This article reports the microstructural characteristics of various petroleum and pitch based nuclear graphites (IG-110, NBG-18, and PCEA) that are of interest to the next generation nuclear plant program. Bright-field transmission electron microscopy imaging was used to identify and understand the different features constituting the microstructure of nuclear graphite such as the filler particles, microcracks, binder phase, rosette-shaped quinoline insoluble (QI) particles, chaotic structures, and turbostratic graphite phase. The dimensions of microcracks were found to vary from a few nanometers to tens of microns. Furthermore, the microcracks were found to be filled with amorphous carbon of unknown origin. The pitch coke based graphite (NBG-18) was found to contain higher concentration of binder phase constituting QI particles as well as chaotic structures. The turbostratic graphite, present in all of the grades, was identified through their elliptical diffraction patterns. The difference in the microstructure has been analyzed in view of their processing conditions.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect of hydrostatic pressure as a function of temperature on the resistivity of a single crystal of the bilayer manganite (La(0.4)Pr(0.6))(1.2)Sr(1.8)Mn(2)O(7). Whereas a strong insulating behaviour is observed at all temperatures at ambient pressure, a clear transition into a metallic-like behaviour is induced when the sample is subjected to a pressure (P) of ~1.0 GPa at T < 70 K. A huge negative piezoresistance ~10(6) in the low temperature region at moderate pressures is observed. When the pressure is increased further (5.5 GPa), the high temperature polaronic state disappears and a metallic behaviour is observed. The insulator to metal transition temperature exponentially increases with pressure and the distinct peak in the resistivity that is observed at 1.0 GPa almost vanishes for P > 7.0 GPa. A modification in the orbital occupation of the e(g) electron between 3d(x(2)-y(2)) and 3d(z(2)-r(2)) states, as proposed earlier, leading to a ferromagnetic double-exchange phenomenon, can qualitatively account for our data.  相似文献

X-ray absorption spectroscopy and photoemission electron microscopy are techniques commonly used to determine the magnetic properties of thin films, crystals, and heterostructures. Recently, these methods have been used in the study of magnetoelectrics and multiferroics. The analysis of such materials has been compromised by the presence of multiple order parameters and the lack of information on how to separate these coupled properties. In this work, we shed light on the manifestation of dichroism from ferroelectric polarization and atomic structure using photoemission electron microscopy and x-ray absorption spectroscopy. Linear dichroism arising from the ferroelectric order in the PbZr0:2Ti0:8O3 thin films was studied as a function of incident x-ray polarization and geometry to unambiguously determine the angular dependence of the ferroelectric contribution to the dichroism. These measurements allow us to examine the contribution of surface charges and ferroelectric polarization as potential mechanisms for linear dichroism. The x-ray linear dichroism from ferroelectric order revealed an angular dependence based on the angle between the ferroelectric polarization direction and the x-ray polarization axis, allowing a formula for linear dichroism in ferroelectric samples to be defined.  相似文献

Half doped mixed valence manganite system La0.5Ca0.45?xSrxBa0.05MnO3 (with x=0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) synthesized through a low temperature nitrate route is systematically investigated in this paper. The electronic transport and magnetic properties are analyzed and compared apart from the study of unit cell structure and composition. The system is found to crystallize only in orthorhombic structure (Pnma) and the electronic phase transitions are observed to be of second order. The charge and orbital ordering have been observed to coexist with ferromagnetism in x=0.1 compound. Application of small polaron and variable range hopping models to resistivity data of the system corresponding to high temperature range shows increasing mobility of eg electrons with x, with the later model describing the electronic transport very closely than the former. The temperature dependent magnetization of the compounds shows monotonic increase of paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition (TC) with x. Ferromagnetism is exhibited for the complete temperature range down from respective TC in contrast to antiferromagnetism usually exhibited by half-doped compounds in the low temperature range. The plots of magnetization versus magnetic field reveal a transition from soft to hard magnetic character for all the compounds as the temperature is lowered.  相似文献

Singlet-states |S=(|alphabeta> - |betaalpha>)/sq.rt.2 can be excited in pairs of coupled spins I and S, first by preparing either a non-vanishing zero-quantum coherence I(+)S(-) or a state of longitudinal two-spin order I(z)S(z) and then by applying a coherent radio-frequency (RF) irradiation with a carrier frequency omega(rf) = (Omega(I) + Omega(S))/2 that lies half-way between the chemical shifts of the two spins involved. The life-times T(S) can be much longer than the spin-lattice relaxation time T(1) of longitudinal magnetization, but singlet-states are ultimately relaxed, not only by dipolar interactions between the active spins or with the external spins, but also as a result of a non-vanishing offset Deltaomega = omega(rf) - (Omega(I) + Omega(S))/2 or an insufficient amplitude of the RF irradiation that fails to fulfill the condition omega(1) > DeltaOmega = (Omega(I) - Omega(S)). In this work, the effect of off-resonance irradiation is explored and an approximate formula for the effective relaxation rate of the singlet population is provided on the basis of perturbation theory. The qualitative features of the dependence of the relaxation rate of the singlet population on the offset Deltaomega and on the difference DeltaOmega of the chemical shifts of the two spins are illustrated by comparison with numerical simulations.  相似文献

A series of novel dimethyl 7‐((3aR,5S,6S,6aR)‐6‐((1‐(4‐chlorophenyl)‐1H‐1,2,3‐triazol‐4‐yl)methoxy)‐2,2‐dimethyltetrahydrofuro[2,3‐d][1,3]dioxol‐5‐yl)‐4‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐9‐oxo‐8‐phenyl‐6‐thia‐1,2,8‐triazaspiro[4.4]non‐2‐en‐3‐ylphosphonate 2a – g were synthesized by the reaction of chalcone derivatives of 2‐((3aR,5S,6S,6aR)‐6‐((1‐(4‐chlorophenyl)‐1H‐1,2,3‐triazol‐4‐yl)methoxy)‐2,2‐dimethyltetrahydrofuro[2,3‐d][1,3]dioxol‐5‐yl)‐3‐phenylthiazolidin‐4‐one 1 with Bestmann–Ohira reagent. The chemical structures of newly synthesized compounds were elucidated by IR, NMR, MS, and elemental analysis. The compounds 2a – g were evaluated for their nematicidal activity against Dietylenchus myceliophagus and Caenorhabditis elegans; compounds 2b , 2c , 2g , and 2f showed appreciable nematicidal activity.  相似文献

Inspired by copper‐based oxygen reduction biocatalysts, we have studied the electrocatalytic behavior of a Cu‐based MOF (Cu‐BTT) for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline medium. This catalyst reduces the oxygen at the onset (Eonset) and half‐wave potential (E1/2) of 0. 940 V and 0.778 V, respectively. The high halfway potential supports the good activity of Cu‐BTT MOF. The high ORR catalytic activity can be interpreted by the presence of nitrogen‐rich ligand (tetrazole) and the generation of nascent copper(I) during the reaction. In addition to the excellent activity, Cu‐BTT MOF showed exceptional stability too, which was confirmed through chronoamperometry study, where current was unchanged up to 12 h. Further, the 4‐electrons transfer of ORR kinetics was confirmed by hydrodynamic voltammetry. The oxygen active center namely copper(I) generation during ORR has been understood by the reduction peak in cyclic voltammetry as well in the XPS analysis.  相似文献

Gravitational collapse singularities are undesirable, yet inevitable to a large extent in General Relativity. When matter satisfying null energy condition (NEC) collapses to the extent a closed trapped surface is formed, a singularity is inevitable according to Penrose’s singularity theorem. Since positive mass vacuum solutions are generally black holes with trapped surfaces inside the event horizon, matter cannot collapse to an arbitrarily small size without generating a singularity. However, in modified theories of gravity where positive mass vacuum solutions are naked singularities with no trapped surfaces, it is reasonable to expect that matter can collapse to an arbitrarily small size without generating a singularity. Here we examine this possibility in the context of a modified theory of gravity with torsion in an extra dimension. We study singularity-free static shell solutions to evaluate the validity of NEC on the shell. We find that with sufficiently high pressure, matter can be collapsed to arbitrarily small size without violating NEC and without producing a singularity.  相似文献
