Chiral Bis(oxazoline)-copper Catalyzed Enantioselective Imidation of Sulfides

Prochiral sulfides reacted with Phl=NTs in the presence of a catalytic amount of Cu(I) salt together with a chiral 4,4′-disubstituted bis(oxazoline) ligand to afford the corresponding chiral sulfimides.     

<Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Superscript>1</Superscript>-Classification of Gapped Parent Hamiltonians of Quantum Spin Chains

We consider the C ¹-classification of gapped Hamiltonians introduced in Fannes et al. (Commun Math Phys 144:443–490, 1992) and Nachtergaele (Commun Math Phys 175:565–606, 1996) as parent Hamiltonians of translation invariant finitely correlated states. Within this family, we show that the number of edge modes, which is equal at the left and right edge, is the complete invariant. The construction proves that translation invariance of the ‘bulk’ ground state does not need to be broken to establish C ¹-equivalence, namely that the spin chain does not need to be blocked.     

Retrospect of Se and Te Chemistry

Retrospect of organoselenium and tellurium chemistry for these 30 years is described focusing on our novel findings in this field: (1) telluroxide elimination leading to alkenes and allylic compounds, (2) Pd-catalyzed or –mediated carbodetelluration for a new C–C bond formation, (3) synthesis of chiral diferrocenyl dichalcogenides and their use as chiral auxiliaries, (4) asymmetric selenoxide elimination for making optically active allenes and alkenes, (5) meta chloroperbenzoic acid (MCPBA) oxidation of organic selenides and tellurides leading to a substitution of a PhSe or PhTe moiety, as well as (6) preparation of chalcogen-bridged diruthenium complexes and their catalytic use for propargylic substitution reactions.

Asymmetric synthesis of bicyclo[n.1.0]alkanes by the enantioselective 1,3-CH insertion reaction of chiral magnesium carbenoids

Treatment of enantiomerically pure 1-chlorovinyl p-tolyl sulfoxides, derived from cyclic ketones and (R)-chloromethyl p-tolyl sulfoxide, with the lithium enolate of tert-butyl carboxylates gave adducts in quantitative yields as single diastereomers. The adducts were treated with i-PrMgCl in toluene to afford optically active bicyclo[n.1.0]alkanes bearing a tert-butyl carboxylate moiety in up to 99% enantiomeric excess through the enantioselective 1,3-CH insertion reaction of the generated chiral magnesium carbenoids. This is the first example of the enantioselective 1,3-CH insertion reaction of magnesium carbenoid.     

Polarized electron capture by3He2+ at 20–28 keV

Nuclear polarization was measured by means of beam foil spectroscopy for a³He⁺ ion produced by an electron capture process of a³He²⁺ from a polarized sodium atom in an incident energy range from 20 to 28 keV. Assuming that a polarized electron of a sodium atom is predominantly captured to the 3d orbital of a³He⁺ ion andcascades down to the 1s ground state via the 2p orbital, an alignment factorA ₀ ^col (L=2) for the 3d orbital of a³He⁺ ion was extracted by comparing the observed initial sodium polarization andfinal nuclear polarization. The observedA ₀ ^col (L=2) showed a less pronounced energy dependence andwere qualitatively reproduced by the theoretical calculation.
