Systems with negative Poisson’s ratios (auxetic) exhibit the unexpected feature of expanding laterally when uniaxially stretched and becoming narrower when compressed. Here, we examine the role of the tetrahedra found in the frameworks of the predicted auxetic zeolites natrolite (NAT), thomsonite (THO) and edingtonite (EDI) for generating negative Poisson’s ratios in an attempt to relate the auxeticity in the (0 0 1) plane to rotations of the tetrahedra in the zeolite framework. The behavior of the tetrahedra is then examined in terms of their 2D projections in the (0 0 1) plane and we show that in the extreme scenario, where the three-dimensional tetrahedra in the zeolite framework are perfectly rigid and simply rotate relative to each other, then their 2D projected behavior in the (0 0 1) plane becomes equivalent to the idealized two-dimensional ‘rotating squares model’ with a Poisson’s ratio of ?1.  相似文献

We give an operator-algebraic interpretation of the notion of an ideal generated by the unbounded operators associated with the elements of the Lie algebra of a Lie group that implements the symmetries of a quantum system. We use this interpretation to establish a link between Rieffel induction and the implementation of a local Gauss law in lattice gauge theories similar to the method discussed by Kijowski and Rudolph (J Math Phys 43:1796–1808, 2002; J Math Phys 46:032303, 2004).  相似文献

The goal of this paper was to develop an in-line immobilized enzyme reactor (IMER) integrated into a capillary electrophoresis platform. In our research, we created the IMER by adsorbing trypsin onto the inner surface of a capillary in a short section. Enzyme immobilization was possible due to the electrostatic attraction between the oppositely charged fused silica capillary surface and trypsin. The reactor was formed by simply injecting and removing trypsin solution from the capillary inlet (~1–2 cms). We investigated the factors affecting the efficiency of the reactor. The main advantages of the proposed method are the fast, cheap, and easy formation of an IMER with in-line protein digestion capability. Human tear samples were used to test the efficiency of the digestion in the microreactor.  相似文献

A detailed dynamic mathematical model that describes the evolution of particle size distributions (PSDs) during emulsion copolymerization reactions in a continuous loop reactor was developed and compared with experimental data. The model is based on the assumption that two distinct particle populations exist: precursor particles and stable latex particles. Precursor particles are colloidally unstable and therefore may undergo coagulation with other precursors and be absorbed by stable latex particles. It is shown that the kinetic model is able to reproduce the rather complex dynamic behavior of the vinyl acetate/Veova10 emulsion copolymerization in a continuous loop reactor, including the development of oscillatory responses of PSDs during reaction start‐up. It is also shown that, for the studied polymerization system, oscillatory responses are obtained only when both particle populations are assumed to exist and when both coagulative and micellar particle nucleations are simultaneously considered.  相似文献

A mathematical model for seeded emulsion polymerization stabilized with polymerizable surfactants (surfmers) was developed. The model accounts for the main features of the process and provides information about surfmer conversion as well as surfmer burying inside the polymer particles. The model was validated by comparing its predictions with the experimental results for the effect of particle size, surface properties of the surfmer, and type of initiator on surfmer conversion. A mathematical model for inverse microemulsion polymerization has been developed. The model has been used to fit experimental results of the effect of initiator concentration, light intensity, emulsifier concentration, and dispersed phase weight fraction on the monomer conversion evolution, particle size, and polymer molecular weight in the inverse microemulsion polymerization of 2-methacryloyl oxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (MADQUAT) initiated by UV light in the presence of AIBN. The polymerization of inverse microemulsions of 2-methacryloyl oxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride stabilized by a blend of nonionic emulsifiers (a sorbitan sesquioleate and a sorbitan monooleate) and initiated by UV light in the presence of Azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) was investigated. The effect of initiator concentration, light intensity, emulsifier concentration, and dispersed phase weight fraction on the polymerization rate (Rp), number of polymer particles (Np), and polymer molecular weight (Mw) was studied.
