Experimental study on generation of high energy few cycle pulses with hollow fiber filled with neon

25 fs pulses with energy up to 0.8 mJ from a multi-pass amplifier system have been spectrally broadened from 460 nm to 950 nm due to strong self-phase modulation (SPM) effect in a gas filled hollow fiber. Using a set of chirped mirrors, the ultra-broadband dispersion compensation was achieved, and the compressed pulses reached their transform limit. Under optimized conditions we achieved pulses with duration of 5.1 fs and with energy of 400 μJ, corresponding to the peak power up to 80 GW. Completely solid-state LD-side-pumped Nd:YAlO<Subscript>3</Subscript> CW blue laser with intracavity frequency tripling

We report a completely solid-state continuous-wave (CW) blue laser operating at 447 nm utilizing intracavity frequency tripling of an LD-side-pumped Nd:YAlO₃ (Nd:YAP) laser operating at 1341.4 nm. An LBO crystal with type-I critical phase matching and a KTP crystal with type-II critical phase matching (CTM) were used for the second harmonic generation (SHG) and the third harmonic generation (THG), respectively. In view of the analysis of the cavity stability, a four-mirror folded cavity was designed and the output characteristics were theoretically analyzed. Experimental characteristics obtained were shown to be in agreement with the theoretical analysis. The maximum output power of the 447 nm CW blue laser reached 114 mW, which corresponds to a red-to-blue conversion efficiency of 9%.

Quincunx fundamental refinable functions and quincunx biorthogonal wavelets

We analyze the approximation and smoothness properties of quincunx fundamental refinable functions. In particular, we provide a general way for the construction of quincunx interpolatory refinement masks associated with the quincunx lattice in . Their corresponding quincunx fundamental refinable functions attain the optimal approximation order and smoothness order. In addition, these examples are minimally supported with symmetry. For two special families of such quincunx interpolatory masks, we prove that their symbols are nonnegative. Finally, a general way of constructing quincunx biorthogonal wavelets is presented. Several examples of quincunx interpolatory masks and quincunx biorthogonal wavelets are explicitly computed.

     

Determination of purine and pyrimidine bases in DNA by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with electrochemical detection

A method based on micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with electrochemical detection was developed for the determination of cytosine, 5-methylcytosine (5-MC), thymine, adenine, and guanine in the hydrolysates of DNA. The working electrode was fabricated in a novel self-positioning carbon disc electrode system that can align the capillary outlet with the working electrode without a three-dimensional micromanipulator. The five analytes could be well separated within 10 min in a 40 cm length capillary at a separation voltage of 9 kV in a 40 mmol/l borate buffer (pH 10.0) containing 100 mmol/l sodium dodecyl sulfate. Good linearity was observed between peak current and concentration of bases over three orders of magnitude with the detection limits (SIN=3) ranging from 1.28 x 10(-6) to 5.02 x 10(-6) mol/l. This proposed method demonstrated long-term stability and reproducibility with relative standard deviations of less than 5% for both migration time and peak current (n=7). It has been successfully applied to determine bases including 5-MC in the hydrolysates of fish sperm DNA, calf thymus DNA, and DNA isolated from spleen cells of female mice.     

Catalytic one-pot synthesis of [5.5.5.6]fenestrane systems via a dicobalt octacarbonyl-catalyzed tandem cycloaddition of dienediynes

Catalytic one-pot synthesis of fenestrane derivatives from dienediynes was developed: fenestranes were synthesized in high yields by a dicobalt octacarbonyl-catalyzed tandem cycloaddition of dienediynes.     

Observation of unusual surface ordering in a uniaxial Sm-A phase formed by a highly biaxial compound

We have studied one banana-shaped compound using null-transmission ellipsometry. By studying free-standing films of various thicknesses we confirm that this compound exhibits the Sm-A phase. This is the first banana-shaped compound with a relatively small bend angle (approximately 140 degrees) in which a uniaxial phase has been observed. At the lower temperature end of the Sm-A phase we observe unusual ordering at the surface of the film.     

Measurements of the cross section for e(+)e(-) --> hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 2 to 5 GeV

We report values of R = sigma(e(+)e(-)-->hadrons)/sigma(e(+)e(-)-->mu(+)mu(-)) for 85 center-of-mass energies between 2 and 5 GeV measured with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider.     

Investigation of Brillouin effects in small-core holey optical fiber: lasing and scattering

We demonstrate for what is believed to be the first time a Brillouin laser based on a holey fiber (HF). Using a simple Fabry-Perot resonator scheme containing a 73.5-m-long highly nonlinear HF with an effective area of 2.85 microm(2) , we obtain a threshold of 125 mW and a slope efficiency of ~70% . Stimulated and spontaneous Brillouin scattering effects are investigated in the HF, and we show that the high lasing threshold is due mainly to reduction of the effective gain coefficient caused by structural nonuniformity along the fiber length.

本文构造了由多模复共轭相干态的相反态|{-Z_j^(a)*}>_q与多模虚共轭相干态的相反态|{-iZ_j^(b)*}>_q这两者的线性叠加所组成的第Ⅱ种强度不等的非对称两态叠加多模叠加态光场|Ψ_Ⅱ^(ab)>_q,利用多模压缩态理论研究了态|Ψ_Ⅱ^(ab)>_q的任意偶数阶等阶N次方Y压缩特性.结果发现:1)在压缩阶数N取偶数,即N=2p的条件下,无论p=2m(m=1,2,3,…,…),还是p=2m+1(m=0,1,2,3,…,…),只要构成态|Ψ_Ⅱ^(ab)>_q的两个不同的量子光场态中各对应模的强度(即平均光子数)和初始相位都不相等,亦即R_j^(a)≠R_j^(b)和φ_j^(a)≠φ_j^(b)(j=1,2,3,…,q),并且 ,则当满足一定的量子化条件(或者在一些闭区间内连续取值)时,态|Ψ_Ⅱ^(ab)>_q总可呈现出周期性变化的、任意偶数阶的等阶N次方Y压缩效应.2)在N=2p且p=2m+1(m=0,1,2,3,…,…)的条件下,若R_j^(a)=R_j^(b)和φ_j^(a)=φ_j^(b)(j=1,2,3,…,q),态|Ψ_Ⅱ^(ab)>_q则可呈现出等阶N次方Y压缩简并现象.
