We study the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of a class of linear dissipative integral differential equations. We show in the abstract setting a necessary and sufficient condition to get an exponential decay of the solution. A thermal model of the interaction of pulsed near-infrared laser radiation from a Nd:YAG laser was made, taking the measured
powder properties such as reflectance, optical penetration depth and thermal conductivity into account. It allows an estimation
of the evolution of two different temperatures: the average temperature of the powder (taken over the grains in a volume given
by the laser beam diameter and the optical penetration depth) and the temperature distinction within a single grain. It showed
that in pulsed mode consolidation can be achieved at much lower average power as the surface of the powder particles are molten
but their cores remain at nearly room temperature. This leads to a much lower average temperature and therefore a dramatic
decrease in residual thermal stresses in the finished piece. The results of the model were experimentally tested and confirmed.

Most operational models in atmospheric physics, meteorology and climatology nowadays adopt spherical geodesic grids and require “ad hoc” developed interpolation procedures. The author does a comparison between chosen representatives of linear, distance-based and cubic interpolation schemes outlining their advantages and drawbacks in this specific application field. A comprehensive numerical tool has been developed for the evaluation of the performances of Radio over Fiber (RoF) links intended for wireless signal distribution.At the transmitter end an appropriate set of rate equations allows to model the optical source as a solitary laser or as an appropriately injection locked laser. The optical channel is modeled putting into account the combined effect of fiber dispersion, laser source non ideal performances (e.g. non-linear effects, frequency chirp), and quadratic detection of the receiving photodiode. Confocal fluorescence optical microscopy and magnetic resonance microscopy are each used to study live cells in a minimally invasive way. Both techniques provide complementary information. Therefore, by examining cells simultaneously with both methodologies, more detailed information is obtained than is possible with each microscope individually. In this paper two configurations of a combined confocal and magnetic resonance microscope are described. The first configuration is capable of studying large single cells or three-dimensional cell agglomerates, whereas the second configuration is designed for the investigation of monolayers of mammalian cells. In both cases the sample compartment is part of a temperature regulated perfusion system. Images obtained with the combined system are shown forXenopus laevis oocytes, model JB6 tumor spheroids, and a single layer of Chinese hamster ovary cells.
