Recent advances in dynamic force microscopy show that it is possible to measure the forces between atomically sharp tips and particular atomic positions on surfaces as a function of distance. However, on most ionic surfaces, the positive and negative ions can so far not be distinguished. In this paper, we use the CaF2(111) surface, where atomic resolution force microscopy has allowed identification of the positions of the Ca2+ and F- ions in the obtained images, to demonstrate that short-range interaction forces can be measured selectively above chemically identified surface sites. Combining experimental and theoretical results allows a quantification of the strength and distance dependence of the interaction of a tip-terminating cluster with particular surface ions and reveals details of cluster and surface relaxation. Further development of this approach will provide new insight into mechanisms of chemical bond formation between clusters, cluster deposition at surfaces, processes in adhesion and tribology, and single atom manipulation with the force microscope.  相似文献

Surface induced local d-band states in the upper 4d band between ~ 4 and ~ 5.2 eV below EFermi have been identified for polycrystalline silver films in photoemission experiments using synchroton radiation. A thin over-coat (10 å) by an Al film leads to a depression of these surface induced local states whereas a change from s- to p-polarized excitation leads to an enhancement. Deposition of additional silver (~ 3 Å) at 120 K induces additional emission 4.2 eV below EF with a FWHM of only ~ 0.4 eV.  相似文献

Combined measurements of electron excited N4,5 Auger spectra and photoelectron emission on clean and oxidized Gd lead to a distinction between Auger lines originating from 4d → continuum and 4d → 4? resonance excitations. Several Auger structures are identified as due to the direct recombination of 4d94?8 states with the 4f and valence electrons. The shape of the most prominent Auger line for oxidized Gd agrees perfectly with the Fano profile of the 4? photoemission intensity.  相似文献

Hollow microspheres featuring a hybrid lipid-cation multilamellar shell are prepared by hydration of a nucleoside based amphiphile with an aqueous solution containing either actinide or lanthanide salts. The physico-chemical data collected clearly indicate that the formation of these microspheres is a consequence of the following concomitant stabilizing factors: (i) hydrophobic interactions, (ii) nucleobase dimer formation and (iii) phosphate/f-block element salt binding.  相似文献

Hybrid specimens of metal and fibre-reinforced polymer are applied in automotive and aerospace industry. The simulation and analysis of damage of such engineering structures is the focus of this research. The investigation includes a computation of the extension of single lap tensile specimen, produced by ultrasonic metal welding. The specimen is manufactured from CF-PA66 - fibre-reinforced polymer and AlMg3 (AA5754), which is used as a metallic joining partner. The aluminium substrate is treated as an elastoplastic material. The polymer composite generally shows an orthotropic elastic behaviour. The interface material has been numerically modeled as an elastoplastic material with linear hardening, coupled with Lemaitre-type damage. The finite element method is used for the investigation of so-called interface elements. The geometry of the interface is a consequence of the welding sonotrode geometry. The behaviour of specimens with square and ring interface geometry are analysed. The influence of the interface geometry on the mechanical properties of the joint is shown. The increase of the damage parameter and the development of failure are described for both cases. (© 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Abstract

Breath tests using 13C-labelled substrates require the measurement of 13CO2/12CO2 ratio in breath gas samples. Next to isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), which is very sensitive but also complex and expensive, alternatively isotope selective nondispersive infrared spectrometry (NDIRS) can be used to determine the 13CO2/12CO2 ratio in expired breath. In this study we compared NDIRS- with IRMS-results to investigate whether the less expensive and very simply to operate NDIRS works as reliable as IRMS. For this purpose we applicated 1-13C-Phenylalanine to patients with advanced liver cirrhosis and healthy volunteers and took duplicated breath samples for IRMS and NDIRS at selected time points. Our data show a good correlation between these two methods for a small number of samples as required for simple breath tests. Longer series, where repeated measurements are required on the NDIRS instrument lead to a decreasing correlation. This indicates the superiority of IRMS concerning 13CO2-kinetics over longer time periods.  相似文献

Oxides have become a key ingredient for new concepts of electronic devices. To a large extent, this is due to the profusion of new physics and novel functionalities arising from ultrathin oxide films and at oxide interfaces. We present here a perspective on selected topics within this vast field and focus on two main issues. The first part of this review is dedicated to the use of ultrathin films of insulating oxides as barriers for tunnel junctions. In addition to dielectric non-magnetic epitaxial barriers, which can produce tunneling magnetoresistances in excess of a few hundred percent, we pay special attention to the possibility of exploiting the multifunctional character of some oxides in order to realize ‘active’ tunnel barriers. In these, the conductance across the barrier is not only controlled by the bias voltage and/or the electrodes magnetic state, but also depends on the barrier ferroic state. Some examples include spin-filtering effects using ferro- and ferrimagnetic oxides, and the possibility of realizing hysteretic, multi-state junctions using ferroelectric barriers. The second part of this review is devoted to novel states appearing at oxide interfaces. Often completely different from those of the corresponding bulk materials, they bring about novel functionalities to be exploited in spintronics and electronics architectures. We review the main mechanisms responsible for these new properties (such as magnetic coupling, charge transfer and proximity effects) and summarize some of the most paradigmatic phenomena. These include the formation of high-mobility two-dimensional electron gases at the interface between insulators, the emergence of superconductivity (or ferromagnetism) at the interface between non-superconducting (or non-ferromagnetic) materials, the observation of magnetoelectric effects at magnetic/ferroelectric interfaces or the effects of the interplay and competing interactions at all-oxide ferromagnetic/superconducting interfaces. Finally, we link up the two reviewed research fields and emphasize that the tunneling geometry is particularly suited to probe novel interface effects at oxide barrier/electrode interfaces. We close by giving some directions toward tunneling devices exploiting novel oxide interfacial phenomena.  相似文献
