Oxidative Addition of 4-Hydroxycoumarin to Alkenes. An Expeditious Entry to 2,3-Dihydro-4H-furo-[3,2-c][1]benzopyran-4-ones1

In the presence of one-electron metal oxidants (CAN, MAH), 4-hydroxycoumarin (1) adds to alkenes to give 2,3-dihydro-4H-furo[3,2-c][1]benzopyran-4-ones.     

Synthesis of highly decorated chiral 2-nitro-cyclohexane carboxylic esters through microwave-assisted organocatalyzed cascade reactions

Starting from (E)-β-substituted-β-nitroacrylates and α,β-unsaturated ketones, a stereoselective organocatalyzed one-pot methodology allowed to synthesize highly decorated chiral 2-nitro-cyclohexane carboxylic esters. The reaction is promoted by Cinchona alkaloid-derived primary amines in the presence of an acidic co-catalyst and affords two diastereoisomers, in good yields and high enantiomeric excess (often higher than 90% ee). By replacing conventional heating with microwave irradiation, cleaner reactions in shortened times (from 48 h to 30 min) were obtained, with improved dr (80:20) and high ee (up to 94%). The application of microwave technology to this organocatalytic methodology allowed also employing C1 substituted enones, leading to cyclohexanones with four contiguous stereocenters in two isomers only, and up to 99% enantioselectivity.

Development of an apparatus for cooling <Superscript>6</Superscript>Li-<Superscript>87</Superscript>Rb Fermi-Bose mixtures in a light-assisted magnetic trap

We describe an experimental setup designed to produce ultracold trapped gas clouds of fermionic ⁶Li and bosonic ⁸⁷Rb. This combination of alkali metals has the potential to reach deeper Fermi degeneracy with respect to other mixtures since it allows for improved heat capacity matching which optimizes sympathetic cooling efficiency. Atomic beams of the two species are independently produced and then decelerated by Zeeman slowers. The slowed atoms are collected into a magneto-optical trap and then transferred into a quadrupole magnetic trap. An ultracold Fermi gas with temperature in the 10^?3 T _F range should be attainable through selective confinement of the two species via a properly detuned laser beam focused in the center of the magnetic trap.     

Carbon-13 NMR characterisation of carboxyl derivatives of 1-ureidopyrroles

1-Ureido-5-methyl-2,3-dicarbethoxypyrrole under acidic conditions afforded different partially hydrolyzed or decarboxylated products. It has been possible to characterize two isomeric monoethyl esters of dicarboxylic acids of 1-ureidopyrroles by proton gated decoupled carbon-13 nmr spectra on the basis of multiplicities of the carbonyl carbons resonances.     

∗-Polynomial Identities of a Nonsymmetric ∗-Minimal Algebra

Let F be an infinite field of characteristic ≠?2. We study the ?-polynomial identities of the ?-minimal algebra R?=?UT _?(F?⊕?F, F). We describe the generators of T _?(R) and a linear basis of the relatively free algebra of R. When char.F?=?0, these results allow us to provide a complete list of polynomials generating irreducible GL × GL-modules decomposing the proper part of the relatively free algebra of R. Finally, the ?-codimension sequence of R is explicitly computed.     

Thed(7Li,p)8Li cross section nearE cm=0.61 MeV

The absolute cross sectionσ of thed(⁷Li,p)⁸Li reaction near theE _cm=0.61 MeV resonance has been measured using a⁷Li ion beam and a windowless gas target system filled with D₂ gas. The proton yield of the reaction and theβ-delayedα-activity of the residual nuclides⁸Li were observed both concurrently with the elastic scattering yield, relatingσ to the Rutherford scattering cross sectionσ _R. The resulting values,σ (fromp)=143.6±8.9 mb andσ (from⁸Li)=151±20 mb, lead to a weighted mean value ofσ=153±6 mb (x ²=2.26) including all available values andσ=146±5 mb (x ²=0.05) removing some values from the data set. The consequences for the expected flux of high-energy solar neutrinos are discussed.
