Quantum graph of Sierpinski gasket type: Computational experiment

A continuous model of the Sierpinski gasket (SG) is suggested. The Laplace operator on the SG is defined. An effective computational algorithm for solving the scattering problem is suggested. The self-similarity of the graph of transmission coefficient via the wave number k is observed. A violation of symmetry of the SG is considered. The results are compared with the discrete SG model. Polarization dynamics of longitudinally monomode bipolarized microchip solid-state lasers

This paper is devoted to the polarization dynamics of a longitudinally monomode bipolarized Nd:YAG laser: the low-frequency polarization dynamics of a microchip laser is studied experimentally and theoretically. The intensities and the relaxation oscillation spectrum of orthogonally polarized modes versus the direction of pump polarization is observed. A phase-sensitive model of a longitudinally monomode bipolarized solid-state laser with linear polarized diode laser pump is developed to account for the experimental observations.     

Mappings of Domains in Rn and Their Metric Tensors

We consider quasi-isometric mappings of domains in multidimensional Euclidean spaces. We establish that a mapping depends continuously in the sense of the topology of Sobolev classes on its metric tensor to within isometry of the space. In the space of metric tensors we take the topology determined by means of almost everywhere convergence. We show that if the metric tensor of a mapping is continuous then the length of the image of a rectifiable curve is determined by the same formula as in the case of mappings with continuous derivatives. (Continuity of the metric tensor of a mapping does not imply continuity of its derivatives.)     

Modification of silica gels with small admixtures of titanium ions

Microporous silica gels containing small amounts of titanium ions are synthesized. Addition of Ti ions to the silica gels during the sol-forming step is demonstrated to increase the specific surface area and decrease the volume of sorptive pores. Spectral results indicate that Ti ions uniformly distribute in the silica gel matrix and isomorphously replace Si.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 10, pp. 2217–2222, October, 1991.     

Solution bundle for a class of impulsive differential inclusions on Banach spaces

In this paper a class of impulsive differential inclusions is investigated. The existence of solution bundle is proved. And we also construct a nonlinear semigroup of operators on cb(E) (closed-bounded subset of E) to describe the set of attainable states.     

On the theory of isentropic solutions of quasilinear conservation laws

This paper studies isentropic solutions of quasilinear first-order equations with two independent variables and a flux function that is only continuous. The isentropic solutions are characterized by the requirement that the S. N. Kruzhkov entropy conditions hold for these solution with the equality sign. It turns out that the existence of a nonconstant isentropic solution imposes rather strong restrictions on the nonlinearity. In particular, it is shown that on the minimal interval containing the essential image of the isentropic solution, the flux function satisfies the local Lipschitz condition, and its generalized derivative is a function of locally bounded variation. Some results on controllability of a nonlinear degenerate parabolic system by bilinear control

In this paper, we discuss the controllability of a nonlinear degenerate parabolic system with bilinear control. Based on the shrinking property of the solutions, we prove that the system is not globally approximately controllable. Furthermore, we give an approximate null controllability result. We also prove that the system is not globally exactly null controllable by a comparison principle.     

Shadowing with multidimensional time in Banach spaces

We study linear dynamical systems with multidimensional time in Banach spaces. Using Taylor functional calculus we prove that under additional assumptions hyperbolic systems have shadowing property.
