Syntheses,X-ray,MS, NMR and CD structure determination of nickel(II) complexes of Schiff bases of (S)-N-(2-benzoylphenyl)-1-benzylpyrrolidine-2-carboxamide and aromatic α-amino acids

A preparative procedure for the synthesis of an important chiral synthon of side-chain protected tyrosine was developed and optimised for the minimisation of nickel salts waste. While preparing a similar side-chain protected tryptophan synthon, an unexpected low stability was found of the Boc-protective group of the tryptophan aromatic nitrogen during purification on silica gel. X-ray crystal structure determination, tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and NMR were applied for the elucidation of the structures of the prepared complexes and by-products. Stereochemistry of products of α-methylation of the complexes was assessed using a model tyrosine-derived compound.

Dynamische interpretation von infrarotspektren

(Dynamic Interpretation of Infrared Spectra) Results of investigation of an algorithm, based on a novel static-dynamic method, for interpretation of infrared spectra are presented. The IRSCAN-D algorithm can recognize 103 infrared-active substructures comprising C, H, N, O, S, halogen, P and Si atoms. The results indicate that the algorithm is efficient; roughly 97% of the substructures are correctly ascribed, with a surprisingly low number (60%) of false recognition.     

Nanotubes Made from Deeply Undercooled Cryolite/Alumina Melts

The rapid‐solidification processing (by a cooling rate of 10⁵–10⁶ K/s) was used for the preparation of deeply undercooled cryolite/alumina (Na₃AlF₆/Al₂O₃) melts. We found a mass of nanotubes on the surface of these undercooled melts. The nanotubes were preferentially located on the defect places of the surface with the following approximate dimensions: base≈100×100 nm, length≈1000 nm. The solidified samples with the nanotubes on the surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and infrared spectroscopy (IR).     

Synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched polyesters from glycerol‐based AB2 monomer

This article describes the synthesis of a new glycerol‐based AB₂ type monomer—ethyl{3‐[2‐hydroxy‐1‐(hydroxymethyl)ethoxy]propyl}thioacetate ( 4 ) and its application for the preparation of hyperbranched polyesters. The polycondensation of 4 has been performed over a wide range of catalysts and reaction conditions leading to polymers containing solely primary hydroxyl groups. The polycondensation progress has been monitored by means of ¹H NMR. The degree of branching of the polymers showed to be in the range of 0.5 ± 0.03. The obtained polyesters easily undergo hydrolysis or alcoholysis and may be of interest as recycled materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3860–3868, 2009     

Coupled model of hygro-thermal behavior of concrete during fire

We present a nonlinear mathematical model for numerical analysis of the behavior of concrete subject to transient heating according to the standard ISO fire curve. The mathematical model consists of the balance equations (conservations laws) with boundary and initial conditions, constitutive laws and material data for concrete at high temperatures. The numerical algorithm based on finite element method for the numerical solution of the energy equation and finite difference method for the mass balance equations is presented. Distributions of temperature, saturation of water and water vapor pressure are demonstrated.     

Rheological and thermal properties of agarose aqueous solutions and hydrogels

In this article, we report on the rheological properties of agarose aqueous solutions and gels. Viscosity curves were determined for homogeneous agarose aqueous solutions at different temperatures (from 68 to 38 °C) to study the viscosity behavior as the systems undergo gelation. The gelation phenomenon of agarose solutions was also investigated by shear oscillation experiments and differential scanning calorimetry. The gelation and melting temperature as a function of agarose concentration were determined together with the gelation and melting enthalpies. For d ≥ 1, a d-clique in a graph G is a complete d-vertex subgraph not contained in any larger complete subgraph of G. We investigate the limit distribution of the number of d-cliques in the binomial random graph G(n, p), p = p(n), n→∞.     

Reaction of 3-chloroquinoline-2,4-diones with ethanolamine and rearrangement of the reaction products

The reaction of tertiary α-chloroketones with ethanolamine has not been hitherto described in the literature. Herein, we describe the reaction of tertiary 3-chloroquinoline-2,4-diones with ethanolamine to give novel 3-(2-hydroxyethylamino)quinoline-2,4-diones. These compounds provide 3-(2-oxooxazolidin-3-yl)quinoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones and new compounds with dimeric character after reaction with triphosgene. Molecular rearrangement proceeds during the reaction of 3-(2-hydroxyethylamino)quinoline-2,4-diones with isocyanic acid. Three types of reaction products arise: 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)imidazo[1,5-c]quinazoline-3,5-diones, 3-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3,3a-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-]quinoline-4(5H)diones and primarily 5-hydroxy-1-(hydroxyethyl)-1′H-spiro[imidazolidine-5,3′-indole]-2,2′-diones. The reaction mechanism and product stereochemistry are discussed. The ¹H, ¹³C and ¹⁵N NMR spectra of the prepared compounds were measured, and all resonances were assigned from appropriate two-dimensional experiments.
