We analyze the Two Level Processor Sharing (TLPS) scheduling discipline with the hyper-exponential job size distribution and with the Poisson arrival process. TLPS is a convenient model to study the benefit of the file size based differentiation in TCP/IP networks. In the case of the hyper-exponential job size distribution with two phases, we find a closed form analytic expression for the expected sojourn time and an approximation for the optimal value of the threshold that minimizes the expected sojourn time. In the case of the hyper-exponential job size distribution with more than two phases, we derive a tight upper bound for the expected sojourn time conditioned on the job size. We show that when the variance of the job size distribution increases, the gain in system performance increases and the sensitivity to the choice of the threshold near its optimal value decreases. A continuous time risk process is considered, where the premium rate is constant and the claims form a compound Poisson process. We assume that an action is taken, either an investment to other business when the level of surplus reaches V>0V>0 or an injection of capital when the surplus goes below τ(0<τ<V)τ(0<τ<V). After assigning several costs related to managing the surplus, we obtain the long-run average cost per unit time. A numerical example is studied.  相似文献

In submerged culture of Ganoderma lucidum, the pH optimum for cell growth has been shown to be lower than that for exopolysaccharides (EPS) formation. Therefore, in the present study, a two-stage pH-control strategy was employed to maximize the productions of mycelial biomass and EPS. When compared, a batch culture without pH control had a maximum concentration of EPS and endopolysaccharides, which was much lower than those with pH control. Maximum mycelial growth (12.5 g/L) and EPS production (4.7 g/L) were achieved by shifting the controlled pH from 3.0 to 6.0 after day 4. The contrast between the controlled-pH process and uncontrolled pH was marked. By using various two-stage culture processes, it was also observed that culture pH has a significant affect on the yield of product, mycelial morphology, chemical composition, and molecular weight of EPS. A detailed observation of mycelial morphology revealed that the productive morphological form for EPS production was a dispersed pellet (controlled pH shifting from 3.0 to 6.0) rather than a compact pellet with a dense core area (controlled pH 4.5) or a feather-like pellet (controlled pH shifting from 6.0 to 3.0). Three different polysaccharides were obtained from each pH conditions, and their molecular weights and chemical compositions were significantly different.  相似文献

Xenotransplantation, the transplantation of cells, tissues or organs between individuals of different species, would resolve the current shortage of organs, but rejection remains the major hurdle to successful xenotransplantation. In the present study, we analyzed mixed lymphocyte reactions (MLRs) and used 51Cr release assays in order to identify the proliferation and expansion of mouse CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocyte cells against PK15, PK15/pIL-18 or PK15/mIL-18 cells. In addition, we identified T cell populations in mouse splenocytes and lymph node cells using two-color flow cytometry. It was found that the CD8+ T cells of xenograft recipients proliferated extensively and that the survival rates of populations of PK15/mIL-18 or PK15/pIL-18 cells were higher than untransfected controls. Moreover, CD3+ T cells were increased in mice injected with PK15 cells or PK15/pIL-18 cells but PK15/pIL-18 cell numbers were lower in lymph nodes than untransfected controls. CD8+ T cells numbers were reduced in the lymph nodes of PK15/pIL-18 injected mice. These results suggest that porcine IL-18 regulates anti-pig cellular rejection in C57BL/6 mice.  相似文献

Oxidative stress plays critical roles in airway inflammation that is usually accompanied by increased vascular permeability and plasma exudation. VEGF increases vascular permeability and leads to airway inflammation. In addition, VEGF has been shown to enhance receptor activator of NF-kappaB (RANK) expression in endothelial cells. An aim of the study was to determine the potential role of antioxidant in the regulation of RANK expression in murine model of asthma. We have used a C57BL/6 mouse model of allergic asthma to evaluate the effect of L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (OTC), a prodrug of cysteine, which acts as an antioxidant, and VEGF receptor inhibitor on RANK mRNA expression. The mice develop the following pathophysiological features of asthma in the lungs: increased expression of RANK mRNA, increased number of inflammatory cells of the airways, increased vascular permeability, and increased levels of VEGF. Administration of OTC and VEGF receptor inhibitor markedly reduced plasma extravasation and VEGF levels in allergen-induced asthmatic lungs. We also showed that the increased RANK mRNA expression at 72 h after ovalbumin inhalation were reduced by the administration of OTC or VEGF receptor inhibitor. The results indicate that OTC and VEGF receptor inhibitor which inhibit up-regulation of VEGF expression modulate RANK expression that may be in association with the regulation of vascular permeability, and suggest that VEGF may regulate the RANK expression. These findings provide a crucial molecular mechanism for the potential use of antioxidants to prevent and/or treat asthma and other airway inflammatory disorders.  相似文献

The polymer reference interaction site model from integral equation theory is used to investigate the structure and effective interactions in polymer nanocomposite melts where strong nanoparticle-monomer interactions are principally considered in this work. For finite particle volume fraction, the compromise for the interference between polymers and nanoparticles results in an optimum particle volume fraction for nanoparticle dispersion in polymer melts. At constant particle volume fraction, the effects of degree of polymerization become insignificant when it reaches a threshold value, below which quantitative effects on the organization states of polymer nanocomposite melts are found and help nanoparticles to well disperse in polymer. The aggregation of large nanoparticles decreases with the increase of the nanoparticle-monomer attraction strength. These observations may provide useful information for the development of new polymer materials.  相似文献

A micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC) method has been developed for monitoring the myrosinase catalysed hydrolysis of 2-hydroxy substituted glucosinolates and the simultaneous formation of the corresponding degradation products (oxazolidine-2-thiones (OZTs) and nitriles). Glucosibarin ((2R)-2-hydroxy-2-phenylethylglucosinolate) was chosen as the model glucosinolate owing to the difficulties in determining hydrolysis rates of this type of substrates in traditional UV-assays. The method was afterwards validated with glucobarbarin ((2S)-2-hydroxy-2-phenylethylglucosinolate) and progoitrin ((2R)-2-hydroxybut-3-enylglucosinolate). Aromatic glucosinolates without a 2-hydroxy group in their side chains, such as glucotropaeolin (benzylglucosinolate) and gluconasturtiin (phenethylglucosinolate) were also tested. Formation of the glucosinolate hydrolysis products was monitored simultaneously at 206 nm and 230 nm. This allowed estimation of the extinction coefficient of the OZT derived from glucosibarin, which was found to be 18,000 M(-1) cm(-1) and 12,000 M(-1) cm(-1) at 206 nm and 230 nm, respectively. The developed method has limit of detection of 0.04 mM and 0.06 mM and limit of quantification of 0.2 mM and 0.3 mM for the glucosibarin derived OZT and nitrile, respectively. Linearity of the glucosinolate concentration was examined at six concentration levels from 2.5 mM to 100 mM and at 206 nm a straight line (R(2)=0.9996) was obtained. The number of theoretical plates (N) at the optimal system conditions was 245,000 for the intact glucosibarin, 264,000 for the OZT and 252,000 for the nitrile.  相似文献

Five betablockers (oxprenolol, metoprolol, propranolol, bisoprolol, betaxolol) were analysed in effluents collected over a 3-month period from wastewater treatment plants (WTP) from the Lyon area in France. The analytical protocol consisted of solid phase extraction of the dissolved aqueous phase on HLB cartridges and analysis by gas chromatography coupled with mass detection (GC-MS) after derivatization. Concentrations of metoprolol, propranolol and bisoprolol varied from 45 to 2838 ng/L whereas oxprenolol and betaxolol were never detected in these effluent samples. A high variability of betablockers concentrations and fluxes was observed between WTP effluents and within each WTP over the time period studied. Considering a flux per person for a dry weather period, Fontaine plant was pointed out as the less efficient WTP, which might be explained by its type of treatment (biological aerated filters). But we need additional analysis of effluent and influent waters to confirm this hypothesis. A tentative approach of local environmental risk assessment of propranolol based on the calculation of PEC/PNEC (predicted environmental concentration/predicted non effect concentration) ratio approach lead us to conclude on a negligible risk for the downstream rivers (Rhône river at Ternay and Saône river at Couzon Mt d’Or).  相似文献
