Heavy Majorana neutrinos in e + e − → W + W−

In this paper we investigate the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the reaction e ⁺ e ^? → W ⁺ W ^?. We consider neutrino masses in the 1–10 TeV region. We show that at LEP II and NLC energies it is possible to use this processes to verify indirect evidence of heavy neutral particles with mixing angles of the order sin² α = 0.01. We discuss the unitarity restrictions that can be obtained for vector singlet and fermion-mirror-fermion models.     

A Lieb-Thirring Bound for a Magnetic Pauli Hamiltonian

A Lieb-Thirring-Sobolev type inequality for Pauli Hamiltonians with magnetic fields is derived. The bound is in terms of an effective field, whose energy is comparable to that of the magnetic field itself. An application to the stability of matter in magnetic fields is given. Influence of radiation on thin ZnS-Tb films

Changes in thin zinc-sulfide films under the action of the γ-radiation of Co⁶⁰ are studied by investigating electroluminescence spectra of terbium embedded in these films as a luminescent probe. It is shown that changes in the relation of the intensities of bands, a decrease in their halfwidth and the background component, and simplification of the spectrum are observed in a short-wave region of the Tb radiation spectrum that corresponds to⁵D₃→⁷F_j transitions. The same modification of the radiation spectrum is characteristic of ZnS films whose crystalline structure is ordered in the course of thermal annealing at a temperature of 350°C. Based on the analysis of the data obtained it is inferred that irradiating the ZnS films with small radiation doses of 10⁴–10⁵ rad leads to the ordering of their crystalline structure due to the elimination of one of the types of structural defects. The accurate dimensional measurements within small internal structures

This paper shows that the dimension of internal structure of a component can be measured remotely to a resolution better than 5 μm by use of the combination of high resolution optical microscopy and image processing.A specialised high resolution, long working distance and diffraction limited lens was used to image within the component. A series of digital images were made to map spatially the interior of the component. An edge detector was then used to localise the specific location of features in order that an accurate internal measurement could be made. A visualisation of the internal surface finish was also achieved.     

Mössbauer, X-ray, electrical and magnetic properties of lithium borosilicate glasses containing iron and manganese Part I. Mössbauer measurements

The effect of the replacement of MnO₂ by Fe₂O₃ on the oxidation states of iron in some lithium borosilicate glasses were studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. DTA and infrared measurements showed the presence of two glassy phases, one of them containing iron and the other manganese. The Mössbauer spectra were measured at room temperature for all the glass samples. The spectra revealed the presence of Fe ions only in ferric state in both tetrahedral and octahedral coordination. Also, it was observed that the ratio between the number of iron ions in both coordination states has not changed with the increase of MnO₂ content.     

Analytic solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the modified quartic oscillator

No analytic solutions of the Schrödinger equation are known for the quartic anharmonic oscillator. We show in this paper that there are closely related modified quartic oscillators with the potential depending on |x| for which analytic solutions for some states exist. These results can be extended to the higher order oscillators     

Resonance enhancement of diffuse scattering of x-rays in a waveguide heterostructure

The diffuse scattering of x rays in a four-layer waveguide-type heterostructure is investigated. The dynamic enhancement of diffuse scattering is detected experimentally in regions corresponding to the excitation of waveguide modes for both the incident and scattered waves. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. High power CW solid-state multilaser system

A laser system containing four CW Nd:YAG double-rod lasers, transforming optics and a fibre with input-output optics has been designed and investigated. It is shown that reduction of the beam parameter product of the non-Gaussian beams in the image space of the lens has made it possible to collect the emission of four lasers to the same fibre. Independent laser operation has provided the output power control in the range of 10–900 W with a stable light spot size on the input end of the fibre.
