The weakly ionic amphiphilic diblock copolymer polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid) was synthesized by nitroxy radical-mediated living radical polymerization with precise control of block length, block ratio, and polydispersity. Systematical surface tension experiments and foam formation observations revealed that this polymer was non-surface active under neutral and alkaline (pH 10) conditions, while it was surface active under an acidic condition (pH 3). This result supports our proposed origin of non-surface activity; the image charge repulsion at the air/water interface is essential in addition to very stable micelle formation in the bulk solution. At a higher pH (pH 12), the polymer showed slight surface activity since the added NaOH played a role as an added salt. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) was estimated by static light scattering. Cmc increased with increasing added salt (NaCl) concentration as was observed for other strongly ionic non-surface-active polymers. Hence, this trend is characteristic for non-surface-active polymers. The pH dependence of cmc was minimum at pH 8–10. Since the acrylic acid block is fully ionized under this condition, the strong image charge repulsion at this condition accelerated micelle formation at a low polymer concentration, which consequently decreased cmc. Micelles in bulk solution were confirmed by dynamic light scattering, and the salt concentration and pH dependencies of the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles were also estimated. The pH-responsive non-surface-active/surface-active transition observed in this study strongly supports the fact that the image charge repulsion is an essential factor for non-surface activity in addition to stable micelle formation in solution. 相似文献

In this paper, water-soluble magnetite nanoparticles have been directly synthesized by thermal decomposition of iron (III) acetylacetonate, Fe(acac)3 in tri(ethyleneglycol). Size and morphology of the nanoparticles are determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements while the crystal structure is identified using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Surface charge and surface coating of the nanoparticles are recognized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and zeta potential measurements. Magnetic properties are determined using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) measurements. The results show that as-prepared magnetite nanoparticles are relatively monodisperse, single crystalline and superparamagnetic in nature with the blocking temperature at around 100 K. The magnetite nanoparticles are found to be highly soluble in water due to steric and electrostatic interactions between the particles arising by the surface adsorbed tri(ethyleneglycol) molecules and associated positive charges, respectively. Cytotoxicity studies on human cervical (SiHa), mouse melanoma (B16F10) and mouse primary fibroblast cells demonstrate that up to a dose of 80 μg/ml, the magnetic nanoparticles are nontoxic to the cells. Specific absorption rate (SAR) value has been calculated to be 885 and 539 W/gm for samples with the iron concentration of 1 and 0.5 mg/ml, respectively. The high SAR value upon exposure to 20 MHz radiofrequency signifies the applicability of as-prepared magnetite nanoparticles for a feasible magnetic hyperthermia treatment. 相似文献

This paper deals with finite element analysis of the fluid-structure systems considering the coupled effect of elastic structure and fluid. The equations of motion of the fluid considered inviscid and compressible are expressed in terms of the pressure variable alone. The elastic structure and the fluid domain are treated as two separate systems and discretized with finite elements. The solution of the coupled system is accomplished by solving the two systems separately with the interaction effects at the fluid-solid interface enforced by a developed iterative scheme. Non-divergent pressure and displacement are obtained simultaneously through a few numbers of iterations. Studies show the accuracy of the proposed algorithm, while comparing with the existing ones available in the literature. Basic alumina supported solvent-free one-pot synthesis of pyridine-fused polycyclic diazepaniums was achieved under microwave irradiation. The process was successfully extended to the synthesis of pyridine-fused bicyclic imidazolidiniums and tetrahydro-pyrimidiniums and also of tri- and tetracyclic diaza-heterocycle-fused quinoliniums. The dual characteristic of basic alumina, a solid support as well as a base, was successfully employed in the current investigation.
