Synthesis of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides as possible antiinflammatory agents

A series of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazids were prepared as possible antiinflammatory agents. Their antiproteolytic activity was reported.     

Studies in spiroheterocycles. Part V. Synthesis of new fluorinated spiro[3H-indole-3,2′-oxiran]-2(1H)-ones

Reinvestigation of the reaction of 3-aroylmethyleneindol-2-ones with hydrogen peroxide has revealed that a 1:1 isomeric mixture of spiro[3H-indole-3,2′-oxiran]-2(1H)-ones is formed. The structures of the two isomers have been confirmed by their ir, pmr and mass spectral studies. Mass fragmentation patterns of these compounds are discussed.     

Reduced inorganic phosphorus in the natural environment: significance, speciation and determination

It is commonly assumed that phosphorus occurs almost exclusively in the environment as fully oxidized phosphate (primarily H₂PO₄⁻ and HPO₄²⁻, where the oxidation state of phosphorus is +V). Recent developments in the field of microbiology and research on the origin of life have suggested a possibly significant role for reduced, inorganic forms of phosphorus in bacterial metabolism and as evolutionary precursors of biological phosphate compounds. Reduced inorganic forms of phosphorus include phosphorus acid (H₃PO₃, P(+III)), hypophosphorus acid (H₃PO₂, P(+I)) and various forms of phosphides (P(−III)). Reduced phosphorus has been detected in anaerobic sediments, sewage treatment facilities and in industrial and agricultural processes.Microbiological evidence suggests a significant role for reduced phosphorus species in metabolic processes and raises interesting questions regarding the biogeochemistry of this nutrient in the environment. However, the paucity of data on the presence and cycling of reduced phosphorus compounds in the environment requires attention in order to elucidate the role of these compounds in natural systems. This paper discusses the significance of reduced phosphorus in the natural environment, its speciation and methods of detection.     

Zirconyl chloride promoted highly efficient solid phase synthesis of amide derivatives

An efficient solid phase route for the synthesis of amide derivatives by the reaction of carboxylic acids with urea in the presence of catalytic amount of zirconyl chloride under microwave irradiation conditions was described.In this way,a range of interesting amide derivatives was obtained in good to excellent yields.The catalyst was recycled with fresh reactants and it gave almost similar results without significant loss of activity up to the third run.     

Mild oxidation of alcohols with o-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) in water/acetone mixture in the presence of beta-cyclodextrin

A mild and efficient oxidation of alcohols with o-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) catalyzed by beta-cyclodextrin in a water/acetone mixture (86:14) has been developed. A series of alcohols were oxidized at room temperature in excellent yields.     

A new spot test for cerium(IV)

Summary A new colour reaction for the detection of cerram(IV) which can be carried out both in a test tube and on a spot plate has been described. The test solution is treated with methylene blue in nitric acid solution (11) to form a rose-red colour. This simple procedure has an advantage over the existing tests in that it is applicable in the presence of oxidising agents like chromium(VI), vanadium(V), nitrate, perchlorate and of coloured ions like copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), chromium(III), iron(III), vanadium(IV), uranium(VI).

Zusammenfassung Eine neue, sowohl in der Eprouvette wie auf der Tüpfelplatte ausführbare Farbreaktion zum Nachweis von Cer(IV) wurde angegeben. Die Probelösung wird mit salpetersaurer Methylenblaulösung behandelt und gibt eine rosarote Färbung. Die Reaktion hat gegenüber bekannten Tests den Vorteil, in Gegenwart von Oxydationsmitteln wie Cr(VI), V(V), NO₃ ^–, ClO₄ ^– bzw. in Anwesenheit gefärbter Ionen wie Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cr(III), Fe(III), V(IV) oder U(VI) anwendbar zu sein.

     

A novel and simple route for the synthesis of 3,4‐disubstituted pyrroles

A new class of 3,4‐disubstituted pyrroles has been prepared by the reaction of 1‐aroyl‐2‐arylsul‐fonylethenes and 1,2‐diarylsulfonylethenes with tosyl methyl isocyanide.     

Asymmetric synthesis of 2,3-dihydrofurans and of unsaturated bicyclic tetrahydrofurans through alpha-elimination and migratory cyclization of silyloxy alkenyl aminosulfoxonium salts. Generation and intramolecular O,Si-bond insertion of chiral disubstituted beta-silyloxy alkylidene carbenes

Treatment of the bis(allylsulfoximine)titanium complexes derived from the beta-methyl-substituted acyclic allylic sulfoximines 13a and 13b with aldehydes gave with high selectivities the corresponding sulfoximine-substituted homoallylic alcohols which were isolated as the silyl ethers 15a-h. Methylation of sulfoximines 15a-h afforded the aminosulfoxonium salts 5a-h which upon treatment with LiN(H)tBu gave in high yields the enantio- and diastereomerically pure silyl-substituted 2,3-dihydrofurans 4a-h. Treatment of the titanium complexes derived from the cyclic allylic sulfoximines 17a, 17b, and ent-17c with p-MeOC(6)H(4)CHO delivered with high selectivities the corresponding sulfoximine-substituted cyclic homoallylic alcohols which were isolated as the silyl ethers 18a, 18b, and ent-18c, respectively. Methylation of sulfoximines 18a, 18b, and ent-18c furnished the aminosulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c, respectively, whose treatment with LiN(H)t-Bu gave the enantio- and diastereomerically pure fused bicyclic 2,3-dihydrofurans 6a, 6b, and ent-6c, respectively, in good yields. It is proposed that the 1-alkenyl aminosulfoxonium salts 5a-h, 8a, 8b, and ent-8c react with the base under alpha-elimination and formation of the acyclic and cyclic beta-silyloxy alkylidene carbenes 2a-h, 7a, 7b, and ent-7c, respectively, which then undergo a 1,5-O,Si-bond insertion and 1,2-silyl migration. The cyclic aminosulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c upon treatment with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-7-undecene did not undergo an alpha-elimination but suffered a novel migratory cyclization with formation of the enantio- and diastereomerically pure bicyclic tetrahydrofurans 9a, 9b, and ent-9c, respectively. It is proposed that the 1-alkenyl sulfoxonium salts 8a, 8b, and ent-8c are isomerized to the allylic aminosulfoxonium salts 10a, 10b, and ent-10c, respectively, which then suffer an intramolecular substitution of the (dimethylamino)sulfoxonium group by the silyloxy group followed by a desilylation. The syntheses of the 2,3-dihydrofurans 4a-h, 6a, and 6b and of the tetrahydrofurans 9a and 9b are accompanied by the formation of sulfinamide 16 of >or=98% ee, which can be converted via sulfoxide 28 of >or=98% to the starting sulfoximine 11 of >or=98% ee.     

13C NMR/DFT/GIAO studies of phenylene bis(1,3-dioxolanium) dications and 2,4,6-triphenylene tris(1,3-dioxolanium) trication

The o-, m-, and p-phenylene bis(1,3-dioxolanium) dications (4-6) and 2,4,6-triphenylene tris(1,3-dioxolanium) trication (7) have been prepared by the ionization of the corresponding 2-methoxyethyl benzoates in FSO(3)H or CF(3)SO(3)H at 40 and 60 degrees C, respectively. The charge delocalization in these carbocations was probed by (13)C NMR chemical shifts and substantiated by GIAO/DFT calculations. Relatively less charge is delocalized into the aromatic ring of the carbotrication 7. The rotational barrier around the C(+)-Ar bond for carbodications 4 and 5 was also estimated to be 8-10 kcal/mol.     

Sc(OTf)3-catalyzed alkylation of indoles with propargyl alcohols: an expeditious synthesis of 3-substituted indoles

Indoles undergo smooth alkylation with propargylic alcohols in the presence of 10 mol % of scandium triflate under mild conditions to produce 3-propargylated indoles in excellent yields with high selectivity.
