The molecular structures of ethynylbenzene and s-triethynylbenzene have been accurately determined by gas-phase electron diffraction and ab initio/DFT MO calculations and are compared to that of p-diethynylbenzene from a previous study [Domenicano, A.; Arcadi, A.; Ramondo, F.; Campanelli, A. R.; Portalone, G.; Schultz, G.; Hargittai, I. J. Phys. Chem. 1996, 100, 14625]. Although the equilibrium structures of the three molecules have C2v, D3h, and D2h symmetry, respectively, the corresponding average structures in the gaseous phase are best described by nonplanar models of Cs, C3v, and C2v symmetry, respectively. The lowering of symmetry is due to the large-amplitude motions of the substituents out of the plane of the benzene ring. The use of nonplanar models in the electron diffraction analysis yields ring angles consistent with those from MO calculations. The molecular structure of ethynylbenzene reported from microwave spectroscopy studies is shown to be inaccurate in the ipso region of the benzene ring. The variations of the ring C-C bonds and C-C-C angles in p-diethynylbenzene and s-triethynylbenzene are well interpreted as arising from the superposition of independent effects from each substituent. In particular, experiments and calculations consistently show that the mean length of the ring C-C bonds increases by about 0.002 A per ethynyl group. MO calculations at different levels of theory indicate that though the length of the C[triple bond]C bond of the ethynyl group is unaffected by the pattern of substitution, the C(ipso)-C(ethynyl) bonds in p-diethynylbenzene are 0.001-0.002 A shorter than the corresponding bonds in ethynylbenzene and s-triethynylbenzene. This small effect is attributed to conjugation of the two substituents through the benzene ring. Comparison of experimental and MO results shows that the differences between the lengths of the C(ipso)-C(ethynyl) and C(ipso)-C(ortho) bonds in the three molecules, 0.023-0.027 A, are correctly computed at the MP2 and B3LYP levels of theory but are overestimated by a factor of 2 when calculated at the HF level.  相似文献

A method for the estimation of the energy of intramolecular hydrogen bonds in conjugated systems existing in a variety of conformations is presented. The method is applied to determine the intramolecular hydrogen bond energy in 3-aminopropenal and 3-aminopropenthial. According to the proposed estimation scheme, the intramolecular H-bond energies are found to be of the order of 5-7 kcal/mol. These results are compared with those obtained by using other estimation schemes as well as with the recent results by other authors. Also, the H-bond energies in dimers and trimers of the two molecules are calculated and compared with the corresponding data for internally hydrogen-bonded monomers. This comparison shows that the bond equalization effect is primarily due to proton donor-proton acceptor proximity. In comparison with intermolecular hydrogen bonds, the rigidity of the chelate skeleton enhances this proximity effect. The same effect can be seen in systems with intermolecular hydrogen bonds, although its magnitude is diminished because of the absence of additional forces which pull the proton donor and proton acceptor groups toward each other. No specific resonance-assisted origin of the intramolecular hydrogen bond energy seems to be needed to elucidate the energetics of these bonds.  相似文献

EPR study on the ligand-exchange reaction between bis(diethyldiselenocarbamato)copper(II), Cu(Et2dsc)2, and bis(octyldithiocarbonato)copper(II), Cu(octxant)2, in CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4, C6H6 and C6H5.CH3 is reported for the first time. Mixing of equimolar amounts of the parents (chromophores CuSe4 and CuS4, respectively) in C6H6, C6H5.CH3 and CH2Cl2 makes EPR signals of both parents superimposed by the spectrum of a mixed-chelate Cu(xant)(dsc) complex (chromophore CuS2Se2). A new additional EPR spectrum appears in CHCl3 or CCl4 due to a five-coordinate mixed-ligand complex with the chromophore Cu(S3Se)S as follows by comparing the g-values of parents and mixed-ligand complexes. The appearance of this complex could be explained having in mind donor-acceptor properties of complexes, solvents and the resultant reaction of Cu(octxant)2 with the ester of diselenocarbamic acid yielded in Cu(Et2dsc)2 destruction by CCl4 or CHCl3.  相似文献

Objective

Whereas several studies have used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate motor recovery, whether therapy to decrease post-stroke hypertonus alters central motor patterns remains unclear. In this study, we used continuous electromyography (EMG)-fMRI to investigate possible changes in movement-related brain activation in patients receiving Botulinum toxin (BoNT-A) for hand-muscle hypertonus after chronic stroke.

Methods

We studied eight stroke patients all of whom had hemiparesis and associated upper-limb hypertonus. All patients underwent an fMRI-EMG recording and clinical-neurological assessment before BoNT-A and 5 weeks thereafter. The handgrip motor task during imaging was fixed across both patients and controls. The movements were metronome paced, movement amplitude and force were controlled with a plastic orthosis, dynamometer and EMG recording. An age-matched control group was recruited from among healthy volunteers underwent the same fMRI-EMG recording.

Results

Before BoNT-A, while patients moved the paretic hand, fMRI detected wide bilateral activation in the sensorymotor areas (SM1), in the supplementary motor area (SMA) and cerebellum. After BoNT-A blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) activation decreased in ipsilateral and contralateral motor areas and became more lateralized. BOLD activation decreased also in ipsilateral cerebellar regions and in the SMA.

Conclusion

Changes in peripheral upper-limb hypertonus after BoNT-A were associated to an improvement in active movements and more lateralized and focalized activation of motor areas. The clinical and EMG-fMRI coregistration technique we used to study hand-muscle hypertonus in patients receiving BoNT-A after chronic stroke should be useful in future studies seeking improved strategies for post-stroke neurorehabilitation.  相似文献

The extensive upgrade of the experimental end‐station of the SPECTROMICROSCOPY‐3.2L beamline at Elettra synchrotron light source is reported. After the upgrade, angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy from a submicrometre spot and scanning microscopy images monitoring the photoelectron signal inside selected acquisition angle and energy windows can be performed. As a test case, angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy from single flakes of highly oriented pyrolitic graphite and imaging of the flakes with image contrast owing to rotation of the band dispersion of different flakes are presented.  相似文献

Photochemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (photo-CIDNP MAS NMR) allows for the investigation of the electronic structure of the photochemical machinery of photosynthetic reaction centers (RCs) at atomic resolution. For such experiments, either continuous radiation from white xenon lamps or green laser pulses are applied to optically dense samples. In order to explore their optical properties, optically thick samples of isolated and quinone-removed RCs of the purple bacteria of Rhodobacter sphaeroides wild type are studied by nanosecond laser-flash 13C photo-CIDNP MAS NMR using excitation wavelengths between 720 and 940 nm. Action spectra of both the transient nuclear polarization as well as the nuclear hyperpolarization, remaining in the electronic ground state at the end of the photocycle, are obtained. It is shown that the signal intensity is limited by the amount of accessible RCs and that the different mechanisms of the photo-CIDNP production rely on the same photophysical origin, which is the photocycle induced by one single photon.  相似文献

Heterogeneously catalyzed enzymatic glucose isomerization was considered as a model process to extend the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetic resonance imaging techniques to the studies of biocatalytic processes and heterogeneous biocatalysts. It has been demonstrated that the T 2 times of glucose are different for its aqueous solution in the pores of an unmodified porous support and in a heterogeneous biocatalyst, comprising bacterial cells immobilized on the same support. This observation has been used to map the spatial distribution of the active component within a packed bed of biocatalyst in a model reactor. 13C NMR spectroscopy was applied to follow the progress of glucose isomerization catalyzed by the heterogeneous biocatalyst in a batch reactor. The utilization of proton spin decoupling and nuclear Overhauser effect was shown to be necessary to obtain high signal-to-noise ratio in the natural abundance 13C NMR spectra of a glucose–fructose syrup present in the packed bed of biocatalyst. The spectra thus obtained were suitable for the quantification of the glucose-to-fructose ratio achieved in the biocatalytic reaction.  相似文献

Existing theoretical models of evolution focus on the relative fitness advantages of different mutants in a population while the dynamic behavior of the population size is mostly left unconsidered. We present here a generic stochastic model which combines the growth dynamics of the population and its internal evolution. Our model thereby accounts for the fact that both evolutionary and growth dynamics are based on individual reproduction events and hence are highly coupled and stochastic in nature. We exemplify our approach by studying the dilemma of cooperation in growing populations and show that genuinely stochastic events can ease the dilemma by leading to a transient but robust increase in cooperation.  相似文献
