Influence of Hydrogen Bond on Thermal and Phase Transitions of Binary Complex Liquid Crystals

A novel supramolecular liquid crystal (LC) is synthesized from the binary complex of 4-decyloxy benzoic acid and cholesteryl acetate. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic study confirms the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bond between the mesogens. Various mesophases and corresponding textural changes in the complex are observed by comparing with its constituents through polarizing optical microscopic (POM) studies. The thermal stability factor of smectic phase for present complex is calculated. An interesting observation of present work is that investigation of extended thermal span of mesomorphic phases, decreased enthalpy, a nematic phase with a high clearing point and a low melting point. This is due to an arrangement of molecular reorientations and the development of new associations by hydrogen bonding. Optical tilt angle for smectic C phase is determined and the same is fitted to a power law.     

A Facile Synthesis of 7,8-DI Aryl Coumarino and Flavano Benzo-Thiophenes

The key step for the synthesis of 7-hydroxy 2,3-diarylsubstituted benzothiophenes 5a-f , by starting from substituted 2-aryl-2-((2-methoxy phenyl)thio)acetophenones 3a-f as an intermediate, consists of a Friedel-Crafts cyclization followed by demethylation by Lewis acids like BF 3 OEt 2 and AlCl 3 in DCM.     

Solvent-Free Conversion of N,N-Dimethylhydrazones to Nitriles Under Microwave Irradiation

A variety of aldehyde N,N-dimethylhydrazones are rapidly converted into the corresponding nitriles using oxone supported on wet Al₂O₃ under microwave irradiation in dry media.     

Green synthesis of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives catalyzed by heteropoly acid supported montmorillonite K-10 clay

Herein, synthesis of a series of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives directly by one-pot multi-component reaction of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds (1,3-indanedione/1,3-cyclohexanedione), 2-aminoantharacene/2-naphthylamine and various substituted aldehydes under solvent-free conditions using heteropoly-11-molybdo-1-vanadophosphoric acid supported on montmorillonite K-10 clay catalyst (10% PVMoK-10) is reported. The successful formation of naphtho[2,3-f]quinolin-13-one and naphtho[2,3-a]acridin-1(2H)-one derivatives was confirmed by various spectroscopic techniques. This study offers a green approach for the synthesis of novel quinolinone derivatives.     

Octahedral Tin(IV) Complexes of the Chalcogen‐Centered Ligands [EC(PPh2S)2]2– (E = S,Se)

The metathetical reactions between SnBr₄ and Li₂[E'C(PPh₂E)₂] in toluene produce the homoleptic tin(IV) complexes Sn[E′C(PPh₂E)₂]₂ [E = E′ = S ( 1b ); E = S, E′ = Se ( 1c )], which were isolated as red crystals and structurally characterized by X‐ray crystallography. The metrical parameters of these octahedral complexes are compared with those of the all‐selenium analog Sn[E′C(PPh₂E)₂]₂ (E = E′ = Se, 1a ), which was prepared previously by a different route.     

In Vitro and In Silico Screening and Characterization of Antimicrobial Napin Bioactive Protein in Brassica juncea and Moringa oleifera

The study aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of Mustard (Brassica juncea) and Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf extracts and coagulant protein for their potential application in water treatment. Bacterial cell aggregation and growth kinetics studies were employed for thirteen bacterial strains with different concentrations of leaf extracts and coagulant protein. Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MOS) and coagulant protein showed cell aggregation against ten bacterial strains, whereas leaf extract alone showed growth inhibition of five bacterial strains for up to 6 h and five bacterial strains for up to 3 h. Brassica juncea leaf extract (BJS) showed growth inhibition for up to 6 h, and three bacterial strains showed inhibition for up to 3 h. The highest inhibition concentration with 2.5 mg/mL was 19 mm, and furthermore, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (0.5 mg/mL) and MBC (1.5 mg/mL) were determined to have a higher antibacterial effect for <3 KDa peptides. Based on LCMS analysis, napin was identified in both MOS and BJS; furthermore, the mode of action of napin peptide was determined on lipoprotein X complex (LpxC) and four-chained structured binding protein of bacterial type II topoisomerase (4PLB). The docking analysis has exhibited moderate to potent inhibition with a range of dock score −912.9 Kcal/mol. Thus, it possesses antibacterial-coagulant potential bioactive peptides present in the Moringa oleifera purified protein (MOP) and Brassica juncea purified protein (BJP) that could act as an effective antimicrobial agent to replace currently available antibiotics. The result implies that MOP and Brassica juncea purified coagulant (BJP) proteins may perform a wide degree of antibacterial functions against different pathogens.
