Large separation of magnetic levels and slow relaxation in metal complexes are desirable properties of single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Spin-phonon coupling (interactions of magnetic levels with phonons) is ubiquitous, leading to magnetic relaxation and loss of memory in SMMs and quantum coherence in qubits. Direct observation of magnetic transitions and spin-phonon coupling in molecules is challenging. We have found that far-IR magnetic spectra (FIRMS) of Co(PPh3)2X2 ( Co-X ; X=Cl, Br, I) reveal rarely observed spin-phonon coupling as avoided crossings between magnetic and u-symmetry phonon transitions. Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) gives phonon spectra. Calculations using VASP and phonopy programs gave phonon symmetries and movies. Magnetic transitions among zero-field split (ZFS) levels of the S=3/2 electronic ground state were probed by INS, high-frequency and -field EPR (HFEPR), FIRMS, and frequency-domain FT terahertz EPR (FD-FT THz-EPR), giving magnetic excitation spectra and determining ZFS parameters (D, E) and g values. Ligand-field theory (LFT) was used to analyze earlier electronic absorption spectra and give calculated ZFS parameters matching those from the experiments. DFT calculations also gave spin densities in Co-X , showing that the larger Co(II) spin density in a molecule, the larger its ZFS magnitude. The current work reveals dynamics of magnetic and phonon excitations in SMMs. Studies of such couplings in the future would help to understand how spin-phonon coupling may lead to magnetic relaxation and develop guidance to control such coupling.  相似文献

We show that if A arises as an H-module algebra via an inner faithful H-action, then H must be a group algebra. This answers a question of E. Kirkman and J. The first example of a bifunctional organocatalyst assembled through dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) is described. The catalyst is based on reversible imine chemistry and can catalyze the Morita–Baylis–Hillman (MBH) reaction of enones with aldehydes or N‐tosyl imines. Furthermore, these dynamic catalysts were shown to be optimizable through a systemic screening approach, in which large mixtures of catalyst structures were generated, and the optimal catalyst could be directly identified by using dynamic deconvolution. This strategy allowed one‐pot synthesis and in situ evaluation of several potential catalysts without the need to separate, characterize, and purify each individual structure. The systems were furthermore shown to catalyze and re‐equilibrate their own formation through a previously unknown thiourea‐catalyzed transimination process.  相似文献

Topological patterns on polymer surfaces can significantly alter and control adhesion. In this study, the effect of surface wrinkles on a spherical surface on adhesion has been studied. Surface wrinkling induced by swelling of a crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane elastomer constrained by a stiff, thin surface layer (silicate) is used to produce topographic features of various length scales over a large curved area. By controlling the properties of the stiff layer and the applied strain conditions, surface wrinkles of varying amplitude and wavelength are obtained. The effect of wrinkle morphology on adhesion is quantified, and the results display a transition from enhancement of adhesion to decrease depending upon wrinkle dimensions. A simple phenomenological model is proposed that describes the change of adhesion behavior as a function of wrinkle morphology. Our results provide a critical understanding toward tuning the adhesion behavior of nonplanar surfaces consisting of periodic topographic structures. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Deoxynivalenol (DON), also known as vomitoxin, belongs to a class of naturally occurring mycotoxins produced by Fusarium spp. DON, 12, 13-epoxy-3,7 trihydroxytrichothec-9-en-8-one, is one of the most frequently detected mycotoxins in agricultural commodities worldwide. A method consisting of extraction, filtration, column cleanup, and RP-HPLC-UV separation and quantitation was validated for the determination of DON in grains (rice and barley), grain products (whole wheat flour, white flour, wheat germ, and wheat bran), and processed foods (bread, breakfast cereals, and pretzels). A 25 g test portion was extracted with 100 mL acetonitrile-water (84 + 16, v/v). After blending for 3 min, the supernatant was applied to a multifunctional column (MycoSep 225). The purified filtrate (2 mL) was evaporated to dryness and redissolved in the mobile phase. The toxins were then subjected to RP-HPLC-UV analysis. The accuracy and repeatability characteristics of the method were determined. Recoveries of DON added at levels ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 microg/g for all test matrixes were from 75 to 98%. SD and RSD(r) ranged from 0.7 to 11.6% and 0.9 to 12.7%, respectively. Within-laboratory HorRat values were from 0.1 to 0.7 for all matrixes analyzed. The method was found to meet AOAC method performance criteria for grains, grain products, and processed foods. The identity of DON in naturally contaminated test sample extracts was confirmed by HPLC/MS/MS analysis.  相似文献

Protein film electrochemistry (PFE) was utilized to characterize the catalytic activity and oxidative inactivation of a bidirectional [NiFe]-hydrogenase (HoxEFUYH) from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. PFE provides precise control of the redox potential of the adsorbed enzyme so that its activity can be monitored under changing experimental conditions as current. The properties of HoxEFUYH are different from those of both the standard uptake and the "oxygen-tolerant" [NiFe]-hydrogenases. First, HoxEFUYH is biased toward proton reduction as opposed to hydrogen oxidation. Second, despite being expressed under aerobic conditions in vivo, HoxEFUYH is clearly not oxygen-tolerant. Aerobic inactivation of catalytic hydrogen oxidation by HoxEFUYH is total and nearly instantaneous, producing two inactive states. However, unlike the Ni-A and Ni-B inactive states of standard [NiFe]-hydrogenases, both of these states are quickly (<90 s) reactivated by removal of oxygen and exposure to reducing conditions. Third, proton reduction continues at 25-50% of the maximal rate in the presence of 1% oxygen. Whereas most previously characterized [NiFe]-hydrogenases seem to be preferential hydrogen oxidizing catalysts, the cyanobacterial enzyme works effectively in both directions. This unusual catalytic bias as well as the ability to be quickly reactivated may be essential to fulfilling the physiological role in cyanobacteria, organisms expected to experience swings in cellular reduction potential as they switch between aerobic conditions in the light and dark anaerobic conditions. Our results suggest that the uptake [NiFe]-hydrogenases alone are not representative of the catalytic diversity of [NiFe]-hydrogenases, and the bidirectional heteromultimeric enzymes may serve as valuable models to understand the diverse mechanisms of tuning the reactivity of the hydrogen activating site.  相似文献

We report that dye-doped fluorescent silica nanoparticles (FSNPs) are highly efficient labels for glycans. Mono- and oligo-saccharides were conjugated to FSNPs using a general photocoupling chemistry. FSNP-labeled glycans were applied to image and detect bacteria, and to study carbohydrate-lectin interactions on a lectin microarray.  相似文献
