Japanese infants at the ages of 6, 12, and 18 months were tested on their ability to discriminate three nonsense words with different phonotactic status: canonical keetsu, noncanonical but possible keets, and noncanonical and impossible keet. The results showed that 12 and 18 months olds discriminate the keets/keetsu pair, but infants in all age groups fail to discriminate the keets/keet pair. Taken together with the findings in our previous study [Kajikawa et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 120(4), 2278-2284 (2006)], these results suggest that Japanese infants develop the perceptual sensitivity for native phonotactics after 6 months of age, and that this sensitivity is limited to canonical patterns at this early developmental stage. 相似文献

The (2R,5S)-trans- and (2S,5S)-cis-stereoisomers 1a and 1b of 4(5)-(5-aminotetrahydropyran-2-yl)imidazole, which have two chiral centers and adopt a stable chair conformation, were synthesized via cyclization of diol intermediates 7 using L-glutamine as the starting material. Their enantiomers, (2S,5R)-trans-1c and (2R,5R)-cis-1d, were synthesized by the same methodology from D-glutamine. Stereo isomers 1a-d were converted into cyanoguanidines 11a-d, and into N-isopropyl and N-3,3-dimethylbutyl derivatives 12a-d and 13a-d, respectively. The results of in vivo brain microdialysis of the derivatives apparently indicated that only (2S,5R)-isomers increased the release of neuronal histamine. Among the many (2S,5R)-N-alkyl derivatives, 13c (OUP-133) and 18 (OUP-153) increased histamine release to 180-190% and 180-200% of basal levels, respectively, and were found to be novel histamine H(3) antagonists. 相似文献

A microchannel chip has been used to fractionate selected segments from an electrophoretic flow of separated fragments. A sample, which covers the size from 35 to 670 bp, was initially separated using an 8.8-cm-long channel at the electric field strength of 100 V/cm. The target fragment of 318 bp was selected and extracted from the separation channel. High-resolution fractionation was achieved by introducing new procedures for blocking, extraction, and segment transfer. Fractionation quality with and without blocking were compared using a 310 Genetic Analyzer (Applied Biosystems). The results show that no contamination was found in the sample, which was fractionated with blocking; however, a contamination by short segments was found in the sample, which was fractionated without blocking. Furthermore, fractionation by the chip was found to be of higher fidelity than that by the polyacrylamide slab gel, which displayed a small overlapped peak after the target peak. Compared with the traditional method, our chips enable faster and high-fidelity fractionation, thus providing a new tool for bioanalysis and other applications. 相似文献

This study explored sensitivity to word-level phonotactic patterns in English and Japanese monolingual infants. Infants at the ages of 6, 12, and 18 months were tested on their ability to discriminate between test words using a habituation-switch experimental paradigm. All of the test words, neek, neeks, and neekusu, are phonotactically legitimate for English, whereas the first two words are critically noncanonical in Japanese. The language-specific phonotactical congruence influenced infants' performance in discrimination. English-learning infants could discriminate between neek and neeks at the age of 18 months, but Japanese infants could not. There was a similar developmental pattern for infants of both language groups for discrimination of neek and neeks, but Japanese infants showed a different trajectory from English infants for neekusu/neeks. These differences reflect the different status of these word patterns with respect to the phonotactics of both languages, and reveal early sensitivity to subtle phonotactic and language input patterns in each language. 相似文献

Three-phase solvent systems were efficiently utilized for high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) to separate multiple components with a wide range of hydrophobicity. The compositions of three-phase systems were optimized according to their physical parameters such as volume ratio, viscosity and specific gravity of upper (UP), middle (MP) and lower (LP) phases. The three-phase systems composed of n-hexane-methyl acetate-acetonitrile-water (4:4:3:4, v/v/v/v) was selected for HSCCC separation of a mixture of 15 standard compounds with a wide range in hydrophobicity from beta-carotene to tryptophan. The separation was initiated by filling the column with a mixture of MP and LP both as a stationary phase followed by elution with UP to separate the hydrophobic compounds. Then the mobile phase was switched to MP to elute the moderately hydrophobic compounds, and finally the polar compounds still retained in the column were fractionated by eluting the column with LP. The system successfully resolved all 15 compounds in one-step operation in 70 min. 相似文献
