An EPR study of Cu doped diaquabis(nicotinamide)bis(o-sulfobenzimidato-N)-cadmium(II) single crystals

The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of Cu²⁺ doped diaquabis(nicotinamide)bis(o-sulfobenzimidato-N)-cadmium(II) (hereafter, CdNAS) single crystals which were taken at room temperature are discussed. It was found from the analysis of the EPR data that the Cu²⁺ ions substitute for magnetically inequivalent Cd²⁺ ions. Two magnetically inequivalent Cu²⁺sites were observed. The principal values of the g and the hyperfine tensors were determined. The ground state wave functions of the unpaired electron of Cu²⁺ ions in two sites were constructed and type of the distortion was determined.     

Diabetes induces compositional, structural and functional alterations on rat skeletal soleus muscle revealed by FTIR spectroscopy: a comparative study with EDL muscle

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder, characterized by abnormally high blood glucose levels due to decreased secretion or effectiveness in function of insulin. Having a role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, skeletal muscle is affected by the absence of insulin in diabetic conditions. This current study reports the application of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy in the determination of macromolecular alterations in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rat skeletal Soleus (SOL) muscles, which highlight the promise of this technique in medical research. The results revealed that DM induced several alterations in macromolecular content and structure of slow-contracting SOL muscles. In diabetic SOL muscles, a decrease in the content of lipids, proteins and nucleic acids together with an increase in lipid order was observed. The decrease in the level of unsaturation and acyl chain length of lipids demonstrated the increased lipid peroxidation in DM. There were alterations in protein secondary structure in DM with a decrease in α-helix and β-sheet content of proteins, whereas the content of aggregated β-strands increased, which is generally seen when proteins denature. Besides, the integrity of collagen molecules was found to be decreased, demonstrating the alterations in its triple helical structure in diabetic muscles. Furthermore, the same alterations mentioned above were also observed in diabetic fast-contracting Extensor Digitorum Longus (EDL) muscles. However, having a high content of mitochondria and relying on an oxidative pathway, SOL muscle was found to be more affected by DM.

S-, S,S-, S,S,S- Und N,S-Substituierte Dienverbindungen Und Dibutadienylpiperazinverbindungen Von 2-Nitropentachlorbutadien

Nitrodiene compound 1 was stirred with allylthiol for a long time and compound 3 was obtained. Compound 1 gave bis(thio)substituted 2-nitrodiene compound 4 and tris(thio)substituted 2-nitrodiene compound 5 with 2 moles allylthiol in the presence of NaOH in ethanol. Mono(allylthio)substituted diene compound 3 gave dibutadienyl substituted piperazine compounds with piperazine 6 in CH 2 Cl 2 (or diethylether). Compound 3 gave compound 9 with compound 8 . Compounds 11a-e have been obtained from the reaction of compound 3 with compounds 10a-e . Nach langem Rühren von der Verbindung 1 mit Allylthiol entsteht die Verbindung 3 . Die Verbindung 1 liefert mit zwei Mol von Allylthiol in ethanolischer Natronlunge die bis(thio)substituierte 2-Nitrodienverbindung 4 und tris(thio)substituierte Dienverbindung 5 . Mono(allylthio)substituierte Dienverbindung 3 ergibt mit Piperazine in CH 2 Cl 2 (oder in Ether) die dibutadienylsubstituierte Piperazinverbindung 7 . Die Verbindung 3 liefert mit der Verbindung 8 die Verbindung 9 . Durch die Reaktion von der Verbindungen 10a-c wurden die Verbindungen 11a-e erhalten.     

The Synthesis of Sulfinylphthalimides and their Reactions with Some Nucleophiles in Dioxane

Abstract

In this study, some N-(p-substituted-arylsulfinyl)phthalimides (1a–1e) were synthesized. The synthesized compounds were examined with respect to their substitution reactions with sodium ethoxide, sodium methoxide, methylamine, and t-butylamine in dioxane. The substituent effect was investigated at 30.0 ± 0.1 °C. The activation entropy was also studied, and negative ΔS^≠ values were obtained. Configuration inversions were observed in the substitution reactions. This result is in conformity with the S_N2 mechanism.

Mechanical, thermal, and fire retardant properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate) fiber containing zinc phosphinate and organo-modified clay

The effect of zinc bisdiethylphosphinate (ZnPi) and organoclay on mechanical, thermal, and flame retardant properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fiber was investigated. ZnPi was preferred due to its fusible character at spinning temperature and organoclay was used for synergistic interaction. The mechanical, thermal, and flame retardant properties of fibers were examined by tensile testing, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and micro combustion calorimeter (MCC). The tensile strength of the PET fiber reduced with the addition of both ZnPi and organoclay. The TG results showed that the inclusion of ZnPi increased the char residue. The MCC results showed that the addition of organoclay increased the barrier effect of formed char which depends on char amount, thickness, and integrity and reduces the maximum heat evolved during the test. This result was also important in terms of showing that the organoclay was effective in thermally thin samples.     

Inequality constrained ridge regression estimator

We carry out the idea of inequality constrained least squares (ICLS) estimation of Liew (1976) to the inequality constrained ridge regression (ICRR) estimation. We propose ICRR estimator by reducing the primal–dual relation to the fundamental problem of Dantzig and Cottle, 1967, Cottle and Dantzig, 1974 with Lemke (1962) algorithm. Furthermore, we conduct a Monte Carlo experiment.

The soft Giant Monopole Resonance as a probe of the spin-orbit splitting

The isoscalar monopole response is studied in doubly magic ²⁰⁸Pb , ^{100, 132}Sn nuclei using the Skyrme HF+RPA model. A low-energy strength is predicted and corresponds to almost pure single-particle excitations. These pure single-particle excitations allow to analyse the splitting of the corresponding spin-orbit partners. A good agreement with the spin-orbit splitting data is found in the case of ²⁰⁸Pb . The experimental width of the giant monopole resonance may hinder the measurement of the soft monopole mode.     

Flow topology in an L-shaped cavity with lids moving in the same directions

Flow development and eddy structure in an L-shaped cavity with lids moving in the same directions have been investigated using both tools from topological and numerical methods. In particular, structural bifurcation near a nonsimple degenerate point is investigated by making a local analysis of the velocity field based on a Taylor series expansion. The streamlines of a Hamiltonian vector field system are simplified by using the homotopy invariance of the index theory. A series of bifurcation curves are constructed to determine the sequence of flow structures by which eddies are generated in the L-shaped cavity.
