An optical mono-stable multivibrator laser diode (MM-LD) is realized by using a multi-electrode distributed feedback laser diode. All-optical pulse-width conversion of ultra-short pulses to non-return-to-zero (NRZ) is achieved using an MM-LD. The MM-LD is adopted for a wide range of bit-rates between 2-10 Gbit/s by tuning the DC bias. Data format transformation from 10-Gbit/s return-to-zero optical signals to NRZ optical-signals is achieved with error free operation. Converted optical signals, which have a narrower spectral bandwidth and lower peak power than when input, are transmitted using a 1.3-μm zero dispersion fiber (1.3Aλ0-SMF).  相似文献

Solvent effects on dynamical and thermal behaviors of ovalbumin (OVA) gels induced by thermal denaturation at high temperature of 160°C were studied from dynamic shear modulus measurement, shear creep and creep recovery measurement, and DSC measurement. Two organic solvents, glycerin (G) and ethylene glycol (EG), and their mixtures with water (W)(G/W and EG/W) were used as solvent for preparation of gels. Stable gels formed in pure glycerin took a fractal structure at OVA concentration C range of 15–45wt% at a temperature specific to respective C, whereas a fractal structure was not observed for gels prepared in EG, G/W, and EG/W. The results were consistent with thermal denaturation behaviors of OVA in these solvents. Morphologies of two gels prepared in water and glycerin were explored using high resolution SEM, which showed that a basic unit responsible for formation of OVA gels was spheres with a diameter ranging from 20 to 40 nm, being much larger than 5.6 nm of the diameter of native OVA, and a fractal structure was related to network formation accompanied by melting of those spheres.Dedicated to Prof. John D. A neural network model for solving an assortment problem found in the iron and steel industry is discussed in this paper. The problem arises in the yard where steel plate is cut into rectangular pieces. The neural network model can be categorized as a Hopfield model, but the model is expanded to handle inequality constraints. The idea of a penalty function is used. A large penalty is applied to the network if a constraint is not satisfied. The weights are updated based on the penalty values. A special term is added to the energy function of the network to guarantee the convergence of the neural network which has this feature. The performance of the neural network was evaluated by comparison with an existing expert system. The results showed that the neural network has the potential to identify in a short time near-optimal solutions to the assortment problem. The neural network is used as the core of a system for dealing with the assortment problem. In building the neural networks system for practical use, there were many implementation issues. Some of them are presented here, and the fundamental ideas are explained. The performance of the neural network system is compared to that of the expert system and evaluated from the practical viewpoint. The results show that the neural network system is useful in handling the assortment problem.  相似文献

Pluronic F-127 (PLF-127) gels were evaluated as a sustained-release vehicle for intraperitoneal administration of mitomycin C (MMC) in order to enhance the therapeutic effects of MMC against a Sarcoma-180 ascites tumor in mice. Tumor cell injections were made on day 0 and injections of MMC in 25% (w/w) PLF-127 on day 1, both intraperitoneally. A prolongation of the life span of tumor-bearing mice following injection of therapeutic PLF-127 was noted, and PLF-127 containing MMC was therapeutically more active than free drug. The high chemotherapeutic efficiency of MMC in PLF-127 was striking at high doses, which would be toxic in the case of the drug alone. PLF-127 gels exhibit reverse thermal behavior and are fluid at refrigerator temperature, but are soft gels at body temperature. The in vitro release experiments indicated that Pluronic gel might serve as a rate-controlling barrier and be useful as a vehicle for sustained-release preparations of MMC to be administered intraperitoneally. These results suggest that sustained-release occurs in the peritoneum and that effective drug concentrations can be maintained by the preparation.  相似文献

The total synthesis of (?)‐isoschizogamine was accomplished, featuring the construction of the quaternary carbon center by the modified Johnson–Claisen rearrangement in basic media and the facile assembly of the key tetracyclic quinolone intermediate through a cascade cyclization. A novel bioethanol separation process was proposed in this study employing molecular sieving carbon (MSC) as an adsorbent, whose pore diameter is close to molecular size of ethanol. In the proposed process, fermentation broth is first introduced to the adsorption bed packed with MSC. In this step, ethanol is selectively adsorbed onto MSC, with highly enriching ethanol in the micropore of MSC. Subsequently, the concentrated ethanol is desorbed from MSC to gaseous phase, resulting in further purification of ethanol owing to a considerable difference in desorption rate between water and ethanol; Because of molecular sieving effect of MSC, the desorption rate of ethanol is much smaller than that of water. To establish this process, adsorption equilibrium and kinetics of ethanol on various MSCs were investigated in aqueous phase as the first step. Also, desorption kinetics of ethanol and water in gaseous phase were investigated. As a result, it was suggested that highly concentrated ethanol could be obtained with high recovery ratio through these simple operations, meaning the proposed process is quite promising.  相似文献

Metal electrodes with micron scale width enable the heating of less than a dozen cells in a confluent layer at predictable temperatures up to 85 °C with an accuracy of ±2 °C. Those performances were obtained by a preliminary robust temperature calibration based on biotin-rhodamine fluorescence and by controlling the temperature map on the substrate through thermal modeling. The temperature accuracy was proved by inducing the expression of heat shock proteins (HSP) in a few NIH-3T3 cells through a confined and precise temperature rise. Our device is therefore effective to locally induce a heat shock response with almost single-cell resolution. Furthermore, we show that cells heated at a higher temperature than the one of heat shock remain alive without producing HSP. Electrode deposition being one of the most common engineering processes, the fabrication of electrode arrays with a simple control circuit is clearly within reach for parallel testing. This should enable the study of several key mechanisms such as cell heat shock, death or signaling. In nanomedicine, controlled drug release by external stimuli such as for example temperature has attracted much attention. Our device could allow fast and efficient testing of thermoactivable drug delivery systems.  相似文献

Spectrally narrow, pulsed outputs consisting of almost a single mode have been obtained from an optically-pumped high-power (200kW) D2O laser by adopting the injection seeding method, where single-mode radiation (seed pulse) from a low-power, compact D2O laser has been injected into the main D2O laser. Spectrally narrow outputs with high power having spectral widths as narrow as 5 MHz have been obtained, when the seed pulses with frequency tuned to one longitudinal mode of the main D2O laser have been injected at a time sufficiently before the lasing of the main laser took place. The experimental results have been compared with those of numerical simulation modified to include the injection field with varying injection times.  相似文献
