Micron Particles of AlN/Al: Efficient,Novel, and Reusable Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Synthesis of Bis(indolyl)methanes

The present work introduces for the first time the catalytic utility of micron particulate aluminium nitride (AlN/Al) as a novel and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes involving the electrophilic substitution of indoles on aldehydes. The catalyst is recyclable and works without any significant change in its catalytic activity.     

Synthesis of Some 2-(3-Alkyl/aryl-5-trifluoromethylpyrazol-1-yl)-4-(coumarin-3-yl)thiazoles as Novel Antibacterial Agents

Abstract

Herein, we describe a one-pot synthesis of some novel 2-(3-alkyl/aryl-5-trifluoromethylpyrazol-1-yl)-4-(coumarin-3-yl)thiazoles (6) involving the reaction of 3-alkyl/aryl-5-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-thiocarboxamides (3) with 3-bromoacetylcoumarins (5) in the presence of sodium carbonate in ethanol. Reaction of 3 with 5 in the absence of sodium carbonate, however, resulted in the formation of 2-(3-alkyl/aryl-5-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydropyrazol-1-yl)-4-(coumarin-3-yl)thiazoles, which were subsequently dehydrated to 6 by refluxing in ethanol in the presence of sodium carbonate. The structure of the synthesized compounds (6) was confirmed by infrared (IR), mass, ¹H NMR, and ¹³C NMR spectra and elemental analysis data. Newly synthesized compounds (6) showed moderate to good activity against Gram-positive bacteria.     

Synthesis,ABTS-Radical Scavenging Activity,and Antiproliferative and Molecular Docking Studies of Novel Pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline Derivatives

A new 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS)-radical scavenging and antiproliferative agents of pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline derivatives have been synthesized. An efficient method for the synthesis of 14 novel diversified pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoline derivatives has been described using 4-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)quinoline and different phenacyl bromides in acetone and followed by reacting with different acetylenes in dimethylformamide/K₂CO₃. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds was determined by infrared, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The in vitro antioxidant activity revealed that among all the tested compounds 5n exhibited maximum scavenging activity with ABTS. Compound 5b has showed good antiproliferative activity as an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase.     

Isolation and biological evaluation of chromone alkaloid dysoline,a new regioisomer of rohitukine from Dysoxylum binectariferum

The chromone alkaloid dysoline (1), a new regioisomer of rohitukine (2) along with rohitukine and rohitukine-N-oxide (3) were isolated from the stem barks of Dysoxylum binectariferum. The structure of dysoline (1) was determined by extensive 2D-NMR studies and the absolute configuration was established by NOESY and CD spectra. Dysoline (1) consisted of a 5,7-dihydroxy-2-methylchromone nucleus substituted with a 2′-hydroxylated N-Me piperidine ring at the C-6 position. Dysoline differs from rohitukine by the position of the piperidine ring on the chromone nucleus. Dysoline displayed promising cytotoxicity in HT1080 fibrosarcoma cells with an IC₅₀ of 0.21 μM, and also displayed significant inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6.     

Leak detection in a high-pressure heat exchanger system in a refinery using radiotracer technique

A radiotracer investigation was carried out in a diesel hydrotreater (DHDT) unit in a refinery for leak detection in a breech-lock heat exchanger system. The main objectives of the study were to identify the leaking heat exchanger in a system with six heat exchangers and estimate the leak rate. Bromine-82 as dibromobiphenyl was selected and used as radiotracer for the investigation. The radiotracer was instantaneously injected into the suction end of the feed pump line to the heat exchanger of the DHDT unit. The movement of the tracer was measured at strategically selected locations using NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors. Based upon the results of the radiotracer investigation, it was found that out of six heat exchangers, exchanger E-1F was leaking.     

Stopping and time reversing a light pulse using dynamic loss tuning of coupled-resonator delay lines

We introduce a light-stopping process that uses dynamic loss tuning in coupled-resonator delay lines. We demonstrate via numerical simulations that increasing the loss of selected resonators traps light in a zero group velocity mode concentrated in the low-loss portions of the delay line. The large dynamic range achievable for loss modulation should increase the light-stopping bandwidth relative to previous approaches based on refractive index tuning.     

Iodine-DMSO catalyzed chemoselective oxidative aromatization and deallylation,nondeallylation of aryl allyl ether of tetrahydro-β-carboline

We have developed a simple method for the chemoselective aromatization of tetrahydro-β-carboline with selective nondeallylation O-allyl groups in the presence of iodine (100 mol %) in dimethyl sulfoxide/H₂O₂. A convergent approach toward the oxidative aromatization with selective deallylation (deprotection) of O-allyl-tetrahydro-β-carboline using iodine in dimethyl sulfoxide/HCl has been described. The present protocol contains cheap catalyst, easy work up, normal reaction conditions, and high selectivity.

Novel one-pot synthesis of 4H-chromene derivatives using amino functionalized silica gel catalyst

A simple, efficient, and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of 4H-chromene derivatives was developed using well ordered and recoverable amino functionalized silica gel as a base catalyst. The 4H-chromene derivatives were obtained in short time and excellent yield(87%–96%) by three component reaction of aldehydes, malononitrile and cyclic 1,3-diketones in water at 70 8C.
