An important problem in reliability is to define and estimate the optimal burn-in time. For bathtub shaped failure-rate lifetime
distributions, the optimal burn-in time is frequently defined as the point where the corresponding mean residual life function
achieves its maximum. For this point, we construct an empirical estimator and develop the corresponding statistical inferential
theory. Theoretical results are accompanied with simulation studies and applications to real data. Furthermore, we develop
a statistical inferential theory for the difference between the minimum point of the corresponding failure rate function and
the aforementioned maximum point of the mean residual life function. The difference measures the length of the time interval
after the optimal burn-in time during which the failure rate function continues to decrease and thus the burn-in process can
be stopped.

A general analytical theory is developed and numerical simulations are carried out of cylindrical plasma sources operating

We perform an experimental study on high-order harmonic generation (HHG) of aligned acetylene molecules induced by a 35-fs 800-nm strong laser field, by using a home-built HHG spectrometer. It is observed that the molecular HHG probability declines with increasing the laser ellipticity, which is in consistence with the deduction from the well-known tunneling-plus-rescattering scenario. By introducing a weak femtosecond laser pulse to nonadiabatically align the molecules, we investigated the molecular orbital effect on the HHG in both linearly and elliptically polarized driving laser fields. The results show that the harmonic intensity is maximum for the molecular axis aligned perpendicularly to the laser electric field. It indicates that both the highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO) and HOMO-1 contribute to the strong-field HHG of acetylene molecules. Our study should pave the way for understanding the interaction of molecules with ultrafast strong laser fields. 相似文献

We consider an inverse problem for the determination of a purely time-dependent source in a semilinear parabolic equation with a nonlocal boundary condition. An approximation scheme for the solution together with the well-posedness of the problem with the initial value u0 ∈ H1(Ω) is presented by means of the Rothe time-discretization method. Further approximation scheme via Rothe’s method is constructed for the problem when u0 ∈ L2(Ω) and the integral kernel in the nonlocal boundary condition is symmetric.
