Solvent extraction behaviour of iodine and bromine in aqueous-organic systems,analogy with radioactive decay

The extraction of iodine and bromine under various conditions from their saturated aqueous solutions by CCl₄, C₆H₆ and o-xylene has been studied. The data obtained from the experiments carried out at various temperatures, for H₂O(I₂)−CCl₄ and H₂O(I₂)−C₆H₆ systems, exhibit an Arrhenius behaviour. The overall activation energy calculated for the extraction in the H₂O(I₂)−CCl₄ system, 650±50 cal·mol⁻¹ is lower than that of H₂O(I₂)−C₆H₆, 3600±300 cal·mol⁻¹. The use of the solubility parameter for the interpretation of the data in the extraction of iodine is investigated. The data obtained in multiple extractions are treated by using the analogy between extraction and radioactive decay. The half number of extraction for each system is determined. The complex curves obtained in the H₂O(I₂)−CCl₄ and H₂O(I₂) −Br₂)−CCl₄ systems are resolved into two components.     

An infrared and Raman spectroscopic study of the Hofmann-type complexes and clathrates: M(piperidine)2Ni(CN)4; M(piperidine)2Ni(CN)4·1.5G (M=Cd, Co, Ni or Cu; G=benzene)

New Hofmann-type complexes and clathrates of the forms M(piperidine)₂Ni(CN)₄ and M(piperidine)₂Ni(CN)₄·1.5G (M=Cd, Co, Ni or Cu; G=benzene) were prepared in powder form and their infrared and Raman spectra are reported. The spectral features suggest that these compounds are similar in structure to the Hofmann-type clathrates except for the copper compounds. The complex and clathrate of Cu have different spectral features in comparison with its analogues due to the Jahn-Teller effect.     

高质量AlPO4-5分子筛单晶的螯合剂法合成与表征

考察了几种螯合剂对AlPO4-5分子筛单晶合成的影响，结果表明，用邻苯二酚，乙酰丙酮，水杨醛为螯合剂可以得到高质量的，尺寸较大的分子筛单晶，其作用机理可能与它们加入到分子筛合成体系中，改变了溶胶中铝的配位数或产生了铝的螯合物有关。     

S-(2-Pyrimidinyl)- and S-(2-(4,6-dimethylpyrimidinyl))-1,1,3,3-tetramethylthiouronium hexafluorophosphates: novel reagents for in situ peptide coupling

Two new reagents for in situ peptide coupling based on the 2-mercaptopyrimidine core have been developed. The readily prepared thiouronium salts were found to promote both peptide and segment coupling efficiently with low racemization/epimerization levels.     

Three (E)‐2‐[(bromo­phen­yl)imino­meth­yl]‐4‐methoxy­phenols

The title compounds, (E)‐2‐[(2‐bromo­phenyl)imino­methyl]‐4‐methoxy­phenol, C₁₄H₁₂BrNO₂, (I), (E)‐2‐[(3‐bromo­phenyl)­imino­methyl]‐4‐methoxy­phenol, C₁₄H₁₂BrNO₂, (II), and (E)‐2‐[(4‐bromo­phenyl)imino­methyl]‐4‐methoxy­phenol, C₁₄H₁₂BrNO₂, (III), adopt the phenol–imine tautomeric form. In all three structures, there are strong intra­molecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds. Compound (I) has strong inter­molecular hydrogen bonds, while compound (III) has weak inter­molecular hydrogen bonds. In addition to these inter­molecular inter­actions, C—H⋯π inter­actions in (I) and (III), and π–π inter­actions in (I), play roles in the crystal packing. The dihedral angles between the aromatic rings are 15.34 (12), 6.1 (3) and 39.2 (14)° for (I), (II) and (III), respectively.     

Thermal behavior and network structure of poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone‐crotonic acid) hydrogels prepared by radiation‐induced polymerization

Poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone‐crotonic acid) [P(VP/CrA)] hydrogels were prepared by irradiating the ternary mixture of VP/CrA and crosslinking agent ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in water by γ rays at ambient temperature. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis were performed to evaluate the thermal properties of ionized networks and to establish if they showed thermal differences that could be related to the CrA content in the gel system. The volume swelling ratio of P(VP/CrA) hydrogels were investigated as a function of the pH in the immersing solution. The volume swelling ratio of these hydrogels increased with an increase in pH and a decrease CrA content in the hydrogel. The volume swelling ratio of the hydrogels was also evaluated using an equation, based on the Flory—Huggins thermodynamic theory, the phantom network theory of James–Guth and Donnan theory of swelling of weakly charged ionic gels for determination of the molecular weight between crosslinks and the polymer–solvent interaction parameter (χ). The first bis(orotato–N,O) complex: Synthesis,crystal structure,spectroscopic and thermal characterization of (chaH)2[Cu(HOr–N,O)2(cha)] · 2H2O (cha = cyclohexylamine and HOr = orotate(2−))

The novel bis(cyclohexylaminium) cyclohexylaminebis(orotate–N,O)cuprate(II) dihydrate, (C₆H₁₅N)₂[Cu(C₅H₂N₂O₄)₂(C₆H₁₄N)] · 2H₂O, has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic measurements, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction. The Cu(II) complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/c. The copper atom in the five-coordinated (chaH)₂[Cu(HOr–N,O)₂(cha)] · 2H₂O is chelated by a deprotonated pyrimidine nitrogen atom and carboxylate oxygen atom as a bis(bidentate) ligand and the cyclohexylamine ligand completes the square-pyramidal coordination. The thermal decomposition of the complex has been predicted by the help of thermal analysis (TG, DTG and DTA).     

Phenolic compounds from the aerial parts of Clematis viticella L. and their in vitro anti-inflammatory activities*

Phytochemical investigations on the EtOH extract of Clematis viticella led to the isolation of six flavonoid glycosides, isoorientin (1), isoorientin 3′-O-methyl ether (2), quercetin 7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (3), quercetin 3,7-di-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (4), manghaslin (5) and chrysoeriol 7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6), one phenylethanol derivative, hydroxytyrosol (7), along with three phenolic acids, caffeic acid (8), (E)-p-coumaric acid (9) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (10). The structures of the isolates were elucidated on the basis of NMR and HR-MS data. All compounds were isolated from C. viticella for the first time. Compounds 7 and 8 showed significant anti-inflammatory activity at 100 μM by reducing the release of NO in LPS-stimulated macrophages comparable to positive control indomethacin. Compounds 3 and 7 exhibited anti-inflammatory activity through lowering the levels of TNF-α while 1, 3 and 5 decreased the levels of neopterin better than the positive controls.     

A novel synthesis of 14-(hydroxymethylalkyl) derivatives of dibenzoxanthenes and 3,3-dimethyl-4-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)benzo[f]chroman

Several reactions of 2-naphthol with 2-alkyl-2-hydroxymethylaldehydes have been investigated. Novel synthesis of 14-(hydroxymethyl)alkyldibenzo[a,j]xanthenes and 3,3-dimethyl-4-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)benzo[f]chroman has been realized.     

Radiochemical studies of the sorption behavior of strontium and barium

The sorption behavior of strontium and barium on kaolinite, bentonite and chlorite-illite mixed clay was studied by radioanalytical techniques using the batch method.⁹⁰Sr (29.1 y) and¹³³Ba (10.5 y) were used as radiotracers. Characterization of the solid matrices was done by FTIR and XRD spectrometries and specific surface area measurements. Synthetic groundwater was used as the aqueous phase. The variation of the distribution ratioR _d, as a function of metal ion loading was examined. The sorption isotherms were fitted to various isotherm models. The sorption energies were calculated to be in the range of 8–10 kJ/mol suggesting an ion exchange type of sorption mechanism. In detailed experiments, chlorite-illite mixed clay was first presaturated with K⁺, Sr²⁺, Ca²⁺ and Al³⁺ ions, respectively, prior to sorption studies with Ba²⁺ ions. The results of Ca²⁺ pretreated chlorite-illite were very similar to those of natural chlorite-illite, suggesting that the Ba²⁺ ion exchanges primarily with the Ca²⁺ ion on the clay minerals.
