A Study of Drop Size Distribution in Multistage Bubble Extractor

Results obtained in determining experimentally the mean volume-surface drop diameter of the dispersed phase in a multistage bubble extractor are presented.     

Classification of Integrable Divergent N-Component Evolution Systems

We use a symmetry approach to solve the classification problem for integrable N-component evolution systems having the form of conservation laws. We obtain complete lists of both isotropic and anisotropic systems of this type and find auto-Bäcklund transformations with a spectral parameter for all systems.     

Temperature factor effect on the structure of the separated flow within a supersonic gas stream

The effect of the temperature factor, that is, the ratio of the body temperature to the freestream stagnation temperature, on the structure of the separated flow formed in the presence of a concave corner in a supersonic stream is studied. The strong influence of the temperature factor on the separation zone length and the flow-generated aerodynamic characteristics is established. It is shown that for fairly large deflection angles this flow cannot be described by free interaction, or triple deck, theory.     

Two-dimensional micelle formation of polystyrene-poly(vinylpyridine) diblock copolymers on mice surfaces

We have used atomic force microscopy to study the adsorption of PolyStyrene-Poly(VinylPyridine) (PS-PVP) block copolymers from a selective solvent onto atomically smooth mica surfaces. At certain copolymer concentrations, we observe a highly regular array of spherical surface micelles covering macroscopic areas of the substrate surface. Evidence is given for a thin homogeneous layer underneath the micelles which is probably due to adsorption of free copolymer chains and brush formation prior to the formation of the micellar structures. We discuss the quality of the self-assembled structures regarding different types of defects and try to identify means for improving the long range periodicity of the structures.     

Quasielastic nucleon and hyperon production by neutrinos and antineutrinos with energies below 30 GeV

The cross sections of neutrino and antineutrino quasielastic reactions \(vn \to \mu ^ - p,\bar vp \to \mu ^ + n,\bar vp \to \mu ^ + \Lambda\) were studied in the neutrino energy range between 3 and 30 GeV. In comparison withV-A theory axial mass parameters ofM _A =(1.06±0.05±0.14) GeV/c² from neutrino andM _A =(0.71±0.10±0.20) GeV/c² from antineutrino data were found. The total cross-section for the hyperon production process can be described byM _A =1.0 GeV/c².     

Final results on μe-pair production in neutrino interactions in the SKAT freon bubble chamber experiment

We present the final results from the search for μe pairs produced in neutrino interactions using the freon filled bubble chamber SKAT. The rate of μ^? e ⁺ pairs to charged current events above the charm threshold is \(R_{\mu ^ - e^ + } = (4.8 \pm 1.1)10^{ - 3} \) . Assuming charm particle production to be the origin of the positron we calculate \(R_{\Lambda _c^ + } = (6.2 \pm 3.1)10^{ - 2} \) andR _D =(2.8±0.9)10^?2. We observe no considerable μ^? e ^? pair production above the background. In the regionE _v >3 GeV,p _μ,e >1.0 GeV/c andp _μ>p _e we find with a 90% confidence level the limit \(R_{\mu ^ - e^ - }< 1.7 10^{ - 4} \) .     

Structure-Activity Relationship of Insecticidal Steroids. III. Δ4,7-6-Ketosteroids

The toxicity of steroids 1-11 for colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say.) larvae was studied by contact-intestinal treatment. Active insect-growth regulators were found among the studied compounds.     

Chloroaqua Complexes [M3S4(H2O)9?xClx](4?x)+ (M = Mo, W; x = 4, 6, 7) and Their Supramolecular Compounds with Cucur[8]uril

Compounds of trigonal cluster chloroaqua complexes with cucurbit[8]uril were synthesized by slowly evaporating HCl solutions of chalcogenides heterometallic cubane cluster complexes of molybdenum and tungsten with cucurbit[8]uril in air; the complexes were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis: (H₃O)₈[Mo₃S₄(H₂O)_2.5Cl_6.5]₂Cl(PdCl₄)·(C₄₈H₄₈N₃₂O₁₆)· 29H₂O (a = 13.3183(17) Å, b = 13.7104(18) Å, c = 18.225(3) Å; α = 80.263(3)°, β = 77. 958(3)°, γ = 87.149(4)°, V = 3207.4(7) ų, space group P , Z = 1, ρ(calc) = 1.900 g/cm³), (H₃O)₄ [Mo₃S₄(H₂O)₃Cl₆]₂·(C₄₈H₄₈N₃₂O₁₆)₃·68H₂O (a = 21.413(6) Å, c = 49.832(10) Å; γ = 120°, V = 19788(8) ų, space group R , Z = 3, ρ(calc) = 1.695 g/cm³), (H₃O)₆ [Mo₃S₄(H₂O)₃Cl₆]₂Cl₂·(C₄₈H₄₈N₃₂O₁₆)·12H₂O (a = 15.881(2) Å, b = 17.191(2) Å, c = 23.276(4) Å; β = 98.865(15)°, V = 6278.7(15) ų, space group P2₁/c, Z = 2, ρ(calc) = 1.638 g/cm³), [W₃S₄(H₂O)₅Cl₄]₂·(C₄₈H₄₈N₃₂O₁₆)₃·35H₂O (a = 21.038(3) Å; α = 61.20(1)°, V = 6762.0(14) ų, space group R , Z = 1, ρ(calc) = 1.582 g/cm³). Synthesis of platinum-mercury clusters and the molecular structure of Pt4(HgBr)2(μ-CO)4(PPh3)4

New platinum-mercury clusters, Pt₄(HgX)₂(μ-CO)₄(PR₃)₄ (X=Cl, Br, I, CF₃, or CCl₃; R=Ph or Et), were synthesized. The molecular and crystal structure of the Pt₄(HgBr)₂(μ-CO)₄(PPh₃)₄ cluster was established by X-ray structural analysis.     

Synthesis of Alkylcyclophosphanes from Red Phosphorus – molecular structure of i-Pr4P4 by gas electron diffraction

A polyphosphide of the type (NaP)_X 1 was obtained from red phosphorus and sodium in presence of small amounts of naphthalene in 1,2-dimethoxyethane as solvent. 1 reacts with alkyl halides in dependence on the kind of alkyl group with formation of different alkylcyclophosphanes. As definite compounds Me₅P₅ 2 , Et₅P₅ 3 (with not definite constitution), i-Pr₄P₄ 4 and t-Bu₄P₄ 5 could be isolated. 1 was identified by X-ray diffraction, 2 – 5 by means of their ¹H, ¹³C, ³¹P n.m.r. and mass spectra. The molecular structure of 4 was identified by electron diffraction.
