The energetics and dynamics of unimolecular decompositions of C70+ and its noble gas endohedral cations, Ne@C70+ and Ar@C70+, have been studied using tandem mass spectrometry techniques. The high-resolution mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy (HR-MIKE) spectra for the unimolecular reactions of C70+, Ne@CC70+, and Ar@C70+ were recorded by scanning the electrostatic analyzer and using single-ion counting that was achieved by combination of an electron multiplier, amplifier/discriminator, and multichannel analyzer. These cations dissociate unimolecularly via loss of a C2 unit, and no endohedral atom is observed as fragment. The activation energies for C2 evaporation from Ne@C70+ and Ar@C70+ are lower than those for elimination of the endohedral noble gas atoms. The kinetic energy release distributions (KERDs) for the C2 evaporation have been measured and, by use of the finite heat bath theory (FHBT), the binding energies for the C2 emission have been deduced from the KERDs. The C2 evaporation energies increase in the order DeltaEvap(C70+) < DeltaEvap(Ne@C70+) < DeltaEvap(Ar@C70+), but no big difference in the cage binding was observed for C70+, Ne@C70+, and Ar@C70+, indicating incorporations of the Ne and Ar atoms into C70 contribute a little to the stability of C70 toward C2 loss, which is in good agreement with theoretical calculations but contrasts with the findings in their C60 analogues and in metallofullerenes that the decay energies of the filled fullerenes are much higher than those of the corresponding empty cages. 相似文献

This paper focuses on the interactions between cysteamine-stabilized CdTe nanocrystals [CdTe(CA) NCs] and thioglycolic-acid-stabilized CdTe nanocrystals [CdTe(TGA) NCs]. These interactions were examined by the absorption, continuous, and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the electrostatically mixed and the covalently linked NCs assemblies comprised of the oppositely surface charged CdTe(CA) and CdTe(TGA) NCs and by a comparison with those of the corresponding pristine NCs. The CdTe(CA)-CdTe(TGA) coupling is dictated by the surfactant spacer, ranging between 0.93 and 1.14 nm and by electrostatic and covalent interactions, enabling a F?rster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process among the NCs. The results revealed an excellent spectral overlap between the emission of the CdTe(TGA) NCs and the absorption of the CdTe(CA) NCs as well as a PL spectral red shift on the formation of electrostatic and covalent interactions. Furthermore, the measurements showed a lifetime ranging between 1.2 and 3 ns for the electrostatically mixed and the covalently linked assemblies, shorter than those of the pristine CdTe(CA) NCs and CdTe(TGA) NCs, both of which measured as approximately 5.5 ns. When CdTe(TGA) NCs performed as the most efficient donors, FRET rates of 10(10)-10(11) s(-1) were calculated for the electrostatically mixed NCs or covalently linked NCs. 相似文献

We analyze a model for the synchronization of nonlinear oscillators due to reactive coupling and nonlinear frequency pulling motivated by the physics of arrays of nanoscale oscillators. The mystery of diamond nucleation by energetic species is resolved via a special deposition scheme. The evolution of the precursor material for diamond nucleation and the development of the nanodiamond crystallites are visualized by high resolution electron microscopy and other spectroscopies. The diamond precipitation and growth are explained in terms of our recently proposed mechanism [Science 297, 1531 (2002)]]: (i) precipitation of sp(3) clusters a small fraction of which are perfect diamond; (ii) growth of diamond crystallites by preferential displacement of amorphous carbon atoms leaving diamond atoms intact. A detailed report is given of the theoretical work carried out by the author during recent years on problems connected with the energy spectrum of a disordered solid. The treatment is general, with indications of applications to particular problems, such as the lattice vibrational spectrum of an imperfect crystal and the electronic levels associated with impurity atoms. Particular attention is given to the behaviour of the density of states (spectral density) of both the levels derived from those of the perfect crystal and the impurity levels. OBJECTIVES: (1) To examine attitudes towards termination of pregnancy (TOP) among high-risk and non-high-risk (for cystic fibrosis) Arab-Muslims, and (2) to examine the effect of an intervention, which among other things related explicitly to TOP. METHODS: The study comprised three groups: (1) an intervention group at high risk for CF, which received community genetic counseling; (2) a control group at high risk for CF, and (3) a control group from the general population. The latter two groups were exposed to minimal intervention. Attitudes were measured two or three times during a 1-year period (for the control and intervention groups, respectively). RESULTS: Predictors of an affected fetus being considered a legitimate cause for TOP were religiosity, familiarity with an affected child, and benefits of the test. Predictors of individuals (hypothetically) choosing abortion in the case of an affected fetus were education and age. No change occurred in the attitudes of participants (either experimental or control groups) in the course of 1 year. CONCLUSIONS: Other possible intervention options are discussed, and specifically, the advantages of using opinion leaders such as clergy and medical staff. 相似文献

Comprehensive work has been performed by theoretical and numerical methods in order to study the steady state, transient and stability characteristics of a double diffusive natural circulation loop. It was found that the behavior of the flow in the system depends on the initial conditions and on the location of the state in the seven-parameter space of the thermal and saline Rayleigh numbers,Ra T ,Ra S , the modified Prandtl and Schmidt numbers,Pr, Sc, the dimensionless heat and mass transfer coefficients,H T ,H S , and the “aspect ratio” (between the height and width) of the loop, γ. Numerical results are presented here, showing the flow in each of the five regions formed in the stability chart. The steady state solutions include convection (constant velocity flow), conduction (no-flow) and periodic with constant amplitude and frequency. Two main new results were obtained: long term periodic oscillations where the amplitude is not symmetric around the conduction solution, and an overshoot of the velocity in transients before reaching the stable convection solutions. In the monotonic instability region of the conduction solution, convection solutions (constant velocity flow) develop, and in the global stability region the flow decays to the conduction solution (no flow), regardless of the initial conditions. 相似文献
