Click to detect! Azamacrocyclic complexes with a triazole scorpion ligand may be easily assembled, as shown for a biotin‐functionalised cyclam derivative. Coordination of the triazole to the metal is perturbed by the binding of avidin to the pendant ligand (see scheme). This event can be sensitively detected with EPR and ENDOR spectroscopy, which confirm the loss of the axial triazole nitrogen donor upon avidin binding. This general strategy may have wide applications in imaging and therapeutics.

Determination of the cause of a biliary obstruction is often inconclusive from serum analysis alone without further clinical tests. To this end, serum markers as well as the composition of bile of 74 patients with biliary obstructions were determined to improve the diagnoses. The samples were collected from the patients during an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The concentration of eight bile salts, specifically sodium cholate, sodium glycocholate, sodium taurocholate, sodium glycodeoxycholate, sodium chenodeoxycholate, sodium glycochenodeoxycholate, sodium taurodeoxycholate, and sodium taurochenodeoxycholate as well as bile cholesterol were determined by HPLC-MS. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and bilirubin were measured before the ERCP. The aim was to determine a diagnostic factor and gain insights into the influence of serum bilirubin as well as bile salts on diseases. Ratios of conjugated/unconjugated, primary/secondary, and taurine/glycine conjugated bile salts were determined to facilitate the comparison to literature data. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were determined, and the cut-off values were calculated by determining the point closest to (0,1). It was found that serum bilirubin was a good indicator of the type of biliary obstruction; it was able to differentiate between benign obstructions such as choledocholithiasis (at the concentration of >11 µmol/L) and malignant changes such as pancreatic neoplasms or cholangiocarcinoma (at the concentration of >59 µmol/L). In addition, it was shown that conjugated/unconjugated bile salts confirm the presence of an obstruction. With lower levels of conjugated/unconjugated bile salts the possibility for inflammation and, thus, neoplasms increase.  相似文献

The influence of magnesium doping on the properties of tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride crystals has been described. The reduction in the intensity observed in powder X-ray diffraction of doped specimen and slight shifts in vibrational frequencies confirm the lattice stress as a result of doping. Surface morphological changes due to doping of the alkaline earth metal are observed by scanning electron microscopy. The incorporation of Mg(II) into the crystal lattice was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Lattice parameters are determined by single crystal XRD analysis. The thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis studies reveal the purity of the materials and no decomposition is observed up to the melting point. The crystal is further characterized by Kurtz powder technique and dielectric studies.  相似文献

The ability of 2S albumins from sunflower seeds to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions has been investigated, demonstrating that one of the proteins (SFA8) effectively stabilizes emulsions, while another (SF-LTP) does not stabilize emulsions. The surface tension and surface dilation viscosity of these two proteins were measured, rationalizing the emulsifying ability of SFA8 in terms of its ability to form a strongly elastic monolayer at interfaces. The secondary structure changes that occur upon adsorption of SFA8 to the oil/water interface have also been studied by fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD), and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. It was found that the beta-sheet content of the protein increased upon adsorption at the expense of alpha-helix and random structure. Moreover, FT-IR measurements indicate the presence of intermolecular beta-sheet formation upon adsorption. Fluorescence studies with an oil-soluble fluorescence quencher indicate that the single tryptophan residue present in SFA8 may become located in the oil-phase of the emulsion. This residue is thought to be partially buried in the native protein, and these data suggest that changes in the polypeptide region flanking this residue may play an important role in the molecular rearrangement that occur on or following adsorption to the oil/water interface.  相似文献

The validity of the fractal versions of the FHH and BET theories for describing the adsorption of butane and nitrogen on a variety of partially dehydroxylated silica surfaces has been tested. The fractal dimensions obtained from adsorption data have been compared with those obtained completely independently using SAXS. It was found that the fractal dimensions obtained from butane adsorption isotherms, using both the fractal FHH and fractal BET theories, agreed well with the corresponding values obtained from SAXS over overlapping length scales. However, in general, a systematic deviation between the fractal dimension obtained from nitrogen adsorption and that obtained from SAXS was observed. The fractal dimensions obtained from nitrogen adsorption were consistently larger than those obtained from SAXS, which is the opposite of what has often been found in the literature. It has been suggested that the differences in the suitability of the adsorption theories tested to describe butane and nitrogen adsorption is due to the significant difference between the interaction strengths of these two different molecules with silica surfaces. A modified theory that can account for the discrepancy between the fractal dimensions obtained from nitrogen adsorption and SAXS has been proposed. The implications of the new theory for the accuracy of nitrogen adsorption BET surface areas for silicas are discussed.  相似文献

The penetration of compressed CO(2) in hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon regions of concentrated surfactant mesophases are interpreted from differences in the CO(2)-processed pore expansion of mesoporous silica thin films templated by three surfactants containing varying degrees of hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon functionality. Ordered silica thin films are synthesized for the first time using the 16-carbon (C(16)) partly fluorinated surfactant, 11,11,12,12,13,13,14,14,15,15,16,16,16-tridecafluorocetyl pyridinium bromide (HFCPB), as a templating agent. Silica films templated with surfactants containing a 8-carbon (C(8)) fluorocarbon tail (3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl pyridinium chloride (HFOPC)) and a 16-carbon (C(16)) hydrocarbon tail (cetyl pyridinium bromide (CPB)) and HFCPB (C(16)) are processed in compressed CO(2) (69-172 bar, 25 °C and 45 °C) during synthesis. CO(2) processing results in significant pore expansion for films templated with both fluorinated surfactants, while pore expansion is negligible for the hydrocarbon templated material suggesting that preferential CO(2) penetration occurs in the 'CO(2)-philic' fluorocarbon segments of the surfactant template. The effect of substrate surface energy on the final uniformity of the dip-coated films is studied by varying the substrate from unmodified glass to a fluorocarbon-capped substrate. The ability to create dip-coated thin films on low surface energy substrates through favorable interaction of surfactant template tail with the substrate surface functional groups is demonstrated.  相似文献
