Bioconcentration of zinc and its effect on the biochemical constituents of the gill tissues of Labeo rohita: An FT-IR study

In the present work, an attempt has been made to assess the bioconcentration and distribution of zinc on the selected organs of Labeo rohita and to study the effect of zinc exposure on the biochemical constitutions of gill tissues of L. rohita by using FT-IR Spectroscopy. The concentration pattern in the organs reveals that the liver is the prime site of metal binding and muscle accumulates least metal concentration. The accumulation profile is in the order: liver > gill > kidney > brain > bone > muscle. It has also been observed that the administration of chelating agent d-Penicillamine (DPA) reduces the zinc concentration in all tissues more effectively than the administration of the chelating agent Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid. The FT-IR spectra reveal that zinc exposure causes significant changes in the biochemical constitutions of the gill tissues. It causes an alteration in the protein secondary structures by decreasing the α-helix and increasing the β-sheet contents. Further, it has been observed that the administration of chelating agent DPA improves the protein and lipid contents in the gill tissues compared to zinc exposed tissues. This result shows that DPA is the effective chelator of zinc in reducing the body burden of L. rohita fingerlings. In conclusion, the findings of the current study suggest that zinc exposure causes significant changes in both lipids and proteins of the gill tissues, and changes the protein profile in favour of β-sheet structure.     

Homoclinic Orbits and Entropy for Three-Dimensional Flows

We prove that every \(C^1\) three-dimensional flow with positive topological entropy can be \(C^1\) approximated by flows with homoclinic orbits.     

Photoluminescence of two thienylpyrrole polymers

Photoluminescence of two thienylpyrrole polymers, one containing three thiophene and one pyrrole rings in the repeat, and the other having four thiophene and one pyrrole rings in the repeat, were studied. The photoluminescence peaks were observed to shift with the change of the excitation frequencies. The shift in the peak position had a nearly linear dependence on the shift in the excitation frequency. This result showed that using different excitation frequencies optical gaps corresponding to different conjugation lengths were accessed, and, thus, the corresponding photoluminescence peaks were observed. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Solvent-Free Organic Syntheses

Ecological points of view must nowadays be taken into consideration in the development of new syntheses and apportioned due importance in assessing the viability of a new synthesis. A crucial factor here is the need to restrict the use of ecologically harmful organic solvents. Examples are presented which show that solvent-free reactions are not only of interest from an environmental viewpoint, but also offer considerable advantages in terms of yield, selectivity, and simplicity of the reaction procedures.     

Ring distortion effect on δ13C values of bicyclo[4.n.0] alkanes

The ¹³C NMR spectra of trans- and cis-fused bicyclo[4.n.0]alkanes, where n=4, 3 and 2, were determined. The distortion of the six membered ring, which is due to the strain arising from the 1,2 fusion of cyclohexane with a smaller ring, is apparent mainly for the chemical shifts of the ring junction carbons. Both for the trans-and for the cis-fused hydrocarbons the results support a cyclohexane in a chair conformation, distorted to a different degree according to the size of the other ring. The geometries of the different compounds in the series were calculated.
