A discrete mass transportation problem for infinitely many sites,and general representant systems for infinite families

A discrete mass transportation problem, studied by Kellerer, is extended to the case of infinitely many sites. An application to general representant systems is given, which generalizes M. Hall's extension of P. Hall's theorem to the case of infinite families of sets.     

On Bounds for Spectra of Operator Pencils in a Hilbert Space

A class of pencils(operator-valued functions of a complex argument) in a separeble Hilbert space is considered.Bounds for the spectra are derived.Applications to differential operators,integral operators with delay and in finite matrix pencils are discussed.     

Fundamental theorem of geometry without the 1-to-1 assumption

It is proved that any mapping of an -dimensional affine space over a division ring onto itself which maps every line into a line is semi-affine, if and . This result seems to be new even for the real affine spaces. Some further generalizations are also given. The paper is self-contained, modulo some basic terms and elementary facts concerning linear spaces and also - if the reader is interested in other than , , or - division rings.

     

Polarized neutron reflectivity and X-ray scattering measurements as tools to study properties of Pt/Co/Pt ultrathin layers irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses

ABSTRACT

We have used polarized neutron reflectivity, X-ray diffraction, X-ray reflectivity and magneto-optical Kerr effect in polar configuration to study the properties of ultrathin Pt/Co/Pt films. Structures consisting of a 5-nm thick Pt buffer, 3-nm thick Co layer and 5-nm thick Pt cover layer were deposited onto (0001)-oriented Al₂O₃ substrate by the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method. Irreversible modifications of film properties, resulting from its illumination by single femtosecond laser pulses, of duration of 40 fs and wavelength of 800 nm, were observed and analyzed. As prepared films exhibited magnetization in-plane, but after laser irradiation, the direction of magnetization was rotated to out-of-plane state. Formation of Co–Pt alloy phase caused by quasi-uniform film irradiation was demonstrated by the results of X-ray and neutron scattering measurements. Moreover, polarized neutron and X-ray reflectivity data showed that after illumination Co was distributed mostly in the area of nominal Co layer and Pt cover layer and its diffusion into the Pt buffer was less significant.     

New results on <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>11</Subscript> and <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis><Subscript>12</Subscript> lattices with applications to Grothendieck categories and torsion theories

In this paper, which is a continuation of our previous paper [T. Albu, M. Iosif, A. Tercan, The conditions (C _i ) in modular lattices, and applications, J. Algebra Appl. 15 (2016), http: dx.doi.org/10.1142/S0219498816500018], we investigate the latticial counterparts of some results about modules satisfying the conditions (C ₁₁) or (C ₁₂). Applications are given to Grothendieck categories and module categories equipped with hereditary torsion theories.
