Vocal cord paralysis is a disease that can cause voice disability and aspiration problems. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE; Gore-Tex) has been widely used in cardiovascular and plastic surgery; however, its biocompatibility and safety have not been established precisely in the larynx. In this study, the biocompatibility and safety of ePTFE used in vocal cord medialization in the rabbit larynx were assessed. Type 1 thyroplasty with Gore-Tex was performed on one side of the larynx in eight rabbits. A sham procedure was applied on the contralateral side of their larynx. The rabbits were sacrificed after 6 months, and macroscopic and microscopic evaluations and comparisons were performed. No significant inflammatory response to Gore-Tex or displacement of the implant was seen. There was only a tiny fibrotic capsule surrounding the material in each specimen. Intense eosinophilic cell infiltration was seen surrounding one rabbit specimen. Gore-Tex seems to be a biocompatible, stable, and reversible material that can be safely used in laryngeal framework surgery.  相似文献

Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) was used to determine elemental concentration of plutonium oxide surrogate (cerium oxide) residue for monitoring the fabrication of lanthanide borosilicate glass. Quantitative analysis by LIBS is affected by the severe limitation of variation in the induced plasma due to changes in the matrix. Multivariate calibration was applied to LIBS data to predict the concentrations of Ce, Cr, Fe, Mo, and Ni. A total of 18 different samples were prepared to compare calibration from univariate data analysis and from multivariate data analysis. Multivariate calibration was obtained using Principal Component Regression (PCR) and Partial Least Squares (PLS). Univariate calibration was obtained from background-corrected atomic emission lines. Calibration results show improvement in the coefficient of determination from 0.87 to 0.97 for Ce compared to univariate calibration. The root mean square error also reduced from 7.46 to 2.93%. A similar trend was obtained for Cr, Fe, Mo, and Ni also. These results clearly demonstrate the feasibility of using LIBS for online process monitoring in a hazardous waste management environment.  相似文献

The static conversion from brick-and-mortar retailing to the hybrid click-and-mortar business model is studied from the perspective of distribution logistics. Retailers run warehouses and brick-and-mortar stores to meet the demand of their walk-in customers. When they decide to operate on the Web as an e-tailer, also click-and-mortar stores are needed which can serve both walk-in and online customers. While the distance between home and the nearest open store is used as a proxy measure for walk-in customers, a quality of service (QoS) guarantee for online customers is timely delivery of their orders. We describe and solve a static location-routing based problem for companies that embrace the clicks-and-bricks strategy in their retail operations. An augmented Lagrangian relaxation method embedded in a subgradient optimization procedure generates lower bounds, whereas a heuristic method finds feasible solutions. The performance of the Lagrangian-based solution method is tested on a number of randomly generated test problems.  相似文献

In this study, molecular dynamics simulations are performed by using a modified form of Morse potential function in the framework of the Embedded Atom Method (EAM). Temperature-and pressure-dependent behaviours of bulk modulus, second-order elastic constants (SOEC), and the linear-thermal expansion coefficient is calculated and compared with the available experimental data. The melting temperature is estimated from 3 different plots. The obtained results are in agreement with the available experimental findings for iridium.   相似文献

In this work, the investigation of the interface state density and series resistance from capacitance–voltage (CV) and conductance–voltage (G/ωV) characteristics in In/SiO2/p-Si metal–insulator–semiconductor (MIS) structures with thin interfacial insulator layer have been reported. The thickness of SiO2 film obtained from the measurement of the oxide capacitance corrected for series resistance in the strong accumulation region is 220 Å. The forward and reverse bias CV and G/ωV characteristics of MIS structures have been studied at the frequency range 30 kHz–1 MHz at room temperature. The frequency dispersion in capacitance and conductance can be interpreted in terms of the series resistance (Rs) and interface state density (Dit) values. Both the series resistance Rs and density of interface states Dit are strongly frequency-dependent and decrease with increasing frequency. The distribution profile of RsV gives a peak at low frequencies in the depletion region and disappears with increasing frequency. Experimental results show that the interfacial polarization contributes to the improvement of the dielectric properties of In/SiO2/p-Si MIS structures. The interface state density value of In/SiO2/p-Si MIS diode calculated at strong accumulation region is 1.11×1012 eV−1 cm−2 at 1 MHz. It is found that the calculated value of Dit (≈1012 eV−1 cm−2) is not high enough to pin the Fermi level of the Si substrate disrupting the device operation.  相似文献

Targeting the tumor microenvironment (TME) provides opportunities to modulate tumor physiology, enhance the delivery of therapeutic agents, impact immune response and overcome resistance. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a photochemistry-based, nonthermal modality that produces reactive molecular species at the site of light activation and is in the clinic for nononcologic and oncologic applications. The unique mechanisms and exquisite spatiotemporal control inherent to PDT enable selective modulation or destruction of the TME and cancer cells. Mechanical stress plays an important role in tumor growth and survival, with increasing implications for therapy design and drug delivery, but remains understudied in the context of PDT and PDT-based combinations. This review describes pharmacoengineering and bioengineering approaches in PDT to target cellular and noncellular components of the TME, as well as molecular targets on tumor and tumor-associated cells. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of mechanical stress in the context of targeted PDT regimens, and combinations, for primary and metastatic tumors.  相似文献

In the present study, spiro (1a), dispiro (1b, 2, 3), per-substituted spermine-bridged (69) and dispiroansa spermine (10) derivatives of cyclotriphosphazene have been synthesized. The structures of the novel compounds (1b, 610) have been characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, mass spectrometry, 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of 1b, 2, 8, and 10 were determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography. In order to investigate the anti-tumour properties of the newly synthesized cyclotriphosphazene derivatives, in vitro cytotoxic activity test (MTT assay) has been performed using HT-29 (human colon adenocarcinoma) and Hep2 (human epidermoid larynx carcinoma) cell lines. The result of the MTT assay showed that while compound 1a has cytotoxic effect on both Hep2 and HT-29 cell lines, compound 3 has only cytotoxic effect towards the Hep 2 cells.  相似文献
