Real-time in situ x-ray studies of continuous Pb deposition on Si(111)-(7x7) at 180 K reveal an unusual growth behavior. A wetting layer forms first to cover the entire surface. Then islands of a fairly uniform height of about five monolayers form on top of the wetting layer and grow to fill the surface. The growth then switches to a layer-by-layer mode upon further deposition. This behavior of alternating layer and island growth can be attributed to spontaneous quantum phase separation based on a first-principles calculation of the system energy.  相似文献

Propagation characteristics of a segmented cladding fiber   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
We propose a novel optical fiber design that consists of a uniform core and a segmented cladding formed by alternate regions of high and low refractive indices in the azimuthal direction. The structure is analyzed by use of the radial effective-index method, and the propagation characteristics of the structure are studied. The fiber has a highly dispersive cladding and shows characteristics similar to those of photonic-crystal fibers and holey fibers. The novel fiber offers the possibility of single-mode operation over a wide range of wavelengths with a large core diameter.  相似文献

A high concentration (0.8 M) zirconium solution turned into a stable aqueous colloid of about 60 nm in size upon low temperature (96°C) incubation. Changing the acid concentration did not affect the colloidal growth rate nor the final colloid size much. However, the induction time before the rapid growth of colloidal particle could be altered. By limiting the incubation to just before the rapid growth of colloidal zirconia, and the addition of organic acids as surface modifiers, non-agglomerated primary crystallites (10 nm) of m-ZrO2 could be recovered. These modified primary crystallites could then be repeatedly flocculated and redispersed in water by adjusting the pH.  相似文献

We search for color singlet technirho and technipion production in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. These exotic technimesons are present in a model of walking technicolor. The signatures studied are lepton plus two jets plus E(T) and multijet final states. No excess of events is seen in either final state. We set an upper limit on the technirho production cross section and exclude a region in the technipion mass versus technirho mass plane.  相似文献

We report results from a study of events with a leading antiproton of beam momentum fraction 0.9057 GeV. Using the dijet events, we evaluate the diffractive structure function of the antiproton and compare it with expectations based on results obtained in diffractive deep inelastic scattering experiments at the DESY ep collider HERA.  相似文献

A device of multiple nano-TiO2 layers was proposed and fabricated to prevent a dye/nano-TiO2 region from serious photo-degradation. In this device, the top of the dye/TiO2 region was designed to be coated using sol-gel nano-TiO2 thin films to shield UV irradiation from the photo-degradation effect. The sol-gel TiO2 was prepared in a low temperature (75 °C) and verified as nano-sized particles and an anatase crystalline structure. Different devices of the multi-layer samples fabricated using different compositions of nano-TiO2 were produced and exposed for UV irradiation tests. Results show that the presence of the sol-gel TiO2 films coated on top of the dye/TiO2 region can significantly alleviate the dye photo-degradation under UV irradiation. This multi-layer device can effectively improve the photo-stability of the dye/TiO2 region in a UV-exposure environment.  相似文献

Constitutive modeling of cyclic relaxation and ratcheting (cumulative inelastic deformation) is developed on the basis of the distributed-element model (DEM). Although the original DEM is capable of describing general, elastic–plastic behavior for cyclically stabilized materials, it has the inadequacy of not being able to account for the effect of cyclic relaxation and ratcheting. By introducing the nonlinear kinematic hardening rule proposed by Armstrong and Frederick into element behavior of the DEM, the model becomes effective in characterizing the behavior of cyclic relaxation and ratcheting. Validation of the modified DEM is conducted by simulating cyclic behavior of various metal materials, including CS 1018, heat-treated rail steel, and Grade 60 steel. The results show that the modified DEM demonstrates realistic behavior of materials in both uniaxial and biaxial cyclic relaxation and ratcheting. Furthermore, detailed investigation of element behavior in the model provides us with additional insight into complex behavior and characteristics of materials in cyclic relaxation and ratcheting.  相似文献

The aerosol optical thickness (AOT) is an important parameter for understanding the radiative impact of aerosols. AOT based on lidar measurements is often limited by its finite detection range. In this paper, we have reported a method of fitting and iterative calculation to derive the extinction profile of background aerosols from 0 to 30 km at 532 nm, which is virtually the AOT of the entire atmosphere. The mean extinction derived from this method at the ground level tallies with visibility measurement and it is also consistent with the sun-photometer data, within experimental error. These data have been further treated to study the dust cases. For most of the cases, transmission losses were determined to estimate the extinction as well as lidar ratio. The result of the analysis shows that for background aerosols, a mean lidar ratio of 47±15 sr was found. For dust layers, a mean lidar ratio of 44±19 sr and an optical thickness of 0.53±0.49 were determined at 532 nm.  相似文献
