Vesicle formation in a mixture of oleyldimethylamine oxide (OleylDMAO) and sodium oleate (NaOl) was investigated by viscoelastic measurements and cryoscopic transmission electron micrograph (cryo-TEM) observations. The viscoelastic properties changed with increasing mole fraction of NaOl (X
NaOl) from the Maxwell behavior of OleylDMAO solutions (X
NaOl=0) suggesting a transient network of long flexible chains. For X
NaOl=0.2 and 0.4 mixtures, both the shear storage modulus G and the shear loss modulus G showed weak dependences on angular frequency with a relation G>G. From cryo-TEM observations, vesicles coexisted with threadlike micelles in mixtures of X
NaOl=0.2 and 0.3. As X
NaOl increased further (X
NaOl=0.5 and 0.6), threadlike micelles disappeared and the coexistence of vesicles and globular micelles was observed. At X
NaOl=0.5, the viscosity decreased remarkably, which was consistent with the disappearance of threadlike micelles. Abstract— A pyrimidine adduct, 6-4‘-[pyrimidine-2’-one] thymine (PO-T)?, observed in DNA hydrolysates of 254-nm ultraviolet (u.v.) irradiated conidia of Streptomyces coelicolor, increases linearly with u.v. dose up to 2 × 105 ergs/mm2. Yields of thymine dimer (T○) and uracil-thymine dimer (U○) level off at much lower doses. Initial relative rates of formation of these u.v. photoproducts are: 1:1.3:4.8 for PO-T, T○ and U○, respectively. Similar results were obtained with a Streptomyces griseus mutant, PHR-1. An equation is derived to estimate the ratio of the amount of PO-T to the total amount of thymine-derived photoproducts at low (biological) u.v. doses. The observed PO-T fractions compare well with the calculated values. Rapid photolysis of the precursor of PO-T was observed by post-u. v. treatment at 313 nm of conidia of S. coelicolor and of S. griseus PHR-1. The photolysis was much slower at 365 nm and did not occur at all at 405 nm. Pyrimidine dimers were not appreciably affected by post-u. v. treatment at the above wavelengths in these Streptomyces strains. Both of these strains are phenotypically photoreactivation-deficient, and the present results indicate that they do not possess active photoreactivating enzyme. In earlier papers[3,4,5], the pyrimidine adduct found in acid hydrolysates of DNA was loosely referred to as “uracil-thymine adduct (U-T adduct)”. Such terminology is not strictly correct. Abstract An action spectrum was obtained for photoreactivation (PR) of morphological abnormality arising from ultraviolet (UV)-irradiation of sea urchin sperm. The wavelength dependence of PR was measured by the restoration of the formation of normal pluteus larvae after the exposure of fertilized eggs to various fluences of monochromatic PR light (313 to 500 nm). The PR action spectrum showed a maximum around 365 nm and a secondary peak somewhere above 400 nm. High PR activity beyond 400 nm wavelengths may reflect an advantageous or adaptational ability to cope with harmful effects of solar UV radiation. 相似文献

Renewable energy is regarded as a clean energy source but has some problems, one of which is intermittency. To reduce this, the time-delay of hydrogen production by photosynthetic bacteria can be effective. In this study, we qualitatively evaluated the time-delay of hydrogen production by photosynthetic bacteria under various irradiation conditions, and we also quantitatively evaluated it by fitting the experimental data and the hydrogen production model with a genetic algorithm. As a result of model fitting, we found that the relationship between the lengths of the optimized time-delay of hydrogen production by photosynthetic bacteria and the amount of light irradiation is linear. And we also found that the time-delay of hydrogen production by photosynthetic bacteria had an upper limit under low light intensity. Using hard x-ray (HX; hnu=5.95 keV) synchrotron photoemission spectroscopy (PES), we study the intrinsic electronic structure of La(1-x)Sr(x)MnO(3) (LSMO) thin films. Comparison of Mn 2p core-levels with soft x-ray (SX; hnu approximately 1000 eV) PES shows a clear additional well-screened feature only in HX PES. Takeoff-angle dependent data indicate its bulk (> or =20 A) character. The doping and temperature dependence track the ferromagnetism and metallicity of the LSMO series. Cluster model calculations including charge transfer from doping-induced states show good agreement, confirming this picture of bulk properties reflected in Mn 2p core-levels using HX PES. 相似文献

One of the greatest challenges facing the cognitive sciences is to explain what it means to know a language, and how the knowledge of language is acquired. The dominant approach to this challenge within linguistics has been to seek an efficient characterization of the wealth of documented structural properties of language in terms of a compact generative grammar—ideally, the minimal necessary set of innate, universal, exception-less, highly abstract rules that jointly generate all and only the observed phenomena and are common to all human languages. We review developmental, behavioral, and computational evidence that seems to favor an alternative view of language, according to which linguistic structures are generated by a large, open set of constructions of varying degrees of abstraction and complexity, which embody both form and meaning and are acquired through socially situated experience in a given language community, by probabilistic learning algorithms that resemble those at work in other cognitive modalities. 相似文献

Results are presented from studies of the electric and emission parameters of transverse volume discharges in neon-sulfur-hexafluoride-propane mixtures at a total pressure of 3–12 kPa. The spatial characteristics of a transverse volume discharge, the plasma radiation spectra in the 130- to 550-nm wavelength range, the waveforms of the discharge voltage and current, and the yield of carbonic products of propane decomposition are investigated at different pressures and different composition of the Ne-SF6-C6H14 mixture. 相似文献
