Ugi-type four-component reaction for a novel synthesis of 5-oxo-perhydrofuro[3,2-b]pyran carboxylate derivatives

The four-component coupling (4CC) of sugar hydroxyaldehyde, Meldrum’s acid, isocyanide, and a secondary alcohol in dichloromethane has been accomplished at room temperature in a highly stereoselective manner to produce a novel class of carbohydrate derivatives, 5-oxo-perhydrofuro[3,2-b]pyrans in good yields with trans-selectivity. The stereochemistry of the products was assigned by various NMR experiments.     

Determination of selenomethionine by high performance liquid chromatography-direct hydride generation-atomic absorption spectrometry

A simple, reliable, trace determination of selenomethionine (Semet) based on a direct hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometric method was developed using sodium tetrahydroborate (0.3% in 0.2% NaOH) and hydrochloric acid (3 M). The method excluded any chemical pretreatment prior to hydride generation (HG). The optimized HG system was successfully coupled with the HPLC system. The detection limit (3σ of blank; n=5), reproducibility (R.S.D. of three successive analyses/day, performed on three different days), and repeatability (R.S.D. of three successive analyses) of the method were 1.08 ng ml⁻¹, 9.8% for 9.04 ng ml⁻¹ and 2.1–9.5% for 30.0–1.27 ng ml⁻¹ Semet as Se (standards prepared in Milli-Q water). Calibration graph was linear up to 30 ng ml⁻¹. This HPLC-HG-AAS method is very promising and successfully determined Semet (spiked) in human urine.     

Stability for Properly Quasiconvex Vector Optimization Problem

The aim of this paper is to study the stability aspects of various types of solution set of a vector optimization problem both in the given space and in its image space by perturbing the objective function and the feasible set. The Kuratowski?CPainlevé set-convergence of the sets of minimal, weak minimal and Henig proper minimal points of the perturbed problems to the corresponding minimal set of the original problem is established assuming the objective functions to be (strictly) properly quasi cone-convex.     

Intermediates involved in serotonin oxidation catalyzed by Cu bound Aβ peptides

The degradation of neurotransmitters is a hallmark feature of Alzheimer''s disease (AD). Copper bound Aβ peptides, invoked to be involved in the pathology of AD, are found to catalyze the oxidation of serotonin (5-HT) by H₂O₂. A combination of EPR and resonance Raman spectroscopy reveals the formation of a Cu(ii)–OOH species and a dimeric, EPR silent, Cu₂O₂ bis-μ-oxo species under the reaction conditions. The Cu(ii)–OOH species, which can be selectively formed in the presence of excess H₂O₂, is the reactive intermediate responsible for 5-HT oxidation. H₂O₂ produced by the reaction of O₂ with reduced Cu(i)–Aβ species can also oxidize 5-HT. Both these pathways are physiologically relevant and may be involved in the observed decay of neurotransmitters as observed in AD patients.

The mononuclear copper hydroperoxo species (Cu(ii)–OOH) of Cu–Aβ is the active oxidant responsible for serotonin oxidation by Cu–Aβ in the presence of physiologically relevant oxidants like O₂ and H₂O₂, which can potentially cause oxidative degradation of neurotransmitters, a marker of Alzheimer''s disease.     

The Near Ultra-Yiolet Absorption Spectrum of Para-Fujoro Phenetole Vapour

Abstract

The near ultra-violet absorption spectrum of parafluoro phenetole has been studied in vapour phase. About 135 red degraded Bands have been measured. These have been explained in terms of five ground state (187, 258, 346, 633 and 855 cm¹) and seven excited state (151, 306, 527, 816, 966, 1279 and 1328 cm^?1) fundamental frequencies. A red shift of 1243 cm^?1 of (0,0) hand relative to that of Phenetole is also observed.     

Tunable middle infrared radiation with HgGa2S4 crystal

Optical properties of orange phased HgGa₂S₄ crystal is investigated. Generation of tunable middle infrared radiation by second harmonic of tunable CO₂ laser radiation has been demonstrated. Second harmonic conversion efficiency with respect to other infrared crystal has also been discussed.     

Universal canonical entropy for gravitating systems

The thermodynamics of general relativistic systems with boundary, obeying a Hamiltonian constraint in the bulk, is determined solely by the boundary quantum dynamics, and hence by the area spectrum. Assuming, for large area of the boundary, (a) an area spectrum as determined by non-perturbative canonical quantum general relativity (NCQGR), (b) an energy spectrum that bears a power law relation to the area spectrum, (c) an area law for the leading order microcanonical entropy, leading thermal fluctuation corrections to the canonical entropy are shown to be logarithmic in area with a universal coefficient. Since the microcanonical entropy also has universal logarithmic corrections to the area law (from quantum space-time fluctuations, as found earlier) the canonical entropy then has a universal form including logarithmic corrections to the area law. This form is shown to be independent of the index appearing in assumption (b). The index, however, is crucial in ascertaining the domain of validity of our approach based on thermal equilibrium.     

Solvent extraction of silver(I) with amberlite-LA-2 using110mAg as tracer

The use of Amberlite-LA-2, a high molecular weight secondary amine, for the radiochemical solvent extraction of Ag(I) present as anionic thiosulfato complex at pH 3 is described. The effects of different parameters on the extraction and preconcentration have been studied in detail. The method was successfully applied in the determination of silver in several synthetic mixutres and also in a few medicinal samples.     

Averaging Oscillations with Small Fractional Damping and Delayed Terms

We demonstrate the method of averaging for conservative oscillators which may be strongly nonlinear, under small perturbations including delayed and/or fractional derivative terms. The unperturbed systems studied here include a harmonic oscillator, a strongly nonlinear oscillator with a cubic nonlinearity, as well as one with a nonanalytic nonlinearity. For the latter two cases, we use an approximate realization of the asymptotic method of averaging, based on harmonic balance. The averaged dynamics closely match the full numerical solutions in all cases, verifying the validity of the averaging procedure as well as the harmonic balance approximations therein. Moreover, interesting dynamics is uncovered in the strongly nonlinear case with small delayed terms, where arbitrarily many stable and unstable limit cycles can coexist, and infinitely many simultaneous saddle-node bifurcations can occur.     

Solution‐Based Synthesis of Layered Intergrowth Compounds of the Homologous PbmBi2nTe3n+m Series as Nanosheets

Layered intergrowth compounds in the homologous Pb_mBi_2nTe_3n+m family are interesting because they are examples of natural heterostructures. We present a simple solution‐based synthesis of two‐dimensional nanosheets of PbBi₂Te₄, Pb₂Bi₂Te₅, and PbBi₆Te₁₀ layered intergrowth compounds, which are members of the Pb_mBi_2nTe_3n+m [that is, (PbTe)_m(Bi₂Te₃)_n] homologous series. Few‐layer nanosheets exhibit narrow optical band gaps (0.25–0.7 eV) with semiconducting electronic‐transport properties.
