We report side chain urethane–methacrylate comb polymers based on the renewable resource cardanol and its saturated analogue 3‐pentadecyl phenol and their self‐assembly into pores, spheres, vesicles, tubes, and so forth. The monomers were synthesized in one pot by coupling 1 equiv. of isophorone diisocyanate with 1 equiv. of cardanol/pentadecyl phenol followed by coupling with 1 equiv. of hydroxyethyl methacrylate. They were polymerized free radically using benzoyl peroxide as the initiator and were characterized by NMR and FTIR, and their molecular weights were determined by gel permeation chromatography. The unique polymer design had sites for self‐organization via hydrogen bonding of the side chain urethane units, π–π stacking interactions of the aromatic units as well as interdigitation of the long C15 alkyl side chains in the polymer. The morphologies of solvent cast polymer films were studied using microscopic techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The polymers exhibited three‐dimensional honeycomb morphology in CHCl3, whereas in tetrahydrofuran, they formed spheres. The direct cardanol‐derived polymer PCIH showed a tendency for multiple morphologies such as spheres and tubes in tetrahydrofuran. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanoparticles of nickel ferrite have been synthesized by the sol–gel method and the effect of grain size on its structural and magnetic properties have been studied in detail. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed that all the samples are single phasic possessing the inverse spinel structure. Grain size of the sol–gel synthesized powders has been determined from the XRD data and the strain graph. A grain size of 9 nm was observed for the as prepared powders of NiFe2O4 obtained through the sol–gel method. It was also observed that strain was induced during the firing process. Magnetization measurements have been carried out on all the samples prepared in the present series. It was found that the specific magnetization of the nanosized NiFe2O4 powders was lower than that of the corresponding coarse-grained counterparts and decreased with a decrease in grain size. The coercivity of the sol–gel synthesized NiFe2O4 nanoparticles attained a maximum value when the grain size was 15 nm and then decreased as the grain size was increased further.  相似文献

Functional polystyrene (PS) crosslinked microbeads were developed by dispersion polymerization as fluorescent molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) having cavities with specific recognition sites. The functional azobenzene molecule modified with pyridine was self‐assembled with Pyrenebutyric acid (template molecules), and introduced during the second stage of dispersion polymerization of polystyrene. The template molecule was removed from MIP by Soxhlet using acetonitrile as solvent. Non imprinted polymer (NIP) having no template was also synthesized for comparative study. Fluorescence spectroscopy could be used as a tool to derive insight into the location of the template molecules on the MIP or NIP. The template molecules were adsorbed on the surface of the NIPs during binding studies, which was evidenced from the pyrene excimeric emission observed at 440 nm. The template binding efficiency of the NIPs were much lower compared to MIPs. Pyrene emission from MIP upon rebinding showed typical monomeric emission in the 375–395 nm range, confirming its location in isolated cavities. In rebinding studies of the template molecules, the MIPs selectively took up the template for which the cavity was designed, which demonstrated their selectivity towards template molecules. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pyrene was incorporated as pendant unit to side‐chain urethane methacrylate polymers having a short ethyleneoxy or a long polyethyleneoxy spacer segment. The short‐spacer pyrene urethane methacrylate was also incorporated either as block or random copolymer (1:9) along with polystyrene. The excimer emission was observed to be different for different polymers with the random copolymer exhibiting the lowest efficiency. But, the total quantum yield was highest (? = 0.58) for random copolymer due to the high emission coefficient of monomer compared to that of excimer. The polymer dynamics were compared by steady state emission and fluorescence decay in THF or THF/water (9:1) solvent mixture and films. The solid state decay profile showed decay without a rise time indicating presence of ground state aggregates. In THF/water (9:1), the decay profile at the excimer emission (500 nm) showed a rise time indicating dynamic excimers. The evolution of excimeric emission centred ~430 or ~480 nm as a function of temperature was also studied in THF/water (9:1). The IE/IM ratio for the λ343 nm excitation exhibited steady increase with temperature with the block copolymer PS‐b‐PIHP exhibiting the highest ratio and highest rate of increase; whereas, the random copolymer PS‐r‐PIHP had the lowest IE/IM ratios. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We proposed a passive method to distinguish and to estimate density of the Cyanobacteria (Cyanophyceae) in a mixed population by measuring the spectral absorption of sample waters, based on two step linear regression analysis. Natural freshwater usually contains a few species of algae and dissolved organic carbon (DOC). In the experiment, we picked out four typical algal groups characterized by their own colors, Cyanophycaeae or blue-green alga, Chlorophyceae or green alga, and Bacillariophyceae and Dinophyceae or brown algae. In the first step, for each of the pure sample waters which contained only one of these elemental substances, dependence of spectral characteristic on its density was determined using simple linear regression analysis. Resultant spectral characteristics which we call gradient vectors were used to estimate spectral absorption of mixed sample waters containing the four elementary algae and DOC by multiple linear regression analysis. This method offers new perspectives for identification and estimation of density of blue-green algae and other unialgal species in a mixed population.  相似文献

The proteolytic activity produced by aBacillus subtilis isolated from a hot spring was investigated. Maximum protease production was obtained after 38 h of fermentation. Effects of various carbon and nitrogen sources indicate the requirement of starch and bacteriological peptone to be the best inducers for maximum protease production. Requirement for phosphorus was very evident, and the protease was secreted over a wide range of pH 5–11. The partially purified enzyme was stable at 60°C for 30 min. Calcium ions were effective in stabilizing the enzyme, especially at higher temperature. The enzyme was extremely salt tolerant and retained 100% activity in 5M NaCl over 96 h. The molecular weight of the purified enzymes as determined by SDS-PAGE was 28,000. The enzyme was completely inactivated by PMSF, but little affected by urea, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and sodium tripoly phosphate.  相似文献

Blood is a valuable but perishable community resource. Regional blood centers coordinate the blood drawing and inventory policies of the hospital blood banks in a region for more efficient use of the resource. This study used a simulation model to analyze the costs and effects of several different operational policies for a regional blood center. Simulated experiments were carried out in four areas: (1) increasing the amount of blood available, (2) changing the number of delivery vehicles, (3) comparing two types of inventory consignment policies (shipping blood to hospitals with a recall privilege and frequent redistribution of blood amongst regional hospitals) to a direct-sale, no-redistribution policy, and (4) examining the effect of sending fresher blood supplies as inventories to hospitals with lower probabilities of transfusion. The results of the third experiment are presented in detail. It was found that periodic redistribution of the regional inventory yielded lower expiration rates and lower shortage rates. Phytochemical analysis of the leaves of Garcinia travancorica, a hitherto uninvestigated endemic species to the Western Ghats of south India, resulted in isolation and characterisation of the polyisoprenylated benzophenones 7-epi-nemorosone (1) and garcinol (2) along with biflavonoids GB-1a (3), GB-1 (4), GB-2 (5), morelloflavone (6) and morelloflavone-7″-O-β-d-glycoside or fukugiside (7). The compounds were identified using various spectroscopic techniques, mainly through NMR and MS. The methanol extract and the biflavonoids 3, 4, 5 and 7 showed potential in vitro antioxidant activities. The IC50 value of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of compound 7 was 8.34 ± 2.12 μg/mL, comparable to that of standard ascorbic acid (3.2 ± 0.50 μg/mL). In the superoxide radical scavenging assay, compound 7 gave IC50 value of 6.95 ± 1.33 μg/mL close to standard ascorbic acid with IC50 value of 5.8 ± 0.25 μg/mL. Validated HPTLC estimation revealed G. travancorica as a rich source of morelloflavone-7″-O-β-d-glycoside (7.12% dry wt. leaves).  相似文献
