A 3D-BPP approach for optimising stowage plans and terminal productivity

This paper addresses the problem of determining stowage plans for containers in a ship, that is the so-called master bay plan problem (MBPP).     

Ethylene polymerization by novel Ziegler–Natta‐type catalysts obtained in situ by the oxidative addition of 8‐hydroxyquinoline‐based ligands to bis(1,5‐cyclooctadiene)nickel(0) and methylaluminoxane

Novel catalytic systems, prepared in situ by the oxidative addition of 8‐hydroxyquinoline ligands to bis(1,5‐cyclooctadiene)nickel(0) and activated by methylaluminoxane, were studied in ethylene polymerization. When 8‐hydroxyquinoline was employed, only oligomeric products were obtained. On the contrary, 5,7‐dinitro‐8‐hydroxyquinoline gave linear polyethylene (PE), but with a modest activity. For the catalyst based on 5‐nitro‐8‐hydroxyquinoline, the productivity was largely dependent on the content of free trimethylaluminum (TMA) present in the commercial aluminoxane. The progressive optimization of the TMA/oligomeric methylaluminoxane ratio increased the productivity, which reached 700 kg of PE/(mol of Ni × h), by an order of magnitude. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 0+ analogue state in 118Sb from 117Sn(p,nγ) reaction

The analogue of the 0⁺ ground state in ¹¹⁸Sn has been observed in the compound nucleus ¹¹⁸Sb through ¹¹⁷Sn(p,n γ) ¹¹⁷Sb reaction. The neutron decays of this analogue resonance have been studied from the deexciting γ-rays of the residual nucleus ¹¹⁷Sb. From off resonance excitation functions, spin assignments have been made to states in ¹¹⁷Sb, on the basis of Hauser-Feshbach formalism. The resonance parameters of the isobaric analogue resonance have been determined, including the total, proton and neutron decay widths.     

Decomposition theorems in orthomodular posets: the problem of uniqueness

We provide some conditions which are equivalent to the uniqueness of Hewitt-Yosida-type decomposition and Lebesgue-type decomposition for real valued additive functions defined on orthomodular posets.

     

Synthesis of cephalosporins carrying isoxazolyl acetamido and related side chains

Starting from 3,5-dimethylisoxazole the carboxylic acids I and V, the amino acids VIII (L-) and IX (D-), and the ureido acids X (L-) and XI (D-) were prepared, which were used for the synthesis of the new cephalosporins XVIIb, XXa-c (L-), and XXIb (D-). Thein vitro antibacterial activity of these semi-synthetic antibiotics was studied. Overview: The Potential of silanes for chromate replacement in metal finishing industries

Trialkoxysilanes (or silanes) have emerged as a very promising alternative for chromates in metal finishing industries. Compared to the conventional chromating processes, the major merits of silane-based surface treatments include: eco-compliance, easy-control processing, comparable corrosion protection of metals as well as paint adhesion to a variety of topcoats. In this overview paper, we report the recent status of silane studies including results of corrosion performance tests, the mechanism of corrosion protection of metals by silanes and the themal stabilities of silane films. We also address the new fields that we are beginning to explore such as nano-structured silane films, “self-healing” silane films, and “super-primers”.     

Lattice-point examples for a question of Erdős

Here we establish a set of eight points in general position in the plane, i.e. no three on a line, no four on a circle, and they determine 7 distinct distances, so that, thei-th distance occursi times,i = 1, 2, , 7. The points are embedded in a triangular net, and the distances are not ordered by size or in any other way. We shall show that some known and unknown examples forn < 8 with the above properties may also be lattice points of a similar net.Research (partially) supported by the Hungarian National Foundation for Scientific Research (OTKA) grant, no. 1808.     

Diels-Alder chemistry on alkene functionalized films

A substrate-independent method has been devised for ring formation at solid surfaces. This entails the aminolysis reaction of allylamine with maleic anhydride pulsed plasma polymer films to yield terminal alkene groups at the surface. Subsequent exposure to 1,3-cyclohexadiene leads to a Diels-Alder type (4 + 2) cycloaddition reaction to give a mixture of endo- and exo-bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-2-ene rings.
