The precise guidance to different ions across the biological channels is essential for many biological processes. An artificial nanopore system will facilitate the study of the ion‐transport mechanism through nanosized channels and offer new views for designing nanodevices. Herein we reveal that a 2.5 nm‐sized, fullerene‐shaped molecular cluster Li48+mK12(OH)m[UO2(O2)(OH)]60?(H2O)n (m≈20 and n≈310) ( U60 ) shows selective permeability to different alkali ions. The subnanometer pores on the water–ligand‐rich surface of U60 are able to block Rb+ and Cs+ ions from passing through, while allowing Na+ and K+ ions, which possess larger hydrated sizes, to enter the interior space of U60 . An interestingly high entropy gain during the binding process between U60 and alkali ions suggests that the hydration shells of Na+/K+ and U60 are damaged during the interaction. The ion selectivity of U60 is greatly influenced by both the morphologies of the surface nanopores and the dynamics of the hydration shells.  相似文献

Analyte quantification in highly scattering media such as tissue, blood, and other biological fluids is challenging using conventional spectroscopic methods. Ultrasound easily penetrates these opaque samples, yet currently provides little chemical information. We have developed a general approach for creating hydrogel biosensors based on antibody-linked cellulose polymers. Target recognition induces changes to the sensor stiffness and size, which is accompanied by characteristic changes to a measured ultrasonic frequency profile. Using this technique, nM sensitivity for acetaminophen is demonstrated in a series of biofluids including whole blood, blood plasma, saliva, and urine. Likewise, this methodology is attractive for point of care diagnostics due to the short measurement time, simple methodology which excludes pretreatment of samples, and has minimal chemical or buffer requirements.  相似文献

Preselection of compounds that are more likely to induce a phenotype can increase the efficiency and reduce the costs for model organism screening. To identify such molecules, we screened ~81,000 compounds in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and identified ~7500 that inhibit cell growth. Screening these growth-inhibitory molecules across a diverse panel of model organisms resulted in an increased phenotypic hit-rate. These data were used to build a model to predict compounds that inhibit yeast growth. Empirical and in silico application of the model enriched the discovery of bioactive compounds in diverse model organisms. To demonstrate the potential of these molecules as lead chemical probes, we used chemogenomic profiling in yeast and identified specific inhibitors of lanosterol synthase and of stearoyl-CoA 9-desaturase. As community resources, the ~7500 growth-inhibitory molecules have been made commercially available and the computational model and filter used are provided.  相似文献

The primary purpose of this classroom experiment was to examine the effectiveness of concrete (hands‐on) manipulatives as compared with virtual (computer‐based) manipulatives on student review of fraction concepts in third grade and introduction of symmetry concepts in fourth grade. A pretest–posttest design was employed with a sample of 91 third‐grade students and 54 fourth‐grade students who were randomly assigned to complete a lesson using either concrete or virtual manipulatives. Students used a variety of manipulative materials during the lessons. Results of the posttest suggest that student learning was unchanged by lesson condition.  相似文献

It is well known that red blood cell scattering has an impact on whole blood oximetry as well as in vivo retinal oxygen saturation measurements. The goal of this study was to quantify the impact of small angle forward scatter on whole blood oximetry for scattering angles found in retinal oximetry light paths. Transmittance spectra of whole blood were measured in two different experimental setups: one that included small angle scatter in the transmitted signal and one that measured the transmitted signal only, at absorbance path lengths of 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 μm. Oxygen saturation was determined by multiple linear regression in the 520-600 nm wavelength range and compared between path lengths and experimental setups. Mean calculated oxygen saturation differences between setups were greater than 10% at every absorbance path length. The deviations to the Beer-Lambert absorbance model had different spectral dependences between experimental setups, with the highest deviations found in the 520-540 nm range when scatter was added to the transmitted signal. These results are consistent with other models of forward scatter that predict different spectral dependences of the red blood cell scattering cross-section and haemoglobin extinction coefficients in this wavelength range.  相似文献

This mini-review describes recent work in the field of glycopolymer synthesis, with a focus on methods that have employed “click chemistry” and controlled polymerization methodology. A variety of carbohydrates with clickable groups such as azide, alkyne, and thiol moieties provide new routes to glycopolymers. Several studies use copper catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions to synthesize glycomonomers or to incorporate carbohydrates into a clickable polymeric backbone. Alternatively, there are many thiol based click reactions which provide metal-free synthesis, which are discussed in details.  相似文献

The isomorphous compounds NH(4)[(UO(6))(2)(UO(2))(9)(GeO(4))(GeO(3)(OH))] (1), K[(UO(6))(2)(UO(2))(9)(GeO(4))(GeO(3)(OH))] (2), Li(3)O[(UO(6))(2)(UO(2))(9)(GeO(4))(GeO(3)(OH))] (3), and Ba[(UO(6))(2)(UO(2))(9)(GeO(4))(2)] (4) were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction at 220 °C. The structures were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction and refined to R(1) = 0.0349 (1), 0.0232 (2), 0.0236 (3), 0.0267 (4). Each are trigonal, P(3)1c. 1: a = 10.2525(5), c = 17.3972(13), V = 1583.69(16) ?(3), Z = 2; 2: a = 10.226(4), c = 17.150(9), V = 1553.1(12) ?(3), Z = 2; 3: a = 10.2668(5), c = 17.0558(11), V = 1556.94(15) ?(3), Z = 2; 4: a = 10.2012(5), c = 17.1570(12), V = 1546.23(15) ?(3), Z = 2. There are three symmetrically independent U sites in each structure, two of which correspond to typical (UO(2))(2+) uranyl ions and the other of which is octahedrally coordinated by six O atoms. One of the uranyl ions donates a cation-cation interaction, and accepts a different cation-cation interaction. The linkages between the U-centered polyhedra result in a relatively dense three-dimensional framework. Ge and low-valence sites are located within cavities in the framework of U-polyhedra. Chemical, thermal, and spectroscopic characterizations are provided.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the reversible reaction between CO(2)(aq) and monoethanolamine (MEA) has been investigated using stopped-flow spectrophotometry by following the pH changes during the reactions with colored acid-base indicators. Multivariate global analysis of both the forward and backward kinetic measurements for the reaction of CO(2)(aq) with MEA yielded the rate and equilibrium constants, including the protonation constant of MEA carbamate, for the temperature range of 15-45 °C. Analysis of the rate and equilibrium constants in terms of the Arrhenius, Eyring, and van't Hoff relationships gave the relevant thermodynamic parameters. In addition, the rate and equilibrium constants for the slow, reversible reaction of bicarbonate with MEA are reported at 25.0 °C. At high pH, reactions of the amine with CO(2) and with bicarbonate are significant.  相似文献

The dynamic electronic structure of atoms and molecules can be directly observed by means of the (e, 2e) reaction, which measures the distribution of energies and momenta of two electrons in coincidence after a knockout reaction initiated by an electron beam of known momentum incident on a molecular gas target. The molecular state for each event is identified by the electron separation energy. The recoil momentum for each event is known from the difference of measured initial and final momenta. It has been verified that values of this momentum are equal under suitable conditions to the momentum of the electron in the target immediately before knockout. Thus the spherically-averaged electron momentum distribution for each molecular orbital is measured. This is directly related to molecular orbitals calculated by the methods of quantum chemistry. Properties obtained by this method for different types of molecules are discussed.  相似文献
