Spectrum of γ-Fluids: A statistical derivation

The spectrum of massless bosonic and fermionic fluids satisfying the equation of statep=(–1) is derived using elementary statistical methods. As a limiting case, the Lorentz-invariant spectrum of the vacuum (=0,p=–) is deduced. These results are in agreement with our earlier derivation for bosons using thermodynamics and semiclassical considerations.     

222Rn content and234U/238U activity ratio in groundwaters

Geochemical radioanalytical studies of groundwater were performed in the valleys of Villa de Reyes and San Luis Potosi (Mexico). The experiments were designed to measure radon and uranium content and²³⁴U/²³⁸U activity ratio in groundwater samples taken from wells in these sites and at the Nuclear Center of Salazar, Mexico.²²²Rn content varied depending on the sample source, reaching a maximum value of 235 pCi/l; uranium concentration results were less than 1 g/1 and²³⁴U/²³⁸U activity ratios were close to equilibrium.     

A Note on the Subcritical Two Dimensional Keller-Segel System

The existence of solution for the 2D-Keller-Segel system in the subcritical case, i.e. when the initial mass is less than 8π, is reproved. Instead of using the entropy in the free energy and free energy dissipation, which was used in the proofs (Blanchet et al. in SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 46:691–721, 2008; Electron. J. Differ. Equ. Conf. 44:32, 2006 (electronic)), the potential energy term is fully utilized by adapting Delort’s theory on 2D incompressible Euler equation (Delort in J. Am. Math. Soc. 4:553–386, 1991).     

Gårding's Theory of Hyperbolic Polynomials

This paper presents a simple, self‐contained account of Gårding's theory of hyperbolic polynomials, together with a recent convexity result of Bauschke‐Güler‐Lewis‐Sendov and an inequality of Gurvits. This account begins by establishing some new results. The first concerns the existence of a pointwise arrangement of the eigenvalues so that they become global real analytic functions. The second asserts that the associated “branches” are independent of the choice of hyperbolic direction. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Structured populations,cell growth and measure valued balance laws

A well-posedness theory of measure valued solutions to balance laws is presented. Nonlinear semigroups are constructed by means of the operator splitting algorithm. This approach allows to separate the differential terms from the integral ones, leading to a significant simplification of the proofs. Continuous dependence with respect to parameters is also shown. The whole framework allows a unified approach to a variety of structured population models, providing to each of them the basic well posedness and stability results.
