This article surveys the intercalation characteristics of a number of clay minerals which can be utilized as host materials for photofunctional organic–inorganic hybrid systems as well as photochemical anisotropic reaction fields. The introduction of this review describes the chemical compositions and the structural features of various kinds of artificial as well as naturally produced clays. The chemical structures of these clays are often considered to be complicated due to their unfamiliar names which are sometimes taken from the areas where they originate although, structurally, only slight differences actually exist. The second chapter summarizes the adsorption and aggregation properties of typical organic dyes in clays. The aggregation behavior is sensitive to the kind and amount of metallic ions present in the lattice of the clays, the amount of adsorbed water as well as the structure of the organic guests to be intercalated. All of these factors are discussed in relation to the adsorption and aggregation behavior. In the third chapter, the photochemical reactions of excited metal complexes adsorbed in clays are discussed. Electron transfers for [Ru(bpy)3]2+ in clays are described, showing that the clay layers provide reaction fields which stabilize the resulting charge separated species. This article aims to provide important insights into the fundamental mechanisms and properties of anisotropic reaction fields for the applications in design of promising, new photochemical and photobiological systems and processes.  相似文献

Rose bengal has been used in the diagnosis of ophthalmic disorders and liver function, and has been studied for the treatment of solid tumor cancers. To date, the antibacterial activity of rose bengal has been sporadically reported; however, these data have been generated with a commercial grade of rose bengal, which contains major uncontrolled impurities generated by the manufacturing process (80–95% dye content). A high-purity form of rose bengal formulation (HP-RBf, >99.5% dye content) kills a battery of Gram-positive bacteria, including drug-resistant strains at low concentrations (0.01–3.13 μg/mL) under fluorescent, LED, and natural light in a few minutes. Significantly, HP-RBf effectively eradicates Gram-positive bacterial biofilms. The frequency that Gram-positive bacteria spontaneously developed resistance to HP-RB is extremely low (less than 1 × 10−13). Toxicity data obtained through our research programs indicate that HP-RB is feasible as an anti-infective drug for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) involving multidrug-resistant (MDR) microbial invasion of the skin, and for eradicating biofilms. This article summarizes the antibacterial activity of pharmaceutical-grade rose bengal, HP-RB, against Gram-positive bacteria, its cytotoxicity against skin cells under illumination conditions, and mechanistic insights into rose bengal’s bactericidal activity under dark conditions.  相似文献

An optical method to measure the weight density of raw glass wool has been developed for use in a manufacturing plant. The method is based on the light attenuation theory. The system consists of the usual white light as a light source, a solar cell as a light-sensitive receiver, an amplifier, a personal computer with an A/D converter for data acquisition and a monitor for display of the data. The accuracy of the system was found to be above 98% and the system can be effectively applied to practical use in the factory. The system may be further applied for quality control in manufacturing raw glass wool.  相似文献

A nonionic reverse-micelle based approach is described for fabrication of a network structure consisting of chain-like arrays of gold nanoparticles, followed by coating process with a uniform silica layer using a sol-gel method. The hexadecyl-poly (ethylene oxide-15) ether (designated C16E15) is used as a template for this study. An optical method for directly measuring the thickness of a thin transparent film has been proposed by means of multi-wave laser interference at many incident angles, and confirmed experimentally by means of equipment made on an experimental basis. Two methods are available: one can be used when an index of refraction of the film, a wavelength λ, and two successive angles of incidence at which the sinusoidal light intensity has minimum values, are known (Method I), and another can be used without an index of film refraction when three successive angles of incidence and a wavelength are known (Method II). The smallest measurable thickness is 1.43λ for Method I, and 2.5λ for Method II. The largest measurable thickness is about 100λ for both methods. The measurement error by means of numerical calculation is Δh/h−1.01×10−2, and that obtained experimentally with an angular resolution of incident light of 0.3° is Δh/h7×10−2 for Method I. The refractive index can also be measured by means of Method II.  相似文献

The carbon–carbon (C?C) bond activation of [n]cycloparaphenylenes ([n]CPPs) by a transition‐metal complex is herein reported. The Pt0 complex Pt(PPh3)4 regioselectively cleaves two C?C σ bonds of [5] CPP and [6]CPP to give cyclic dinuclear platinum complexes in high yields. Theoretical calculations reveal that the relief of ring strain drives the reaction. The cyclic complex was further transformed into a cyclic diketone by using a CO insertion reaction.  相似文献
