Langmuir films of binary mixtures of the following liquid crystal materials: 4-octyl-4′-cyanobiphenyl (8CB) or 4-pentyl-4″-cyano-p-terphenyl (5CT) with 4-(trans-4'-octylcyclohexyl)isothiocyanatobenzene (8CHBT), trans-4-octyl(4′-cyanophenyl)cyclohexane (8PCH) or 4-octyl4′-isothiocyanatobiphenyl (8BT) were investigated. Surface pressure-mean molecular area isotherms were recorded at various mixture compositions. It was found that only liquid crystal materials for which the molecules have a terminal -CN group are able to form a stable monolayer at the air-water interface. Moreover, information about the miscibility or the phase separation of the two components in the mixures was obtained by using the excess area criterion and surface phase rules.  相似文献

The effect of low ionic strength leading to reduced polyelectrolyte–protein interactions has been shown by in silico and in vitro experiments, suggesting polyelectrolyte rigidity increasing at low ionic strength, thus leading to reduced interactions with proteins. This contribution elucidates polyelectrolyte–protein precipitation in the 0–2.6-mS?cm?1 ionic strength regime with polyelectrolyte rigidity determinations, using viscosimetry at these conditions, also considering protein charge distributions, using different proteins. Precipitation yields increased from 5 to 40 % at low ionic strength to up to 90 % at intermediate ionic strength, depending on protein and polyelectrolyte type, using lysozyme and three different monoclonal antibodies. Comparing precipitation behavior of the monoclonal antibodies, a qualitative correlation between required polyelectrolyte flexibility to enhance protein precipitation and protein average charge as well as hydrophobicity of the antibodies was discovered. Antibodies with lower average charge and less hydrophobicity required more flexible polyelectrolytes to enhance precipitation behavior by allowing interaction of the polyelectrolytes with proteins, attaching to positively charged protein patches while “circumnavigating” negatively charged protein areas. In contrast, antibodies with higher protein average charge showed increasing precipitation yields up to 90 % already at lower ionic strength, associated with then more rigid polyelectrolyte structures. Therefore, designing polyelectrolytes with specific chain flexibility could help to improve precipitation behavior toward specific target proteins in polyelectrolyte-driven purification techniques.  相似文献

BDE-209 is the predominant constituent of the commercial mixture decabromodiphenyl ether which is used as brominated flame retardant (BFR). Owing to difficulties associated with the high mass (thermal instability and low vapour pressure), short GC columns (≤15?m) have been suggested for its analysis while longer columns (30–50?m) are suggested for other polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners. To overcome this considerable expenditure in the analysis of PBDEs, we aimed at increasing the sensitivity of BDE-209 analysis by gas chromatography coupled with electron-capture negative ion mass spectrometry (GC/ECNI-MS) on a 30?m column. The chromatographic performance of BDE-209 on the 30?m GC column was improved by increasing the carrier gas flow from initially 1.2?mL?min?1 to 5 or 10?mL?min?1 after the last octabromo diphenyl ether (Br8DE) congener was eluted. With this high carrier gas flow, the column residence time of BDE-209 was shortened by ~25%, the peak height was increased and, consequently, the limit of detection by GC/ECNI-MS in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode was improved. When this high-flow GC/ECNI-MS-SIM method was applied to a sediment sample, we realized that gel permeation chromatography (GPC) – used for the removal of lipids and/or sulphur – provided low recovery rates for BDE-209. The large molecule BDE-209 eluted late and only 50% was recovered by our previous standard protocol for polyhalogenated compounds. Application of a modified GPC procedure with a longer collection time increased the recovery of BDE-209 in the GPC step to ~90%.  相似文献
