Infrared and Raman spectra of cyclo octasulphur oxide (S8O)

The infrared spectrum (200–4000 cm^?1) and the laser Raman spectrum (10–1400 cm^?1) of S₈O are reported. The observed bands are compared with those of S₈ and SOCl₂ and a tentative assignment is given in accordance with the molecular symmetry C₈.     

Radiation Properties of Systems of Three and Four Continuously Pumped Atoms

Radiation properties of three and four atoms continuously pumped by an incoherent excitation mechanism are investigated by using Lehmberg's master equation and the quantum fluctuation-regression theorem. For proper configurations we found in comparison with independent atoms simultaneously (i) an enlargement of the radiation rate, (ii) a spectral narrowing and (iii) a reduction of intensity fluctuations.

The method of “many-centers-quantization” developed in a foregoing paper [1] is used to solve the decay problem of two atoms with various initial states. Especially the angular distributions and angular correlations are given.

Derivation of a Continuous Set of Conservation Laws for the Modified Korteweg-de Vries Equation by Noether's Theorem A method developed recently to derive a continuous set of conservation laws from extended Bäcklund transformations by means of Noether's theorem is applied to the modified Korteweg-de Vries (m. KdV) equation that describes Alfvén waves in a plasma. The corresponding conserved currents are equivalent to those found by WADATI , SANUKI and KONNO . It is shown that the extended Bäcklund transformation B?_α for the m. KdV equation, which coincides with that for the sine-Gordon equation, by MIURA'S transformation becomes the extended Bäcklund transformation β_x for the Korteweg-de Vries equation where x = 1/2α.
