Retinal trauma is a serious concern for patients undergoing inner limiting membrane (ILM) peeling to correct for various vitreoretinal interface conditions. This mechanical trauma can be prevented by modifying the surface of surgical instruments to increase adhesion to the ILM. To this effect, we have studied the effects of roughness and surface charge on the adhesive properties of ILMs by utilizing layer-by-layer (LbL) films with embedded gold nanoparticles (LbL-AuNP films). LbL films were assembled on atomic force microscopy (AFM) tipless cantilevers. Topographical analysis of these films, with and without nanoparticles, showed that LbL films with nanoparticles had a higher rms roughness compared to films alone or unmodified cantilevers. Nanoparticle-modified LbL films significantly increased the adhesion forces at the cantilever-ILM interface, compared to LbL films without particles. Surprisingly, adsorption of gold nanoparticles onto the AFM cantilevers caused increases in adhesion forces greater than those measured with LbL-AuNP films. These results have important implications for the design of surface modifications for vitreoretinal surgical instruments.  相似文献

The chemical composition of essential oils of cabreuva (Myrocarpus fastigiatus Allemao, Fabaceae) from Brazil, cedarwood (Juniperus ashei, Cupressaceae) from Texas, Juniper berries (Juniperus communis L., Cupressaceae) and myrrh (Commiphora myrrha (Nees) Engl., Burseraceae) were analyzed using GC/FID and GC/MS. The antimicrobial activity of these essential oils and some of their main compounds were tested against eleven different strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by using agar diffusion and agar serial dilution methods. Animal and plant pathogens, food poisoning and spoilage bacteria were selected. The volatile oils exhibited considerable inhibitory effects against all tested organisms, except Pseudomonas, using both test methods. Higher activity was observed against Gram-positive strains in comparison with Gram-negative bacteria. Cabreuva oil from Brazil showed similar results, but in comparison with the other oils tested, only when higher concentrations of oil were used.  相似文献

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2C (LGMD2C) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the gamma-sarcoglycan gene. A 'private' Gypsy C283Y mutation was detected in this gene. Recently, a number of LGMD2C-affected families belonging to a Xoroxane Gypsy group have been detected in eastern Bulgaria and all of these cases were due to the same mutation. We have screened 300 unrelated individuals of reproductive age from this high-risk Xoroxane Gypsy group, settled in Sliven. The genetic test by PCR-SSCP analysis for the C283Y mutation revealed a carrier frequency of 7.7%. The screened sample was ethnically not homogeneous. It was divided in ethnonym groups on the basis of social and economic status, language characteristics and trades. We found that the C283Y was not randomly distributed among the Gypsy subgroups. The disease seemed to be limited to the Xoroxane Gypsy group and geographically localized in eastern Bulgaria.  相似文献

The contents of Cl, Ca, K, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Ba and Pb in raw coal fly ash from five Bulgarian power plants were determined by total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF), using gallium as the internal standard. The samples were analysed as in slurry form in Triton? X-114. The experimental parameters, such as grain size, concentrations of fly ash slurry and excitation time were optimised. For validation of the method, the certified reference material BCR-176R fly ash was used. The precision of the results obtained is characterised by a relative standard deviation of approximately 10%. The resulting data confirm the suitability of TXRF for the simultaneous determination of major, minor and trace elements in coal fly ash samples. Further advantages provided by TXRF are easy sample preparation (no sample dissolution) and the small sample amount required for analysis.  相似文献

Dehydropolymerisation of methylamine borane (H3B⋅NMeH2) using the well-known iron amido complex [(PNP)Fe(H)(CO)] (PNP=N(CH2CH2PiPr2)2) ( 1 ) gives poly(aminoborane)s by a chain-growth mechanism. In toluene, rapid dehydrogenation of H3B⋅NMeH2 following first-order behaviour as a limiting case of a more general underlying Michaelis–Menten kinetics is observed, forming aminoborane H2B=NMeH, which selectively couples to give high-molecular-weight poly(aminoborane)s (H2BNMeH)n and only traces of borazine (HBNMe)3 by depolymerisation after full conversion. Based on a series of comparative experiments using structurally related Fe catalysts and dimethylamine borane (H3B⋅NMe2H) polymer formation is proposed to occur by nucleophilic chain growth as reported earlier computationally and experimentally. A silyl functionalised primary borane H3B⋅N(CH2SiMe3)H2 was studied in homo- and co-dehydropolymerisation reactions to give the first examples for Si containing poly(aminoborane)s.  相似文献

Commercially available aroma samples were evaluated for their olfactory quality by professional perfumers and tested for their antimicrobial activity. Agar diffusion and agar-dilution were used as test methods and a set of two Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis) and four Gram-negative bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris G, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella abony) and a yeast, Candida albicans, were the test microorganisms. All the investigated compounds were active against Gram-positive bacteria, especially beta-caryophyllene against Enterococcus faecalis (MIC 6 ppm), but only few substances showed activity towards Gram-negative bacteria, except for cinnamic acid, which was active against all (MIC 60 ppm) and Candida albicans, against which cinnamic acid and caryophyllene oxide showed high activity (MIC < 60 ppm).  相似文献

Longitudinal and transverse relaxation times of multicomponent nanoparticle (NP) chains are investigated for their potential use as multifunctional imaging agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Gold NPs (ca. 5 nm) are arranged linearly along double‐stranded DNA, creating gold NP chains. After cutting gold NP chains with restriction enzymes (EcoRI or BamHI), multicomponent NP chains are formed through a ligation reaction with enzyme‐cut, superparamagnetic NP chains. We evaluate the changes in relaxation times for different constructs of gold–iron oxide NP chains and gold–cobalt iron oxide NP chains using 300 MHz 1H NMR. In addition, the mechanism of proton relaxation for multicomponent NP chains is examined. The results indicate that relaxation times are dependent on the one‐dimensional structure and the amount of superparamagnetic NP chains present in the multicomponent constructs. Multicomponent NP chains arranged on double‐stranded DNA provide a feasible method for fabrication of multifunctional imaging agents that improve relaxation times effectively for MRI applications.  相似文献

The hardness and Young's modulus of 10 and 20 nm gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) modified with bovine serum albumin and streptavidin were measured using a nanoindenter. The Au NPs were immobilized on a semiconductor surface through organic self-assembled monolayers. Changes in mechanical properties occurred when the Au NPs were immobilized on the surface. The hardness and Young's modulus were dependent on the size of the NPs, and the proteins on the particles showed highly plastic and elastic behavior compared to flat surfaces modified with self-assembled monolayers.  相似文献
