The structural (4 x 1) to (8 x 2) transition and the electronic metal to semimetal transition at the In/Si interface are studied with scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Both transitions are gradual, resulting in a complex domain structure in the transition temperature regime. At these intermediate temperatures, the metallic (4 x 1) and semimetallic (8 x 2) domains coexist with each other and with new nanophases. By probing the two intertwined but distinguishable transitions at the atomic level, the interaction between different phases is visualized directly.  相似文献

A new structural phase transition has been observed at low temperature for the one-third of a monolayer (alpha phase) of Pb on Ge(111) using a variable-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. The well-known (sqrt[3] x sqrt[3])R30 degrees to (3 x 3) transition is accompanied by a new structural phase transition from (3 x 3) to a disordered phase at approximately 76 K. The formation of this "glasslike" phase is a consequence of competing interactions on different length scales.  相似文献

We report on the synthesis and photophysical properties of blue emitting iridium(iii) complexes. The use of a negatively charged ligand, such as a triazolyl pyridine, allows a facile preparation, maintaining the high energy emission (blue region) of heteroleptic complexes. We discuss the role played by electron withdrawing substituents of a different nature and also how the substitution position of the same group influences the spectroscopical behaviour.  相似文献

The relationships between the elastic moduli, glass forming ability and response to deformation of bulk metallic glasses are investigated. Five bulk metallic glasses are prepared from high purity elements via suction casting. The results confirm that there exists a correlation between energy absorbed to failure during compression testing and the bulk to shear modulus ratio. This finding is developed such that it corresponds only to the elastic component of energy absorption, and that the bulk modulus dominates this. Plastic deformation appears to be favored by a reduced shear modulus, although it shows greater dependence on structural features that are frozen in during the glass transition, and so may well be dependent on the liquid fragility.  相似文献

Results are reported from a study, the goal of which was the reduction of the nonsize effects that govern the size exclusion chromatography (SEC) of planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on poly(divinylbenzene) (PDVB). Thought to arise from electron-pair donor--electron-pair acceptor (EPD-EPA) interactions between column packing and PAH eluate, nonsize effects could be substantially reduced by the addition of bulky substituents to the PAH, thereby perturbing EPD-EPA interactions between column and eluate. In this work we study the effect of adding a bulky substituent to the column material itself and have selected a sulfonated column material for this purpose. The-SO2OH group provides considerable steric shielding of the PDVB phenyl groups from the PAH eluates and thus its presence could weaken column-eluate interactions, but it is also electron-withdrawing and could possibly aggravate nonsize behavior, because the electron-pair acceptor strength of PDVB could be increased by electron-withdrawing substituents. It was found that either an increase or decrease of EPD-EPA bonding could result with the sulfonated PDVB (S-PDVB) columns, depending on the nature of the mobile phase. Size-dependent elution of PAHs could be obtained with S-PDVB for two classes of PAH by the inclusion of a small amount of hydrogen-bonding solvent, i.e. methanol, to the mobile phase. It is thought that the methanol additive, by strongly hydrogen bonding with the S-PDVB sulfonic acid groups, provides the additional steric shielding necessary to minimize EPD-EPA interactions.  相似文献

This report describes the use of Pd(II)/bis-sulfoxide 1 catalyzed intra- and intermolecular allylic C-H amination reactions to rapidly diversify structures containing a sensitive β-lactam core similar to that found in the monobactam antibiotic Aztreonam. Pharmacologically interesting oxazolidinone, oxazinanone, and linear amine motifs are rapidly installed with predictable and high selectivities under conditions that use limiting amounts of substrate. Additionally, we demonstrate for the first time that intramolecular C-H amination processes may be accelerated using catalytic amounts of a Lewis acid co-catalyst [Cr(III)(salen)Cl 2].  相似文献

Dry, compression molded films of medical grade poly-l-lactide (PLLA) showed a marked reduction in tensile strength and strain after accelerated ageing in aqueous NaOH at 50 °C, accompanied by mass loss, surface erosion, increased hydrophilicity and, in the case of the initially amorphous films, cold crystallization owing to the plasticizing effect of the ageing medium. Addition of well dispersed nanosized hydroxyapatite (nHA) particles resulted in increases in the rate of mass loss during ageing, identified with accelerated degradation at the matrix/particle interfaces. However, the associated decreases in tensile strength and strain to fail with ageing time were far less marked in the presence of the nHA than in the unmodified films. This implied that nHA acts as an effective toughener of the bulk material, consistent with TEM observations of the deformed films, which indicated failure of the particle-matrix interfaces to promote plastic deformation of the PLLA.  相似文献
