On the role of FSI in <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis> → 2<Emphasis Type="Italic">π</Emphasis> decay

Contrary to widespread opinion that the final-state interaction (FSI) enlarges the amplitude 〈2π; I = 0|K ⁰〉, we argue that FSI is not able to increase the absolute value of this amplitude. The text was submitted by the author in English.     

Investigation of radiation resistance of fullerenes under irradiation with fast neutrons

Fullerenes C₆₀ and C₇₀ synthesized by the electric arc method and fractionated (purity grades of 99.99 and 99.90 wt %, respectively) were irradiated in a solid phase in the WWR-M reactor (Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute,” Gatchina, Russia) with the aim of determining the survivability in the range of fast neutron fluences Φ = 4 × 10¹⁵?3 × 10¹⁷ n/cm². The irradiated samples were dissolved in carbon disulfide, and intact fullerenes were extracted. With an increase in the fluence, their weight fraction in the samples S(Φ), a measure of radiation resistance of molecules, decreased, to a first approximation, exponentially: S(Φ) = exp(?Φ/Φ _D ). The estimated characteristic fluences were Φ _D = 2.4 × 10¹⁷ and 4.0 × 10¹⁷ n/cm² for C₆₀ and C₇₀, respectively.     

Round-Trip-Time Nonlinear Dynamics of Electro-Optically-Controlled Solid State Lasers

We show numerically and analytically that the technique using a combination of optoelectronic feedback loops allows one to realize new time scale regimes in solid state lasers. In a self mode-locked laser, the combination of negative and positive feedback enables the realization of nonlinear dynamics similar to the logistic map. In quasi-CW mode, the combination leads to a laser output in the form of a square wave with a period of two cavity-round-trip times. The proposed approach paves the way to a regular pulsation with a period of three or four cavity-round-trip times as well.

The value of ′/ in a theory with extended Higgs sector

The additional source of CP violation appearing in the electroweak theory with three Higgs doublets could contribute considerably to the ratio ′/.     

EPR dating and evolution of the Elbrus volcano

This study is devoted to the reconstruction of the Elbrus volcano evolution by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) dating. The following ages have been obtained for the Elbrus activity cycles: early caldera cycle was apparent between 340 and 250 ka ago and changed into the denudation of volcano. Resumption of volcanic activity (late stage of caldera cycle) resulted in accumulation of thick volcanic rock mass (up to 2 km) took place about 170 ka ago. The end of this stage came 70–60 ka ago soon after the intrusion of subvolcanic bodies 90–70 ka ago. After Late Pleistocene glaciation, volcanic activity resumed several times, however, we have dated with EPR only one eruption which occurred 6.7 ka ago. Comparison with the results of geomorphological,¹⁴C, K?Ar and U-Th sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe dating show that EPR dating of quartz from volcanic rocks may be used for the reconstruction of the Late Neo-Pleistocene and Holocene history of the Elbrus. For older rocks, EPR ages are younger than those obtained with conventional methods. The causes of this disagreement are discussed.     

Homogeneous Hilbert boundary-value problem with countable set of discontinuities and logarithmic singularity of index

We consider the Hilbert boundary-value problem for the upper half-plane with a countable set of discontinuity points of coefficient of the boundary condition and with a two-side curling at infinity of a logarithmic order. We obtain formulas for the general solution to the problem.
