Novel two‐dimensional donor–acceptor (D–A) structured conjugated polymers, P1–P4, were designed and synthesized by introducing electron‐deficient quinoxaline as core and electron‐rich alkoxyl‐phenylenevinylene in side chains and p‐phenylenevinylene, triphenylamine, or thiophene in main chain. Benefited from the D–A structures, the polymers possess low bandgaps of 1.75 eV, 1.86 eV, 1.59 eV, and 1.58 eV for P1, P2, P3, and P4, respectively, and show broad absorption band in the visible region: the shorter wavelength absorption peak at ~400 nm ascribed to the conjugated side chains and the longer wavelength absorption peak between 500 nm and 750 nm belonging to the absorption of the conjugated main chains. Especially, the absorption band of P4 film covers the whole visible range from 300 nm to 784 nm. The power conversion efficiencies of the polymer solar cells based on P1–P4 as donor and PCBM as acceptor are 0.029%, 0.14%, 0.46%, and 0.57%, respectively, under the illumination of AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm2. The polymers with the low bandgap and broad absorption band are promising photovoltaic materials. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4038–4049, 2008  相似文献

Two new low bandgap alternating polyfluorene copolymers based on dioctylfluorene and donor‐acceptor‐donor monomers have been synthesized via a Suzuki polymerization reaction. The resulting copolymers have low optical bandgaps at 1.99–1.98 eV. The bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells were fabricated with the conjugated polymers as the electron donor and 6.6‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester as the electron acceptor. The power conversion efficiencies of the solar cells based on copolymers 1 and 2 are 0.37 and 0.42%, respectively, under the illumination of AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm2. The results indicate that the two copolymers are promising conjugated polymers for polymer solar cells. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 5336–5343, 2009  相似文献

A series of novel low‐bandgap triphenylamine‐based conjugated polymers ( PCAZCN , PPTZCN , and PDTPCN ) consisting of different electron‐rich donor main chains (N‐alkyl‐2,7‐carbazole, phenothiazine, and cyclopentadithinopyrol, respectively) as well as cyano‐ and dicyano‐vinyl electron‐acceptor pendants were synthesized and developed for polymer solar cell applications. The polymers covered broad absorption spectra of 400–800 nm with narrow optical bandgaps ranging 1.66–1.72 eV. The highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels of the polymers measured by cyclic voltammetry were found in the range of ?5.12 to ?5.32 V and ?3.45 to ?3.55 eV, respectively. Under 100 mW/cm2 of AM 1.5 white‐light illumination, bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices composing of an active layer of electron‐donor polymers ( PCAZCN , PPTZCN , and PDTPCN ) blended with electron‐acceptor [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) in different weight ratios were investigated. The photovoltaic device containing donor PCAZCN and acceptor PC71BM in 1:2 weight ratio showed the highest power conversion efficiency of 1.28%, with Voc = 0.81 V, Jsc = 4.93 mA/cm2, and fill factor = 32.1%. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of donor‐acceptor low‐bandgap conjugated polymers, that is, HThmBT (m = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15), composed of regioregular 3‐hexylthiophene segments and 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole units, were synthesized through the Stille coupling polymerization to optimize the π‐conjugation length of the polymer and the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect in the polymer backbone. The polymers had relatively low optical bandgaps ranging from 1.6 to 1.72 eV. Among these polymers, HTh6BT exhibited the best device performance with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.6%. Moreover, despite being based on thiophene, HTh6BT exhibited a high‐open circuit voltage (VOC) of over 0.8 V because of its low high occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level. These results provided an effective strategy for designing and synthesizing low‐bandgap conjugated polymers with broad absorption ranges and well‐balanced energy levels. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low‐bandgap rhenium(I) complex with absorption onset at 795 nm in solution was tethered onto π‐conjugated polymer. The conjugated copolymer provides solution processability of the metallopolymer, and the pendant allows the low energy‐absorbing Re(I) complex units to be evenly distributed on the thin film. The copolymer tethered with low‐bandgap rhenium complex was synthesized by Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction. The metal‐free polymer ( poly‐1 ) tethered with functionalized intramolecular charge transfer dye, 2‐phenyl‐3‐pyridin‐2‐yl‐5,7‐di‐2‐thienylthieno[3,4‐b]pyrazine, exhibited high molecular weight, good film‐forming properties, and excellent solution processability. The pendants of the conjugated polymer possess donor–acceptor characters and broaden the absorption band. These pendants can function as bidentate ligands for metal chelation. The solubilizing groups on the monomers provide good solubility to the polymer even with high content of metal chelation. Upon the complexation with rhenium(I) pentacarbonyl chloride, the absorption spectrum of the resulting metallopolymer was further extended toward the near‐infrared region. Photovoltaic performances based on this metallopolymer have been studied. The design approach of these metallopolymers provides synthetic feasibility for coordinating wide range of metal ions on the pendant, and the resulting low‐bandgap polymer can be a potential candidate for light harvesting material in solar cell applications. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymer solar cells (PSCs) were fabricated using a ternary blend film consisting two conjugated polymers and a soluble fullerene derivative as the donor and acceptor materials, respectively. And, to compare ternary blend system, the single‐component copolymers consisting of the repeating units of each of the copolymers, used in ternary blend solar cells, were designed and synthesized for use as the electron donor materials in binary blend solar cells. We systematically investigated the field‐effect carrier mobilities and the optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties of the copolymers. Under optimized conditions, the binary blend polymer systems showed power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) for the PSCs in the range 3.87–4.16% under AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW cm?2). All polymers exhibited similar PCEs that did not depend on the ratio of repeating units. The binary blend solar cell containing a single‐component copolymer as the electron donor material performed better than the ternary blend solar cell in this work. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Through the Stille coupling polymerization, a series of soluble acceptor/donor quinoxaline/thiophene alternating conducting polymers with a hole‐transporting moiety of carbazole as a side chain ( PCPQT ) has been designed, synthesized, and investigated. The UV–vis measurement of the charge‐transferred type PCPQT s of different molecular weights with low polydispersity exhibits a red shifting of their absorption maximum from 530 to 630 nm with increasing chain length (Mn: from 1100 to 19,200). The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of PCPQT can be determined from the cyclic voltammetry measurement to be ?5.36 and ?3.59 eV, respectively. Solar cells made from PCPQT/PCBM bulk heterojunction show a high open‐circuit voltage, Voc of ~0.75 V, which is significantly higher than that of a solar cell made from conventional poly(3‐hexyl thiophene)/ PCBM as the active polymer PCPQT has lower HOMO level. Further improvements are anticipated through a rational design of the new low band‐gap and the structurally two‐dimensional donor–acceptor conducting polymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of light‐harvesting conjugated polymers were designed and synthesized for polymer solar cells. These newly designed polymers comprise an unusual two‐dimensional conjugated structure with an electron‐rich thiophene–triphenylamine backbone and stable planar indacenodithiophene π‐bridges terminated with tunable electron acceptors. It was found that the electron‐withdrawing strength of the acceptor could be used to manipulate the energy level of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital and bandgap (as much as 0.3 eV), generating derivatives with complementary absorbance in the visible spectrum. This approach provides great flexibility in fine tuning the electronic and optical properties of the resultant polymers and facilitates the investigation of how these chemical modifications alter the subsequent photovoltaic properties of these materials. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 3‐Hexyloxy‐4‐cyanothiophene, 3‐pyrrolidil‐4‐cyanothiophene, and 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) units are used with benzothiadiazole as building blocks for the development of three new conjugated donor–acceptor–donor (DAD) derivatives. The DAD molecules have the central acceptor part, which is formed by combining electron‐withdrawing cyano groups and the benzothiadiazole moiety, in common. Theoretical calculations and UV/Vis and electrochemical data reveal the key role of the end‐capped donor to tune the electronic properties of the derivatives. A study of the electropolymerization process of the three derivatives shows the strong influence of the donor parts on both the reactivity of the precursors and the electronic properties of the resulting polymers. Derivatives end‐capped with pyrrolidinocyano thiophene or EDOT units lead to films of polymers presenting low band gaps of around 0.9–1.4 eV. Upon oxidation, the two polymers present different behavior. In the presence of the pyrrolidinocyano thiophene moieties, oxidation leads to a blueshift of the absorption bands, whereas with EDOT units a classical redshift, giving high absorption in the near‐IR region, is observed for the oxidized states.  相似文献

Four new donor–acceptor (donor) [D–A(D)], PBDT‐PTQ, PBDT‐PTTQ, PBDT‐TQ, and PBDT‐TTQ, bearing the same backbone of alternative benzodithiophene (BDT) and quinoxaline units but with phenylene thienyl, phenylene di‐thienyl, thienyl and di‐thienyl groups (other donors), respectively, at the acceptor quinoxaline units, were designed and synthesized to investigate the impacts of the conjugated side chains at the acceptor units on the photovoltaic properties of polymers. The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of the polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on PBDT‐TQ:[6,6]‐phenyl‐C‐70‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM) and PBDT‐PTQ:PC70BM reach to 4.39 and 3.58%, respectively, which are 43 and 17% higher, respectively, than that of a reported alkylphenyl substituted polymer with the same main chain. However, the PCEs based on PBDT‐TTQ and PBDT‐PTTQ, in which an additional thiophene is added at a side chain of PBDT‐TQ and PBDT‐PTQ, respectively, decline. The mechanism how the conjugated side chains affect the performance of the PSCs is also discussed. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

Three donor–acceptor type π‐conjugated monomers containing 2, 1, 3‐benzothiadiazole (Tz) as the acceptor unit and different thiophene derivatives (thiophene, 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene, and thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene) as the donor units have been synthesized via Stille coupling reaction. The corresponding polymers are electrochemically deposited onto FTO glass by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The maximum absorption wavelength of the neutral polymers varies with the electron‐rich character of incorporated thiophene moieties, giving rise to tunable colors. In addition, the prepared polymer films demonstrate reasonable transmittance modulation, fast switching rate, high color efficiency and good stability, which meet the requirements of smart windows and electrochromic display applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel donor–acceptor type polymers consisting of alternating quaterthiophene and an electron withdrawing moiety, pyrazinyl or pyridinyl, have been prepared using Stille coupling approach with moderate yields. The polymers were highly soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and chloroform. The structure and optical properties of the polymers were characterized by NMR, UV‐vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. The polymer having pyrazine unit exhibited a red‐shift in both absorption and emission in comparison with those analogs containing pyridine because of strong electron withdrawing character of the pyrazinyl group. The polymer containing pyrazinyl as acceptor units also depicted decrease in its optical and electrochemical bandgap relative to those polymers containing 2,5‐ or 2,6‐pyridine moieties. The electrochemical behavior showed facile n‐doping and p‐doping properties of those polymers consisting of alternating quaterthiophene and the acceptor moiety. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of soluble donor‐acceptor conjugated polymers comprising of phenothiazine donor and various benzodiazole acceptors (i.e., benzothiadiazole, benzoselenodiazole, and benzoxadiazole) sandwiched between hexyl‐thiophene linkers were designed, synthesized, and used for the fabrication of polymer solar cells (PSC). The effects of the benzodiazole acceptors on the thermal, optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties of these low‐bandgap (LBG) polymers were investigated. These LBG polymers possessed large molecular weight (Mn) in the range of 3.85?5.13 × 104 with high thermal decomposition temperatures, which demonstrated broad absorption in the region of 300?750 nm with optical bandgaps of 1.80?1.93 eV. Both the HOMO energy level (?5.38 to ?5.47 eV) and LUMO energy level (?3.47 to ?3.60 eV) of the LBG polymers were within the desirable range of ideal energy level. Under 100 mW/cm2 of AM 1.5 white‐light illumination, bulk heterojunction PSC devices containing an active layer of electron donor polymers mixed with electron acceptor [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) or [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) in different weight ratios were investigated. The best performance of the PSC device was obtained by using polymer PP6DHTBT as an electron donor and PC71BM as an acceptor in the weight ratio of 1:4, and a power conversion efficiency value of 1.20%, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) value of 0.75 V, a short‐circuit current (Jsc) value of 4.60 mA/cm2, and a fill factor (FF) value of 35.0% were achieved. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Donor‐acceptor conjugated polymers containing a new imide‐functionalized naphthodithiophene (INDT) as the acceptor unit and a 2,2'‐bithiophene with varied substituents as the donor unit have been synthesized. The bandgaps of these polymers depend strongly on the dihedral angle of the 2,2'‐bithiophene unit. The 3,3'‐dialkoxy substitution (polymers PDOR / PBOR ) leads to near planar bithiophene conformation due to the well‐known S–O short contact, while the 3,3'‐dialkyl substitution (polymer PDR ) results in significant twisting due to the steric effect. Consequently PDOR / PBOR shows the lowest bandgap of 1.82/1.85 eV while PDR has a bandgap of 2.38 eV. Bulk‐heterojunction solar cells of the polymer/fullerene blends have been fabricated. Preliminary results show that PBOR gives the best device performance with power conversion efficiencies as high as 2.45% in air without any thermal annealing treatment, indicating the promising potential of INDT‐containing conjugated polymers for efficient solar cells. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two n‐type conjugated D‐A copolymers, P(TVT‐NDI) and P(FVF‐NDI) with thienylene‐vinylene‐thienylene (TVT) or furanylene‐vinylene‐furanylene (FVF) as donor (D) units and naphthalene diimide (NDI) as the acceptor (A) units, were synthesized by the Stille coupling copolymerization. The two polymers possess good solubility, high thermal stability, and broad absorption bands with absorption edges at 866 nm for P(TVT‐NDI) and 886 nm for P(FVF‐NDI) . The LUMO energy levels of P(TVT‐NDI) and P(FVF‐NDI) are ?3.80 eV and ?3.76 eV respectively, so the two polymers are suitable for the application as acceptor in blending with most polymer donor in PSCs based on the energy level matching point of view. All polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs) were fabricated with P(TVT‐NDI) or P(FVF‐NDI) as acceptor and medium bandgap polymer J51 as donor for investigating the photovoltaic performance of the two n‐type conjugated polymer acceptors. And higher power conversion efficiency of 6.43% for P(TVT‐NDI) and 5.21% for P(FVF‐NDI) was obtained. The results indicate that arylenevinylenearylene–naphthalene diimide copolymer are promising polymer acceptor for all–PSCs. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of low bandgap conjugated polymers consisting of benzothiadiazole alternating with dithienothiophene (DTT) or dithienopyrrole (DTP) unit with or without 3‐alkylthiophene bridge have been synthesized. Effect of the fused rings and 3‐alkylthiophene bridge on the thermal, optical, electrochemical, charge transport, and photovoltaic properties of these polymers have been investigated. These polymers show broad absorption extending from 300 to 1000 nm with optical bandgaps as low as 1.2 eV; the details of which can be varied either by incorporating 3‐alkylthiophene bridge or by replacing DTT with DTP. The LUMO levels (?2.9 to ?3.3 eV) are essentially unaffected by the specific choice of donor moiety, whereas the HOMO levels (?4.6 to ?5.6 eV) are more sensitive to the choice of donor. The DTT and DTP polymers with 3‐alkylthiophene bridge were found to exhibit hole mobilities of 8 × 10?5 and 3 × 10?2 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively, in top‐contact organic field‐effect transistors. Power conversion efficiencies in the range 0.17–0.43% were obtained under simulated AM 1.5, 100 mW cm?2 irradiation for polymer solar cells using the DTT and DTP‐based polymers with 3‐alkylthiophene bridge as donor and fullerene derivatives as acceptor. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of three new low bandgap donor–acceptor–donor–acceptor/ (D–A–D–A/) polymers have been successfully synthesized based on the combination of isoindigo as the electron‐deficient acceptor and 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene as the electron‐rich donor, followed by CH‐arylation with different acceptors (4,7‐dibromo[c][1,2,5]‐(oxa, thia, and/or selena)diazole ( 4a‐c )). These polymers were used as donor materials for photovoltaic applications. All of the polymers are highly stable and show good solubility in chlorinated solvents. The highest power conversion efficiency of 1.6% was achieved in the bulk heterojunction photovoltaic device that consisted of poly ((E)?6‐(7‐(benzo‐[c][1,2,5]‐thiadiazol‐4‐yl)?2,3‐dihydrothieno‐[3,4‐b][1,4]dioxin‐5‐yl)?6′‐(2,3‐dihydrothieno‐[3,4‐b][1,4]‐dioxin‐5‐yl)?1,1′‐bis‐(2‐octyldodecyl)‐[3,3′‐biindolinylidene]‐2,2′‐dione) as the donor and PC61BM as the acceptor, with a short‐circuit current density (Jsc) of 8.10 mA/cm2, an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.56 V and a fill factor of 35%, which indicates that these polymers are promising donors for polymer solar cell applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Tuning the bandgap of electrochromic polymers is one of the important research topics in electrochromism. To understand clearly the effect of donor unit in donor–acceptor–donor‐type polymers, 2,3‐bis(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐5,8‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)quinoxaline and 2,3‐bis(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐5‐(2,3‐dihydrothieno[3,4‐b][1,4]dioxin‐ 5‐yl)‐8‐(thiophen‐2‐yl)quinoxaline were synthesized and polymerized potentiodynamically. Their electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies were performed, and the results were compared with those of poly(2,3‐bis(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐5,8‐bis(2,3‐dihydrothieno[3,4‐b][1,4]dioxin‐5‐yl)quinoxaline) (Gunbas et al., Adv Mater 2008, 20, 691–695). A blue shift in the polymer π–π* transitions revealed that the bandgap of such polymers with the same acceptor unit is related to the electron density of donor units. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New conjugated copolymers, P1‐P3 , based on dithiafulvalene‐fused entity and different conjugated segments have been synthesized. Incorporation of electron‐deficient conjugated segments into the conjugated copolymers results in red shifting the absorption band and lowering the hole mobility. Bulk heterojunction solar cells using on these polymers as the donor and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61 ‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) as the acceptor were fabricated by solution process. The cells based on the blend of P1‐P3 /PC61BM (1:1, w/w) have power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) ranging from 0.53 to 0.93%. Among these, the cell of P1 /PC61BM exhibited the highest open‐circuit voltage at 0.85 V, and the cell of P3/PC61BM exhibited the best PCE at 0.93% with the short‐circuit current (JSC) of 4.88 mA/cm2. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
