A new p‐type conjugated copolymer, poly(9,10‐diethynylanthracene‐alt‐9,9‐didodecylfluorene) (PDADF), which is composed of ethynyl‐linked alternating anthracene/fluorene, is synthesized via a palladium(II)‐catalyzed Sonogashira coupling reaction with 9,10‐diethynylanthracene and 2,7‐diiodo‐9,9‐didodecyl‐fluorene. The obtained polymer is confirmed by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR and elemental analysis. The PDADF had very good solubility in organic solvents such as chloroform and had a weight average molecular weight of 29,300 with a polydispersity index of 1.29. The PL maximum of the polymer was found at 533 and 568 nm for a solution and 608 nm for film, respectively. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy of the polymer is ?5.62 eV as measured via cyclic voltammetry (CV). A solution‐processed thin film transistor device showed a carrier mobility value of 6.0 × 10?4 cm2/Vs with a threshold voltage of ?17 V and a capacitance (Ci) of 10 nF/cm2. The out‐of‐plane and in‐plane GIXD pattern of spin‐coated polymer on SiO2 dielectric surfaces showed an amorphous halo near 2θ = 20°. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel blue light-emitting polyfluorene-based copolymer PTHD containing electron-rich triphenylamine and electron-poor phenylquinoline side chains in the C-9 position of fluorene unit is described. By comparison of the solution and thin film photoluminescence (PL) spectra of PTHD, a considerable red-shift of Δλ = 10-15 nm was observed in the thin film PL spectrum. The emission intensity of the shoulder peak appeared in dilute solution was also significantly enhanced in the thin film. In contrast to the reference polymer poly{[9,9-dihexylfluorene]-alt-[9,9-di(2,4-diphenylquinoline)fluorene]}, PTHD exhibits higher HOMO energy level, and higher maximum brightness with the PLED device configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer70% + PBD30%/TPBI/LiF/Al.  相似文献

Solution‐dispersible hyperbranched conjugated polymer nanoparticles (FT‐HBCPNs) consist of an intrinsic crosslinked rigid skeleton structure of both 9,9‐dihexyl‐fluorene and triphenylamine repeating units, and are synthesized via the miniemulsion Suzuki polymerization, and FT‐HBCPNs for highly selective and sensitive Fe3+ fluorescent detection and their application in logic gate at molecular level are successfully developed. FT‐HBCPNs with an average particle size of 10.6 nm can disperse in common organic solvents. FT‐HBCPNs show high selectivity and sensitivity for Fe3+ over other commonly co‐existent metal ions in THF solution with a detection limit of 3.65 × 10?8 mol L?1. Furthermore, homogeneous transparent thin films of FT‐HBCPNs developed by a simple spin‐coating method can be reversibly quenched by Fe3+ with a detection limit of 3.09 × 10?7 mol L?1. Using Fe3+ and EDTA as chemical inputs and the fluorescence intensity signal as outputs, FT‐HBCPNs films can be utilized as a logic gate at molecular level. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A series of conjugated hyperbranched polymers, hyperbranched copolymers, and linear polymers containing 2‐pyran‐4‐ylidenemalononitrile (acceptor) and triphenylamine/fluorene (donor) units were synthesized and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, thermogravimetric analyses, differential scanning calorimetry, gel permeation chromatography, UV–visible, photoluminescence, and cyclic voltammetry measurements. All the polymers show red‐light emission in the range of 566–656 nm both in solution and in solid state. The quantum efficiency of the polymers was in the range of 56–82%. Among the six polymers synthesized, only polymers containing fluorene units show Tg and polymers based on triphenylamine not exhibit Tg. The band gap of these polymers were found to be reasonably low; hyperbranched copolymer containing fluorene unit shows lowest band gap of 2.18 eV due to the stabilization of LUMO energy level by the electron withdrawing ? CN groups. The thermal and solubility behavior of the polymers were found to be good. All the EL spectra of the devices (indium‐tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)/polymer/2,9‐dimethyl‐4,7‐diphenyl‐1,10‐phenanthroline/tris(8‐hydroxyquinoline)aluminum)/LiF/Al) show red‐light emission, and the device fabricated with P3 and P4 shows maximum luminance and luminous efficiency of 4104 cd m?2 and 0.55 cd Å?1 and 3696 cd m?2 and 0.47 cd Å?1, respectively, indicates that they had the best carrier balance. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel, fluorene‐based conjugated copolymers, poly[(9,9‐bis{propenyl}‐9H‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9‐dihexyl‐9H‐fluorene)] ( P1 ), poly[(9,9‐bis{carboxymethylsulfonyl‐propyl}fluorenyl‐2,7‐diyl)‐co‐(9,9‐dihexyl‐9H‐fluorene)] ( P2 ) and poly[(9,9‐dihexylfluorene)‐co‐alt‐(9,9‐bis‐(6‐azidohexyl)fluorene)] ( P3 ), are synthesized by Suzuki coupling reactions and their electrochemical properties, in the form of films, are investigated using cyclic voltammetry. The results reveal that the polymer films exhibit electrochromic properties with a pseudo‐reversible redox behavior; transparent in the neutral state and dark violet in the oxidized state. Among the three polymers, P2 possesses the shortest response time and the highest coloration efficiency value. These polymers emit blue light with a band gap value of around 2.9 eV and have high fluorescent quantum yields. Their metal ion sensory abilities are also investigated by titrating them with a number of different transition metal ions; all of these polymers exhibit a higher selectivity toward Fe3+ ions than the other ions tested with Stern–Volmer constants of 4.41 × 106M?1, 3.28 × 107M?1, 1.25 × 106M?1, and 6.56 × 106M?1 for P1 , P2 , water soluble version of P2 ( P2S ) and P3 , respectively. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three new poly(fluorenevinylene) derivatives were synthesized, characterized, and used as emissive materials in light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). They were synthesized by Heck coupling of 9,9‐dihexyl‐2,7‐divinylfluorene with 2,7‐dibromo‐9,9‐dihexylfluorene, 2,3‐bis(4‐bromophenyl)quinoxaline, or 2,5‐bis(4‐bromophenyl)‐3,4‐diphenylthiophene to afford the polymers F , Q , and T , respectively. Polymers F and Q had medium number–average molecular weights (Mn ? 14,000) with relatively narrow polydispersity (1.3–1.6), while T was obtained as an oligomer (Mn ? 4000). All polymers were soluble in common organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF), chloroform, dichloromethane, and toluene. They emitted blue‐greenish fluorescence light in dilute THF solution (444–491 nm), with photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields of 0.32–0.54, and in thin film (453–488 nm). LEDs with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT‐PSS/Polymer/Li:Al were fabricated and evaluated. The electroluminescence (EL) spectra of the Q and F polymers were very broad covering the blue–green–red region, whereas the spectrum of the polymer T was almost purely blue. The threshold electrical field for light emission of the devices was almost the same (?1.75 MV/cm). The external quantum efficiency of the devices of polymers Q and F was about 1.0 × 10?3%, whereas that of polymer T was ?3.0 × 10?5%. The fluorescence lifetime of polymers F and Q was significantly longer than that of the polymer T . © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 4494–4507, 2006  相似文献

Two model polymers, containing fluorene as an electron‐donating moiety and benzothiadiazole (BT) as an electron‐accepting moiety, have been synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction. Both polymers are composed of the same chemical composition, but the BT acceptor can be either at a side‐chain (i.e., S‐polymer) or along the polymer main chain (i.e., M‐polymer). Their optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties, together with the field‐effect transistor (FET) characteristics, have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The FET carrier mobilities were estimated to be 5.20 × 10?5 and 3.12 × 10?4 cm2 V?1 s?1 for the S‐polymer and M‐polymer, respectively. Furthermore, polymeric solar cells (PSCs) with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/S‐polymer or M‐polymer:PC71BM(1:4)/Al structure were constructed and demonstrated to show a power conversion efficiency of 0.82 and 1.24% for the S‐polymer and M‐polymer, respectively. The observed superior device performances for the M‐polymer in both FET and PSCs are attributable to its relatively low band‐gap and close molecular packing for efficient solar light harvesting and charge transport. This study provides important insights into the design of ideal structure–property relationships for conjugate polymers in FETs and PSCs. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New amorphous semiconducting copolymers, poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorene)‐alt‐(3‐dodecylthienyl‐divinylbenzene‐3‐dodecylthienyl) derivatives (PEFTVB and POFTVB), were designed, synthesized, and characterized. The structure of copolymers was confirmed by H NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. The copolymers showed very good solubility in organic solvents and high thermal stability with high Tg of 178–185 °C. The weight average molecular weight was found to be 107,900 with polydispersity of 3.14 for PEFTVB and 76,700 with that of 3.31 for POFTVB. UV–vis absorption studies showed the maximum absorption at 428 nm (in solution) and 435 nm (in film) for PEFTVB and at 430 nm (in solution) and 436 nm (in film) for POFTVB. Photoluminescence studies showed the emission at 498 nm (in solution) and 557 nm (in film) for PEFTVB and at 498 nm (in solution) and 536 nm (in film) for POFTVB. The solution‐processed thin‐film transistors showed the carrier mobility of 2 × 10?4 cm2 V?1 s?1 for PEFTVB‐based devices and 2 × 10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1 for POFTVB‐based devices. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new phenothiazine‐based donor–acceptor copolymers, P1 and P2, were synthesized via a Suzuki coupling reaction. The weight‐averaged molecular weights (Mw) of P1 and P2 were found to be 16,700 and 16,100, with polydispersity indices of 1.74 and 1.39, respectively. The UV–visible absorption spectra of the polymer thin films contained three strong absorption bands in the ranges 318–320 nm, 430–436 nm, and 527–568 nm. The absorption peaks at 320 and 430 nm originated mainly from the phenothiazine‐based monomer units, and the longer wavelength absorption band at 527–568 nm was attributed to the increased effective conjugation length of the polymer backbones. Solution‐processed field‐effect transistors fabricated with these polymers exhibited p‐type organic thin film transistor characteristics. The field‐effect mobilities of P1 and P2 were measured to be 1.0 × 10?4 and 7.5 × 10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively, with on/off ratios in the order of 104 for all polymers. A photovoltaic device in which a P2/PC71BM (1/3) blend film was used as the active layer exhibited an open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.70 V, a short‐circuit current (JSC) of 6.79 mA cm(2, a fill factor of 0.39, and a power conversion efficiency of 1.86% under AM 1.5 G (100 mW cm?2) illumination. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly((2‐Alkylbenzo[1,2,3]triazole‐4,7‐diyl)vinylene)s (pBTzVs) synthesized by Stille coupling show different absorption spectra, solid‐state morphology, and photovoltaic performance, depending on straight‐chain versus branched‐chain (pBTzV12 and pBTzV20) pendant substitution. Periodic boundary condition density functional computations show limited alkyl pendant effects on isolated chain electronic properties; however, pendants could influence polymer backbone conjugative planarity and polymer solid film packing. The polymers are electronically ambipolar, with best performance by pBTzV12 with hole and electron transport mobilities of 4.86 × 10?6 and 1.96 × 10?6 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively. pBTzV12 gives a smooth film morphology, whereas pBTzV20 gives a very different fibrillar morphology. For ITO/PEDOT:PSS/(1:1 w/w polymer:PC71BM)/LiF/Al devices, pBTzV12 gives power conversion efficiency (PCE) up to 2.87%, and pBTzV20 gives up to PCE = 1.40%; both have open‐circuit voltages of VOC = 0.6–0.7 V. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel organic–inorganic hybrid polyfluorene derivatives, poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐[2,5‐bis(octyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} (PFDOPPOSS) and poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐bithiophene} (PFT2POSS), were synthesized by the Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki reaction of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) appended fluorene, dioctyl phenylene, and bithiophene moieties. The synthesized polymers were characterized with 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) studies showed that the incorporation of the POSS pendant into the polyfluorene derivatives significantly enhanced the fluorescence quantum yields of the polymer films, likely via a reduction in the degree of interchain interaction as well as keto formation. Additionally, the blue‐light‐emitting polyfluorene derivative PFDOPPOSS showed high thermal color stability in PL. Moreover, single‐layer light‐emitting diode devices of an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/polymer/Ca/Al configuration fabricated with PFDOPPOSS and PFT2POSS showed much improved brightness, maximum luminescence intensity, and quantum efficiency in comparison with devices fabricated with the corresponding pristine polymers PFDOP and PFT2. In particular, the maximum external quantum efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.13%, which was twice that of PFT2 (0.06%), and the maximum current efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.38 cd/A, which again was twice that of PFT2 (0.19 cd/A). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of soluble conjugated copolymers derived from 9,9‐dioctylfluorene (FO) and selenophene (SeH) was synthesized by a palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction with various feed ratios of SeH to FO less than or equal to 50%. The efficient energy transfer from fluorene segments to narrow band‐gap selenophene sites was observed. In comparison with the very well studied copolymer poly(fluorene‐co‐thiophene), poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐co‐selenophene) (PFO‐SeH) shows redshifted photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) emission. PL spectra of the PFO‐SeH copolymers show a significant redshift along with increasing selenophene content in the copolymers and also with increasing polymer concentration in solution. PL quantum efficiency of the selenophene‐containing PFO copolymer is much lower than that of corresponding PFO‐thiophene (Th) copolymers. All these features of PFO‐SeH copolymers can be explained by the difference in aromaticity of selenophene and thiophene heterocycles and the heavy atom effect of Se in comparison with S‐atoms. The device fabricated with PFO‐SeH15 as the emissive layer exhibited high external quantum efficiency (0.51%) at a luminance of 1570 cd/m2. Device performance is limited by electron injection and the strong quenching effect of Se atoms. Devices with PFO‐SeH copolymers blended into PFO homopolymers show significant improvement in device performance. External quantum efficiency as high as 1.7% can be obtained for PFO‐SeH30/PFO blend devices. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 823–836, 2005  相似文献

Poly{2,6‐bis(3‐dodecylthiophen‐2‐yl) benzo[1,2‐b;4,5‐b′]dithiophene} (PTBT) was synthesized, via oxidative polymerization by oxidative agent (FeCl3). The mole ratio of FeCl3 and monomer (3.5:1), and keeping low temperature during the dropping of diluted catalyst were very important for the polymerization without crosslinking. The PTBT was confirmed by 1H NMR, FTIR spectra, and elemental analysis. The PTBT has very good solubility in organic solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, etc, and good thermal stability with Tg of 164 °C. The PTBT shows UV‐optical absorption at 406 nm and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy at 504 nm in a film. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy of the polymer is ?5.71 eV by measuring cyclic voltammetry (CV). A solution‐processed polymer thin film transistor device shows a mobility of 3 × 10?5 – 8 × 10?5 cm2 V?1 s?1, and an on/off current ratio of 104. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple synthetic route was used for the synthesis of a novel series of alternating copolymers based on substituted 2,7‐distyrylfluorene bridged through alkylene chains. First, 2,7‐dibromofluorene was reacted with 2 equiv of butyllithium, and this was followed by a treatment with 1 equiv of α,ω‐dibromoalkane to yield the intermediate, poly(2,7‐dibromofluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl). ( 1 ) Heck coupling of the latter with 1‐tert‐butyl‐4‐vinylbenzene afforded the target, poly[2,7‐bis(4‐tert‐butylstyryl)fluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl] ( 2 ). The two versions of 2 ( 2a and 2b which have hexane and decane, respectively, as alkane groups) were readily soluble in common organic solvents. Their glass‐transition temperature was relatively low (52 and 87 °C). An intense blue photoluminescence emission with maxima at about 408 and 409 nm was observed in tetrahydrofuran solutions, whereas thin films exhibited an orange emission with maxima at 569 and 588 nm. Very large redshifts of the photoluminescence maxima and Stokes shifts in thin films indicated strong aggregation in the solid state. Both polymers oxidized and reduced irreversibly. Single‐layer light‐emitting diodes with hole‐injecting indium tin oxide and electron‐injecting aluminum electrodes were fabricated. They emitted orange light with external electroluminescence efficiencies of 0.52 and 0.36% photon/electron, as determined in light‐emitting diodes made of 2a and 2b , with alkylenes of (CH2)6 and (CH2)10, respectively. An increase in the external electroluminescence efficiency up to 1.5% was reached in light‐emitting diodes made of polymer blends consisting of 2a and poly(9,9‐dihexadecylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), which emitted blue‐white light. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel bi‐triphenylamine‐containing aromatic dibromide M3 , N,N‐bis(4‐bromophenyl)‐N′,N′‐dipheny‐l,4‐phenylenediamine, was successfully synthesized. The novel conjugated polymer P1 having number‐average molecular weight of 1.31 × 104 was prepared via Suzuki coupling from the dibromide M3 and 9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diboronic acid bis(1,3‐propanediol) ester. Polymer P1 had excellent thermal stability associated with a high glass‐transition temperature (Tg = 141 °C). The hole‐transporting and UV‐vis‐near‐infrared electrochromic properties were examined by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms of the conjugated polymer films cast onto indium‐tin oxide‐coated glass substrates exhibited two reversible oxidation redox couples at E1/2 values of 0.73 and 1.13 V versus Ag/Ag+ in acetonitrile solution. The hole mobility of the conjugated polymer P1 revealed ~10?3 cm2 V?1 s?1, which is much higher than that of other conjugated polymer systems. The observed UV‐vis‐near‐infrared absorption change in the conjugated polymer film P1 at applied potentials ranging from 0.00 to 1.23 V are fully reversible and associated with strong color changes from pale yellowish in its neutral form to green and blue in its oxidized form. Using a combination of experimental study and theoretical investigation, we proposed an oxidation mechanism based on molecular orbital theory, which explains the cyclic voltammetry experimental results well. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blue light‐emitting polyfluorenes, PPF‐FSOs and PPF‐SOFs were synthesized via introducing spiro[fluorene‐9,9′‐thioxanthene‐S,S‐dioxide] isomers (2,7‐diyl and 2′,7′‐diyl) (FSO/SOF) into the poly[9,9‐bis(4‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy) phenyl)fluorene‐2,7‐diyl] (PPF) backbone, respectively. With the increasing contents of FSO and SOF moieties, the absorption and PL spectra of PPF‐FSOs show slight red shift, while that of PPF‐SOFs exhibit blue shift, respectively. The HOMO and LUMO levels reduce gradually with increasing SOF unit in PPF‐SOFs. The polymers emit blue light peaked around 430–445 nm and show an excellent spectral stability with the variation in current densities. The distinctly narrowing EL spectra were observed with the incorporation of isomers in the polymers. The full width at half maximum reduced by 15 nm for PPF‐SOFs, resulting in a blue shift with the CIE coordinates from (0.16, 0.11) to (0.16, 0.08). With a device configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/EML/CsF/Al, a maximum luminance efficiency (LEmax) of 2.00 cd A?1, a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 3.76% with the CIE coordinates of (0.16, 0.08) for PPF‐SOF15 and a LEmax of 1.68 cd A?1, a EQEmax of 2.38% with CIE (0.16, 0.12) for PPF‐FSO10 were obtained, respectively. The result reveals that spiro[fluorene‐9,9′‐thioxanthene‐S,S‐dioxide] isomers are promising blocks for deep‐blue light‐emitting polymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Novel series of conjugated copolymers, incorporating cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) and the biselenophene ( R‐CPDT‐Se2 ), were synthesized by Pd‐catalyzed Stille coupling polymerization. The optical, electrochemical, field‐effect carrier mobilities, and photovoltaic properties of the R‐CPDT‐Se2 were investigated and compared with cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) and the bithiophene ( EHex‐CPDT‐T2 ). The highest hole mobility of thin film transistor devices fabricated with new p‐type polymer semiconductors, Oct‐CPDT‐Se2 , was 1.3 × 10?3 cm2/Vs with an on/off ratio of about 105. The maximum power conversion efficiency of polymer solar cell fabricated with the blend of EHex‐CPDT‐Se2 /C71‐PCBM reached 1.86% with an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.55 V, a short circuit current density (Jsc) of 7.27 mA/cm2, and a fill factor (FF) of 0.47 under AM 1.5G irradiation (100 mW/cm2). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel series of poly(10‐hexyl‐phenothiazine‐S,S‐dioxide‐3,7‐diyl) and poly(9,9′‐dioctyl‐fluorene‐2,7‐diyl‐alt‐10‐hexyl‐3,7‐phenothiazine‐S,S‐dioxide) (PFPTZ‐SS) compounds were synthesized through Ni(0)‐mediated Yamamoto polymerization and Pd(II)‐catalyzed Suzuki polymerization. The synthesized polymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis and showed higher glass transition temperatures than that of pristine polyfluorene. In terms of photoluminescence (PL), the PFPTZ‐SS compounds were highly fluorescent with bright blue emissions in the solid state. Light‐emitting devices were fabricated with these polymers in an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/polymer/Ca/Al configuration. The electroluminescence (EL) of the copolymers differed from the PL characteristics: the EL device exhibited a redshifted greenish‐blue emission in contrast to the blue emission observed in the PL. Additionally, this unique phenothiazine‐S,S‐dioxide property, triggered by the introduction of an electron‐deficient SO2 unit into the electron‐rich phenothiazine, gave rise to improvements in the brightness, maximum luminescence intensity, and quantum efficiency of the EL devices fabricated with PFPTZ‐SS. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A bipolar dibromo monomer, bis‐(4‐bromophenyl)[4‐(3,5‐diphenyl‐1,2,4‐ triazole‐4‐yl)‐phenyl]amine ( 9 ), containing electro‐rich triphenylamine and electro‐deficient 1,2,4‐triazole moieties was newly synthesized and characterized. Two fluorescent fluorene‐based conjugated copolymers ( TPAF , TPABTF ) were prepared via facile Suzuki coupling from the dibromo bipolar monomer, 4,7‐dibromo‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole ( BTDZ ), and 9,9‐dioctylfluorene. They were characterized by molecular weight determination, IR, NMR, DSC, TGA, solubility, absorption and photoluminescence spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. The polymers showed good solubility in common organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and dichlorobenzene at room temperature. They had glass transition temperatures (Tg) higher than 135 °C and 5% degradation temperatures in nitrogen atmosphere were higher than 428 °C. Single layer polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLED) of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/metal showed a blue emission at 444 nm and Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) 1931 color coordinates of (0.16, 0.13) for TPAF . The device using TPABTF as emissive material showed electroluminescence at 542 nm with CIE1931 of (0.345, 0.625), low turn‐on voltage of 5 V, a maximum electroluminance of 696 cd/m2, and a peak efficiency of 2.02 cd/A. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hyperbranched organic–inorganic hybrid conjugated polymers P1 and P2 were prepared via FeCl3‐oxiditive polymerization of 4,7‐bis(3‐ethylhexyl‐2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole ( A ) and octa(3‐ethylhexyl‐2‐thienyl‐phenyl)polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) ( B ) at different POSS concentrations. Compared to linear polymer PM derived from A , P1 , and P2 exhibit much higher PL quantum efficiency (?PL‐f) in condensed state with improved thermal stability. ?PL‐f of P1 and P2 increased by 80% and 400%, and the thermal degradation temperatures of P1 and P2 are increased by 35 °C and 46 °C, respectively. Light‐emitting diodes were fabricated using P1 , P2 , and PM . While the electroluminescent spectra of both P1 and PM show λmax at 660 nm, P1 exhibits a much narrower EL spectrum and higher electroluminescence (~500%) compared with PM at a same voltage and film thickness. The maximum current efficiency of P1 is more than seven times of that of PM . The turn‐on voltages of the LEDs are in the order of P2 > PM > P1 . LED prepared by blending P1 with MEH‐PPV shows a maximum luminescence of 2.6 × 103 cd/m2 and a current efficiency of 1.40 cd/A, which are more than twice (1.1 × 103 cd/m2) and five times (0.27 cd/A) of LED of PM /MEH‐PPV blend, respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
