The crystal structure of BaZr(PO4)2 at 298 K was determined from conventional X-ray powder diffraction data using direct methods, and it was further refined by the Rietveld method. The structure was monoclinic (space group C2/m, Z=2) with , , , β=93.086(1)° and . Final reliability indices were Rwp=8.21%, Rp=5.64% and RB=2.92%. The atom arrangement is similar to that of yavapaiite (KFe(SO4)2), however, these crystal structures differ distinctly in the coordination numbers of barium and potassium atoms; the former is tenfold coordinated, whereas the latter is sixfold coordinated. The powder specimens were also examined by high-temperature XRD and DTA to reveal the occurrence of a phase transition from monoclinic to orthorhombic at 732 K during heating. Upon cooling the reverse transition occurred at 710 K. The monoclinic crystal expanded almost one-dimensionally along [503] during the heating process. The orthorhombic phase also showed a tendency to expand one-dimensionally along the c-axis above 732 K.  相似文献

Outbreaks of them have accelerated significant destruction on coral reefs, but its precise mechanism is poorly understood. Charge-transfer salts of branched-alkyl biferrocenes, (1',1' '-R2-1,1' '-biferrocene)[Ni(mnt)2] (1a, R = isopropyl; 2a, R = dineopentyl) and (1',1' '-R2-1,1' '-biferrocene)2[Co(mnt)2]2 (1b, R = isopropyl; 2b, R = dineopentyl), were prepared. Their valence states were investigated using X-ray crystallography and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. Complexes 1a and 1b show segregated-stack crystal structures that contain columns of acceptors, whereas structures of 2a and 2b, which contain bulky donors, are rather discrete. All of the complexes contain mixed-valent biferrocenium monocations. A two-step valence transition was found in complex 1a. The crystal contains two crystallographically independent cations: one undergoes valence localization below room temperature; the other undergoes valence localization below ca. 130 K. The former transition is derived from asymmetry of the crystal environment around the cation, whereas the latter one is caused by symmetry lowering coupled with a spin-Peierls transition (T(C) = 133.2 K) associated with the dimerization of the acceptors. This compound was found to exhibit a dielectric response based on valence tautomerization. Other complexes (1b, 2a, and 2b) show a valence-trapped state. In all complexes, charge localization was found to occur through local electrostatic interactions between the donor's cationic moiety and the acceptor's electronegative moieties.  相似文献

The magnetic properties and crystalline structure of Co alloy film deposited on a regularly corrugated substrate have been studied. Microscopic grooves are lithographically fabricated on InP substrates. In-plane anisotropy energy is 4–5×104J/m3. Migration of Li+ ions via the vacancy mechanism in LiX (X = F, Cl, Br, and I) with the rocksalt and hypothetical zinc blende structures and Li2X (X = O, S, Se, and Te) with the antifluorite structure has been investigated using first-principles projector augmented wave calculations with the generalized gradient approximation. The migration paths and energies, determined by the nudged-elastic-band method, are discussed on the basis of two idealized models: the rigid-sphere and charged-sphere models. The trajectories and energy profiles of the migration in these lithium compounds vary between these two models, depending on the anion species and crystal structure. The migration energies in LiX with both the rocksalt and hypothetical zinc blende structures show a tendency to decrease with increasing periodic number of the anion species in the periodic table. This is consistent with the widely accepted view that anion species with large ionic radii and high polarizabilities are favorable for good ionic conduction. In contrast, Li2O exhibits the lowest migration energy among Li2X compounds, although O is the smallest among the chalcogens, indicating that electrostatic attractive interactions play the dominant role in the inter-ion interactions in Li2O and, therefore, in the ion migration.  相似文献

We demonstrate local manipulation and detection of nuclear spin coherence in semiconductor quantum wells by an optical pump-probe technique combined with pulse rf NMR. The Larmor precession of photoexcited electron spins is monitored by time-resolved Kerr rotation (TRKR) as a measure of nuclear magnetic field. Under the irradiation of resonant pulsed rf magnetic fields, Rabi oscillations of nuclear spins are traced by TRKR signals. The intrinsic coherence time evaluated by a spin-echo technique reveals the dependence on the orientation of the magnetic field with respect to the crystalline axis as expected by the nearest neighbor dipole-dipole interaction.  相似文献

Background

Results of the Women's Health Initiative Memory Study (WHIMS) raised concerns regarding the timing and formulation of hormone interventions. Conjugated equine estrogens (CEE), used as the estrogen therapy in the WHIMS trial, is a complex formulation containing multiple estrogens, including several not secreted by human ovaries, as well as other biologically active steroids. Although the full spectrum of estrogenic components present in CEE has not yet been resolved, 10 estrogens have been identified. In the present study, we sought to determine which estrogenic components, at concentrations commensurate with their plasma levels achieved following a single oral dose of 0.625 mg CEE (the dose used in the WHIMS trial) in women, are neuroprotective and whether combinations of those neuroprotective estrogens provide added benefit. Further, we sought, through computer-aided modeling analyses, to investigate the potential correlation of the molecular mechanisms that conferred estrogen neuroprotection with estrogen interactions with the estrogen receptor (ER).

Results

Cultured basal forebrain neurons were exposed to either β-amyloid25–35 or excitotoxic glutamate with or without pretreatment with estrogens followed by neuroprotection analyses. Three indicators of neuroprotection that rely on different aspects of neuronal damage and viability, LDH release, intracellular ATP level and MTT formazan formation, were used to assess neuroprotective efficacy. Results of these analyses indicate that the estrogens, 17α-estradiol, 17β-estradiol, equilin, 17α-dihydroequilin, equilinen, 17α-dihydroequilenin, 17β-dihydroequilenin, and Δ8,9-dehydroestrone were each significantly neuroprotective in reducing neuronal plasma membrane damage induced by glutamate excitotoxicity. Of these estrogens, 17β-estradiol and Δ8,9-dehydroestrone were effective in protecting neurons against β-amyloid25–35-induced intracellular ATP decline. Coadministration of two out of three neuroprotective estrogens, 17β-estradiol, equilin and Δ8,9-dehydroestrone, exerted greater neuroprotective efficacy than individual estrogens. Computer-aided analyses to determine structure/function relationships between the estrogenic structures and their neuroprotective activity revealed that the predicted intermolecular interactions of estrogen analogues with ER correlate to their overall neuroprotective efficacy.

Conclusion

The present study provides the first documentation of the neuroprotective profile of individual estrogens contained within the complex formulation of CEE at concentrations commensurate with their plasma levels achieved after an oral administration of 0.625 mg CEE in women. Our analyses demonstrate that select estrogens within the complex formulation of CEE contribute to its neuroprotective efficacy. Moreover, our data predict that the magnitude of neuroprotection induced by individual estrogens at relatively low concentrations may be clinically undetectable and ineffective, whereas, a combination of select neuroprotective estrogens could provide an increased and clinically meaningful efficacy. More importantly, these data suggest a strategy for determining neurological efficacy and rational design and development of a composition of estrogen therapy to alleviate climacteric symptoms, promote neurological health, and prevent age-related neurodegeneration, such as AD, in postmenopausal women.  相似文献
