Effect of electron irradiation on the crystalline structure of hgte and hgl-xcdxte thin films

The influence of 8 MeV electrons on the crystalline structure of HgTe and Hg1-xCdxTe thin films was studied. HgTe and Hg1-xCdxTe layers were obtained by thermal evaporation and condensation in vacuum on optically flat silica glass substrates heated at different temperatures.

One finds that the results of irradiation of HgTe and Hg_1-xCd_xTe thin films with 8 MeV electrons depend on the preparation conditions of the samples, and therefore on the level of perfection of the crystalline structure and the quantity of nonstoichiometric atoms.     

Residual determination and risk assessment of buprofezin in plum (Prunus domestica) grown in open‐field conditions following the application of three different formulations

This study was conducted to characterize the residual level and perform a risk assessment on buprofezin formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate, wettable powder, and suspension concentrate over various treatment schedules in plum (Prunus domestica). The samples were extracted with an AOAC quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe, ‘QuEChERS’, method after major modifications. As intrinsic interferences were observed in blank plum samples following dispersive‐solid phase extraction (consisting of primary secondary amine and C₁₈ sorbents), amino cartridges were used for solid‐phase extraction. Analysis was carried out using liquid chromatography with diode array detection and confirmed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The method showed excellent linearity with determination coefficient (R² = 1) and satisfactory recoveries (at two spiking levels, 0.5 and 2.5 mg/kg) between 90.98 and 94.74% with relative standard deviation (RSD) ≤8%. The limit of quantification (0.05 mg/kg) was considerably lower than the maximum residue limit (2 mg/kg) set by the Codex Alimentarius. Absolute residue levels for emulsifiable concentrates were highest, perhaps owing to the dilution rate and adjuvant. Notably, all formulation residues were lower than the maximum residue limit, and safety data proved that the fruits are safe for consumers. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of Some New S-Triazole Derivatives

Abstract

Alkylation of 4-anilino-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (1) with some halo compounds yielded the corresponding sulfides 2a–f. Some sulfides 2e,f were cyclized to give triazolothiadiazines 3 and 4. Triazolothiadiazoles 5 and 6 were prepared through the reaction of compound 1 with carbon disulfide or ethyl orthoformate, respectively. Treatment of compound 1 with ethyl chloroformate or phenyl isothiocyanate yielded triazolo-thiadiazole and triazole 9 and 10, respectively. Reaction of compound 1 with Lawesson's reagent gave triazolothiadiazaphosphole derivative 11. Also, compound 1 underwent cyclocondensation reactions with some bidentate reagents to give triazolothiazines 4, 12, and 13. Triazolo-thiazepines and triaziepine 14–16 were synthesized via the reaction of compound 1 with β-ketoesters or ethyl cyanoacetate. Tricyclic systems 19 and 20 were prepared through the reaction of compound 4 with the appropriate reagent. Some synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial activity.

On the Reaction of 3-Acetyl Coumarin with Alkyl Phosphites. Structural Confirmations Based on X-Ray Crystallography

3-Acetyl coumarin ( 1 ) reacts with dialkyl phosphites at 100°;C for 8 h to give the phosphonates 2 . Under the same experimental conditions, 1 reacts with trialkyl phosphites to form a mixture of the phosphonates 2 and 3 . The molecular structures of these products were elucidated by x-ray crystallography.     

Evaluation of Antifungal and Antioxidant Activity of Newly Synthesized 4‐Thiazolidinones

The antifungal and antioxidant activities of thirty newly synthesized 4‐thiazolidinone (TZON) derivatives were assessed against some fungal species including Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. The introduction of different arylidene moieties at 5‐positions of the thiazolidinone ring successfully enhanced its biological activity. The structure–activity relationships revealed that 4‐thiazolidinone derivatives harboring dicarboxyethyl (at the 2‐ethenyl) and p‐nitrophenylhydrazyl arm (at the 5‐arylidine positions of the thiazolidinone ring) display considerable antifungal and antioxidant properties.     

Synthesis and Reaction of Some Indenopyridine and Thieno[2,3-b]Indeno[2,1-e]Pyridine Derivatives

Synthesis of indenopyridine-2-thione derivatives 6a-e via reaction of compound 1 with thioamides 2a-e in good yields. Several thieno[2,3-b]indeno[2,1-e]pyridine 9a-e have been synthesized. Some of them was used as a key intermediate in synthesis of 10-12. On the other hand, compound 1 reacted with various reagents to yield 16, 19, 21-24.     

Simplified Approach to the Uncatalyzed Knoevenagel Condensation and Michael Addition Reactions in Water using Microwave Irradiation

Use of microwave irradiation in the synthesis of arylidenemalononitrile and benzopyran derivatives in water without catalyst is a clean method with high yield.     

Novel Cyanoketene N,S‐Acetals and Pyrazole Derivatives using Potassium 2‐Cyanoethylene‐1‐thiolates

Novel ketene N,S‐acetals 3 were readily prepared by the reaction of cyanoacetamide or cyanothioacetamide with phenylisothiocyanate in the presence of potassium hydroxide, followed by alkylation of the produced salts with methyl iodide. The reaction of compounds 3 with hydrazines afforded different substituted pyrazoles 6.
