Nation-Teflon bimembrane-supported palladium catalysts for Suzuki coupling reactions

Nation-Teflon bimembrane was used as an efficient support for the preparation and application of heterogeneous palladium catalysts.The supported palladium catalysts exhibit high activity and stability in the Suzuki cross-coupling of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids to afford the corresponding biaryls in good to excellent yields,and can be readily recovered and reused several times without significant loss of activity.     

Synthesis and magnetic properties of poly(p‐phthaloyl‐disacetylaceton‐ethylenediimine) metal complexes

Macrocyclic Schiff‐base ligand, bisacetylaceton‐ethylenediimine (BAE) and its transition metal complexes M(BAE) (M = Cu²⁺, Ni²⁺) were synthesized. The complexes having characteristics of aromatic systems and well‐defined one‐dimensional structures, reacted with p‐phthaloyl chloride, to obtain polymer complexes. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, inductively coupled plasma (ICP), FT‐IR, and thermal analysis and show good thermal stability. ESR spectra analysis discovered that there are free radicals in the chain of polymers, indicating that a weak magnetic spin‐exchange interaction operates between the metal ions and free radicals. It is found that, as the bridging p‐phthaloyl group is able to propagate the magnetic exchange interaction, the polymer complexes show paramagnetic properties by measurement of temperature dependence of the magnetic property, and obey Curie–Weiss law. Efficient Continuous Wave-laser emission of Pr3+-doped fluorides at room temperature

We report, to our knowledge for the first time, Continuous Wave (CW) laser emission at room temperature of Pr:LiYF₄ (Pr.YLF) at six wavelengths: 522, 545, 607, 639.5, 720 and 907.4 nm. The pump source was an argon-ion laser tuned to a wavelength of = 457.9 nm. The maximum output powers at 522 nm (³P_i ³H₅) and 639.5 nm (³P₀ ³F₂) were 144 and 266 mW, respectively. We also observed CW laser action of Pr:GdLiF₄ (Pr: GLF) at = 639 nm and of Pr:KYF₄ (Pr: KYF) at = 642.5 nm.     

Cycloaldol approach to the isobenzofuran core of eunicellin diterpenes

[reaction: see text] A novel cycloaldol approach to the isobenzofuran core common to many of the eunicellin diterpenes is described. The cycloaldol precursor was prepared by aldol addition of (S)-(+)-carvone and methacrolein followed by etherification to a glycolate ester. Chemoselective enolization of the glycolate ester led to the cycloaldol adduct in high yield and diastereoselectivity. An oxidative rearrangement-allylic diazene rearrangement sequence established the requisite cis ring fusion.     

Study of occupational health impact of atmospheric pollution on exposed workers at an iron and steel complex by using neutron activation analysis of scalp hair

The occupational health impact of atmospheric pollution on exposed workers at one iron and steel complex was studied by instrumental neutron activation analysis of workers' hair samples and medical examination. The experimental results indicate that there is a positive correlation between the high inhalation amounts of iron and other trace elements by the exposed workers and the symptom of their high blood pressure and hypoglycemia, which implies that the atmospheric environment polluted by iron and steel industry has an adverse health impact on the exposed workers. The measures to relieve and abate the occupational diseases caused by air-borne particulate matter should be taken     

Study on the immobilization of anti-IgG on Au-colloid modified gold electrode via potentiometric immunosensor, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance techniques

The immobilization of anti-IgG on Au-colloid modified gold electrodes has been investigated. A cleaned gold electrode was first immersed in a mercaptoethylamine (AET) solution, and then gold nanoparticles were chemisorbed onto the thiol groups of the mercaptoethylamine. Finally, anti-IgG was adsorbed onto the surface of the gold nanoparticles. Potentiometric immunosensor, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance techniques were used to investigate the immobilization of anti-IgG on Au colloids. In the impedance spectroscopic study, an obvious difference of the electron transfer resistance between the Au-colloid modified electrode and the bare gold electrode was observed. The cyclic voltammogram tends to be more irreversible with increased anti-IgG concentration. Using the potentiometric immunosensor, the proposed technique is based on that the specific agglutination of antibody-coated gold nanoparticles, averaging 16 nm in diameter, in the presence of the corresponding antigen causes a potential change that is monitored by a potentiometry. It is found that the developed immunoagglutination assay system is sensitive to the concentration of IgG antigen as low as 12 ng mL(-1). Experimental results showed that the developed technique is in satisfactory agreement with the ELISA method, and that gold nanoparticles can be used as a biocompatible matrix for antibody or antigen immobilization.     

Detection of metalloproteins in human liver cytosol by synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence combined with gel filtration chromatography and isoelectric focusing separation

Synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SRXRF) spectroscopy is an advanced method of quantitative multielemental analysis with space resolution of several microm and sensitivities in the microg g(-1) range. It can be used for keeping track of trace elements after an electrophoretic separation of biological samples. In this paper, proteins in human liver cytosol were separated with gel filtration chromatography and thin layer isoelectric focusing (IEF). The contents of metal ions in protein bands were determined by SRXRF. The results showed that in the molecular weight (MW) range of 10 approximately 25 kDa, there were at least 2 Zn-containing bands with isoelectric point (pI) of 5 approximately 6 and 6.2 approximately 7, respectively and about 11 Fe-containing proteins with pI of 4.4, 4.6, 4.8, 5.0, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5, 5.6, 6.6, 6.8, and 7.2, respectively, present in human liver cytosol. The Zn-containing band with pI of 5-6 is the dominant species of zinc in this MW range. In addition, the Cu-containing bands with pI of 5.0 and below 4.8 were also detected. It is demonstrated that the procedure could be widely used in further investigations of the chemical species of trace elements in biological samples.
