Macrocyclic Metal Complexes Bearing Rigid Polyaromatic Ligands: Synthesis and Catalytic Activity

We synthesised palladium and platinum complexes possessing cyclic and acyclic pincer‐type polyaromatic ligands and investigated their structural effect on the catalysis. The pincer‐type bis(6‐arylpyridin‐2‐yl)benzene skeleton was constructed via Kröhnke pyridine synthesis under transition metal‐free conditions on gram‐scale quantity. Ligand structure significantly influenced catalytic activity toward the platinum‐catalysed hydrosilylation of diphenyl acetylenes, despite the ligand‐independence of the conformations and electronic properties of these complexes.     

Amphiphilic liquid‐crystalline 4‐miktoarm star copolymers with a siloxane junction leading to cylindrically nanostructured templates for a siloxane‐based nanodot array

Well‐defined A₃B‐, A₂B₂‐, and AB₃‐type 4‐miktoarm star copolymers (M_n = 10,500–16,200, M_w/M_n = 1.16–1.18) consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and polymethacrylate bearing an azobenzene mesogen (PMA(Az)) as the arms and cyclotetrasiloxane as the core unit were synthesized using a combined route composed of a thiol‐ene click reaction and atom transfer radical polymerization. Microphase‐separated structures of the star copolymers in thin films with a thickness of approximately 100 nm were investigated by GISAXS and TEM. The A₃B‐type star‐(PEO)₃[PMA(Az)]₁ copolymer formed a more highly ordered PEO cylinder array with perpendicular alignment in the PMA(Az) matrix than that of the corresponding linear‐type block copolymer. The center‐to‐center distance of the PEO cylinders and the cylinder diameter were 13 and 4 nm, respectively. The highly ordered star‐(PEO)₃[PMA(Az)]₁ thin film was directly transferred to a siloxane‐based nanodot array by oxygen reactive ion etching. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Catalytic hydrogenation of arenes with rhodium nanoparticles in a water-in-supercritical CO2 microemulsion

Rhodium nanoparticles dispersed by a CO2 microemulsion are effective catalysts for rapid hydrogenation of arenes in supercritical CO2.     

Novel family of low molecular weight hydrogelators based on L-lysine derivatives

New L-lysine derivatives with a positively charged terminal can gel water below 1 wt%; particularly, 1a and 2a form a hydrogel at 0.3 wt% corresponding to approximately 12,300 and 12,500 waters/gelator molecule, respectively.     

Synthesis of 1-azidocyclopropanecarboxylates from 2-azido-2alkenoates

Addition of diazomethane to 2-azido-2-alkenoates followed by pyrolysis of the resulting pyrazoline derivatives affords the title compounds.     

New oleanan-type triterpene and cincholic acid glycosides from Peruvian "Uña de Gato" (Uncaria tomentosa)

A new oleanan-type triterpene and three new cincholic acid glycosides were isolated from Peruvian "Una de Gato" (Cat's claw, plant of origin: Uncaria tomentosa), a traditional herbal medicine in Peru. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis.     

A new 9-methoxyyohimbine-type indole alkaloid from Mitragyna africanus

A new yohimbine-type indole alkaloid (1). was isolated from the stem bark of Mitragyna africanus (WILLD.) collected in Nigeria, along with known seven Corynanthe-type oxindole alkaloids, two secoiridoids, three lignans, and a quinovic acid derivative. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses.     

In situ organogelation at room temperature: direct synthesis of gelators in organic solvents

Organogels are formed through a conventional organogelation involving a heating process and an in situ organogelation at room temperature. The conventional organogelation is carried out by dissolution of gelators by heating, while the in situ organogelation is performed by mixing of highly reactive methyl 2,6-diisocyanatohexanoate (LDI) or 2-isocyanatoethyl 2,6-diisocyanatohexanoate (LTI) and alkylamines. The in situ organogelation produced the organogels within several seconds after mixing. The organogels prepared by the in situ organogelation showed quite similar FT-IR spectra and SEM photographs to those formed by conventional organogelation. Moreover, the in situ organogelation using LTI and octylamine as well as dodecylamine produced organogels of acetone, ethyl acetate, and acetonitrile that gelators 5 and 6 cannot gel through conventional organogelation.     

Ten new Lycopodium alkaloids having the lycopodane skeleton isolated from Lycopodium serratum Thunb

Ten new alkaloids, lycoposerramines-F (1), -G (2), -H (3), -I (4), -J (5), -K (6), -L (7), -M (8), -N (9), and -O (10), having lycopodine-related structures, were isolated from the club moss Lycopodium serratum THUNB. and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and/or chemical transformation.     

A remark on the definitions of viscosity solutions for the integro-differential equations with Lévy operators

We prove the equivalence of the three different definitions of the viscosity solution for the integro-differential equation with the Lévy operator. The two of the definitions are known in the preceding works of the author and the others, and the last one is new. A construction of a sequence of the approximating test functions to the subsolution (or the supersolution) is indispensable for the proof, and it is done explicitly in the paper.
