Formal total synthesis of ottelione using iridium-catalyzed oxidative desymmetrization

A catalytic asymmetric synthesis of a key intermediate for ottelione has been achieved using oxidative desymmetrization as the critical step. This oxidative desymmetrization was efficiently promoted by an iridium diamine complex to give the desired hydroxy ketone in >99% ee and 60% yield.     

H2SO4O2 AS AN EFFICIENT CATALYST FOR THE PREPARATION OF PHENYLHYDRAZONES AND 2,4-DINITROPHENYLHYDRAZONES UNDER SOLVENT-FREE CONDITIONS

HSO mixed with silica gel (1:1) by weight produces a white powder which is an effective catalyst for the conversion of carbonyl compounds to their corresponding phenylhydrazones and 2,4-dintrophenylhydrazones under solvent-free conditions.     

A comparative homocoupling reaction of aryl halides using monomeric orthopalladated complex of 4‐methoxybenzoylmethylenetri‐ phenylphosphorane under conventional and microwave irradiation conditions

The activity of [Pd(C₆H₄CH₂NH₂‐κ²‐C‐N)PPh₃MOBPPY]OTf complex, A (MOBPPY = 4‐methoxybenzoylmethylenetriphenylphosphoraneylide) was investigated in the homocoupling reaction of a vast range of aryl halides under both conventional and microwave irradiation conditions and their results were compared. The complex was active and showed high efficiency in the formation of new C‐C bonds. The yields were excellent using a catalytic amount of [Pd(C₆H₄CH₂NH₂‐κ²‐C‐N)PPh₃MOBPPY]OTf complex in N, N‐dimethylformamide at 120 °C. In comparison to conventional heating conditions, the reactions under microwave irradiation gave higher yields in shorter reaction times. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Palladium‐catalyzed cyanation reaction of aryl halides using K4[Fe(CN)6] as non‐toxic source of cyanide under microwave irradiation

An efficient method for preparation of aryl nitriles—using [Pd{C₆H₂(CH₂CH₂ NH₂)‐(OMe)₂,3,4} (µ‐Br)]₂ complex as an efficient catalyst and K₄[Fe(CN)₆] as a green cyanide source—from aryl bromides, aryl iodides and aryl chlorides under microwave irradiation has been reported. This complex has been demonstrated to be an active and efficient catalyst for this reaction. Using a catalytic amount of this synthesized palladium complex in DMF at 130 °C led to production of the cyanoarenes in excellent yields in short reaction times. Unbounded order continuous operators on Riesz spaces

In this paper, using the concept of unbounded order convergence in Riesz spaces, we define new classes of operators, named unbounded order continuous (uo-continuous, for short) and boundedly unbounded order continuous operators. We give some conditions under which uo-continuity will be equivalent to order continuity of some operators on Riesz spaces. We show that the collection of all uo-continuous linear functionals on a Riesz space E is a band of \(E^\sim \).     

Functionalisation of the upper rim of calix[4]arene via alcoholysis and hydrosilylation reactions

Metalation of 5,17-dibromo-25,26,27,28-tetra propoxy calix[4]arene (1) with n-BuLi in THF at −78 °C gave organolithium reagent, which reacted with Me₂HSiCl to give 5,17-bis(dimethylsilyl)-25,26,27,28-tetra propoxy calix[4]arene (2). The Si-H groups of calixarene 2 were treated with methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, pentanol, hexanol, 2-propanol and 2-methyl propanol in the presence of Karstedt catalyst (platinum(0)-1,3-divinyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethyl disiloxane complex, solution in xylene) to give the corresponding 5,17-bis(alkoxydimethylsilyl)-25,26,27,28-tetra propoxy calix[4]arene (3). Moreover, calixarene 2 was easily functionalized with a variety of alkenes using Karstedt catalyst to give the corresponding organosilylated calix[4]arene (4).
