Reversible oxygen conversion is important for various green energy technologies. Herein we synthesize a series of bimetallic coordination polymers by varying the Ni/Co ratio and using HITP (HITP=2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene) as the ligand, to interrogate the role of metal centres in modulating the activity of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Co3HITP2 and Ni3HITP2 are compared. Unpaired 3d electrons in Co3HITP2 result in less coplanarity but more radical character. Thus, despite of a reduced crystallinity and conductivity, the best ORR activity, comparable to 20 % Pt/C, is obtained for Co3HITP2, showing the 3d orbital configuration of the metal centre promotes ORR. Experimental and DFT studies show a transition of ORR pathway from four-electron for Co3HITP2 to two-electron for Ni3HITP2. Rechargeable zinc–air batteries using Co3HITP2 as the air cathode catalyst demonstrate excellent energy efficiency and stability.  相似文献

As one kind of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), Ni3(HITP)2 has recently been demonstrated to manifest high oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance due to its unique structure and property. However, the origin of the high activity of this experimentally synthesized material remains ambiguous. Herein, we performed detailed theoretical studies on the electrocatalytic ORR of the Ni3(HITP)2 monolayer. The calculated results uncover that, in addition to the traditional NiN catalytic site, the H atoms directly bonded to the N atoms can also act as the active site for ORR, with the activity even higher than that of NiN moiety. The relative energy diagrams show that the favorable ORR pathway on all possible active sites is the two-electron reduction mechanism from O2 to H2O2, which is well consistent with the experimental observations. Furthermore, the first-principles molecular dynamics simulations show that Ni3(HITP)2 also presents excellent thermodynamic stability.

Electrocatalysts for both the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER) are vital for the performances of rechargeable metal–air batteries. Herein, we report an advanced bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst consisting of porous metallic nickel‐iron nitride (Ni3FeN) supporting ordered Fe3Pt intermetallic nanoalloy. In this hybrid catalyst, the bimetallic nitride Ni3FeN mainly contributes to the high activity for the OER while the ordered Fe3Pt nanoalloy contributes to the excellent activity for the ORR. Robust Ni3FeN‐supported Fe3Pt catalysts show superior catalytic performance to the state‐of‐the‐art ORR catalyst (Pt/C) and OER catalyst (Ir/C). The Fe3Pt/Ni3FeN bifunctional catalyst enables Zn–air batteries to achieve a long‐term cycling performance of over 480 h at 10 mA cm−2 with high efficiency. The extraordinarily high performance of the Fe3Pt/Ni3FeN bifunctional catalyst makes it a very promising air cathode in alkaline electrolyte.  相似文献

A mesoporous MnCo2O4 electrode material is made for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis. The MnCo2O4 exhibits both Co3O4‐like activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and Mn2O3‐like performance for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The potential difference between the ORR and OER of MnCo2O4 is as low as 0.83 V. By XANES and XPS investigation, the notable activity results from the preferred MnIV‐ and CoII‐rich surface. The electrode material can be obtained on large‐scale with the precise chemical control of the components at relatively low temperature. The surface state engineering may open a new avenue to optimize the electrocatalysis performance of electrode materials. The prominent bifunctional activity shows that MnCo2O4 could be used in metal–air batteries and/or other energy devices.  相似文献

Rational design of highly active and durable electrocatalysts for oxygen reactions is critical for rechargeable metal–air batteries. Herein, we report the design and development of composite electrocatalysts based on transition metal oxide nanocrystals embedded in a nitrogen‐doped, partially graphitized carbon framework. Benefiting from the unique pomegranate‐like architecture, the composite catalysts possess abundant active sites, strong synergetic coupling, enhanced electron transfer, and high efficiencies in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The Co3O4‐based composite electrocatalyst exhibited a high half‐wave potential of 0.842 V for ORR, and a low overpotential of only 450 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm?2 for OER. A single‐cell zinc–air battery was also fabricated with superior durability, holding great promise in the practical implementation of rechargeable metal–air batteries.  相似文献

Antiperovskite Co3InC0.7N0.3 nanomaterials with highly enhanced oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance were prepared by tuning nitrogen contents through a metal–organic framework (MOF)‐derived strategy. The nanomaterial surpasses all reported noble‐metal‐free antiperovskites and even most perovskites in terms of onset potential (0.957 V at J=0.1 mA cm?2) and half‐wave potential (0.854 V). The OER and zinc–air battery performance demonstrate its multifunctional oxygen catalytic activities. DFT calculation was performed and for the first time, a 4 e? dissociative ORR pathway on (200) facets of antiperovskite was revealed. Free energy studies showed that nitrogen substitution could strengthen the OH desorption as well as hydrogenation that accounts for the enhanced ORR performance. This work expands the scope for material design via tailoring the nitrogen contents for optimal reaction free energy and hence performance of the antiperovskite system.  相似文献

Herein, we highlight redox‐inert Zn2+ in spinel‐type oxide (ZnXNi1?XCo2O4) to synergistically optimize physical pore structure and increase the formation of active species on the catalyst surface. The presence of Zn2+ segregation has been identified experimentally and theoretically under oxygen‐evolving condition, the newly formed VZn?O?Co allows more suitable binding interaction between the active center Co and the oxygenated species, resulting in superior ORR performance. Moreover, a liquid flow Zn–air battery is constituted employing the structurally optimized Zn0.4Ni0.6Co2O4 nanoparticles supported on N‐doped carbon nanotube (ZNCO/NCNTs) as an efficient air cathode, which presents remarkable power density (109.1 mW cm?2), high open circuit potential (1.48 V vs. Zn), excellent durability, and high‐rate performance. This finding could elucidate the experimentally observed enhancement in the ORR activity of ZnXNi1?XCo2O4 oxides after the OER test.  相似文献

Preparing nonprecious metal catalysts with high activity in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) can promote the development of energy conversion devices. Support‐free porous Mn2O3 was synthesized by a facile aerosol‐spray‐assisted approach (ASAA) and subsequent thermal treatment, and exhibited ORR activity that is comparable to commercial Pt/C The catalyst also exhibits notably higher activity than other Mn‐based oxides, such as Mn3O4 and MnO2. The rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE) study indicates a typical 4‐electron ORR pathway on Mn2O3. Furthermore, the porous Mn2O3 demonstrates considerable stability and a good methanol tolerance in alkaline media. In light of the low cost and high earth abundance of Mn, the highly active Mn2O3 is a promising candidate to be used as a cathode material in metal–air batteries and alkaline fuel cells.  相似文献

Increasing energy demands have stimulated intense research activity on cleaner energy conversion such as regenerative fuel cells and reversible metal–air batteries. It is highly challenging but desirable to develop low‐cost bifunctional catalysts for both the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the lack of which is currently one of the major limiting components towards commercialization of these technologies. Here, we have conducted a systematic study on the OER and ORR performances of the Ruddlesden–Popper family of Lan+1NinO3n+1 (n=1, 2, 3, and ∞) in an alkaline medium for the first time. It is apparent that the Ni?O bond lengths and the hyperstoichiometric oxides in the rock‐salt layers correlate with the ORR activities, whereas the OER activities appear to be influenced by the OH? content on the surface of the compounds. In our case, the electronic configuration fails to predict the electrocatalytic activity of these compounds. This work provides guidelines to develop new electrocatalysts with improved performances.  相似文献

Nitrogen‐doped CoO (N‐CoO) nanoparticles with high electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen‐reduction reaction (ORR) were fabricated by electrochemical reduction of CoCl2 in acetonitrile solution at cathodic potentials. The initially generated, highly reactive nitrogen‐doped Co nanoparticles were readily oxidized to N‐CoO nanoparticles in air. In contrast to their N‐free counterparts (CoO or Co3O4), N‐CoO nanoparticles with a N content of about 4.6 % exhibit remarkable ORR electrocatalytic activity, stability, and immunity to methanol crossover in an alkaline medium. The Co?Nx active sites in the CoO nanoparticles are held responsible for the high ORR activity. This work opens a new path for the preparation of nitrogen‐doped transition metal oxide nanomaterials, which are promising electrocatalysts for fuel cells.  相似文献

The electroreduction of oxygen was firstly studied on Ag/Co3O4–C in alkaline media prepared by depositing Ag on Co3O4 modified carbon (Co3O4–C). The Ag/Co3O4–C composite not only displayed relatively large electrochemical active surface area (ESA), high catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), but also exhibited good methanol tolerance and stability in alkaline media. Ag/Co3O4–C could be a valuable catalyst for ORR and be applied to alkaline fuel cells and metal–air batteries.  相似文献

The utility of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as functional materials in electronic devices has been limited to date by a lack of MOFs that display high electrical conductivity. Here, we report the synthesis of a new electrically conductive 2D MOF, Cu3(HITP)2 (HITP=2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexaiminotriphenylene), which displays a bulk conductivity of 0.2 S cm?1 (pellet, two‐point‐probe). Devices synthesized by simple drop casting of Cu3(HITP)2 dispersions function as reversible chemiresistive sensors, capable of detecting sub‐ppm levels of ammonia vapor. Comparison with the isostructural 2D MOF Ni3(HITP)2 shows that the copper sites are critical for ammonia sensing, indicating that rational design/synthesis can be used to tune the functional properties of conductive MOFs.  相似文献

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is key to renewable energy technologies such as water electrolysis and metal–air batteries. However, the multiple steps associated with proton‐coupled electron transfer result in sluggish OER kinetics and catalysts are required. Here we demonstrate that a novel nitride, Ni2Mo3N, is a highly active OER catalyst that outperforms the benchmark material RuO2. Ni2Mo3N exhibits a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a nominal overpotential of 270 mV in 0.1 m KOH with outstanding catalytic cyclability and durability. Structural characterization and computational studies reveal that the excellent activity stems from the formation of a surface‐oxide‐rich activation layer (SOAL). Secondary Mo atoms on the surface act as electron pumps that stabilize oxygen‐containing species and facilitate the continuity of the reactions. This discovery will stimulate the further development of ternary nitrides with oxide surface layers as efficient OER catalysts for electrochemical energy devices.  相似文献

Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs)‐based membranes have shown great potentials as applications in gas separation. In this work, a uniform membrane based on 2D MOF Ni3(HITP)2 (HITP=2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexaaminotriphenylene) was fabricated on ordered macroporous AAO via the filtration method. To fabricate the membrane, we obtained the Ni3(HITP)2 nanosheets as building blocks via a soft‐physical exfoliation method successfully that were confirmed by AFM and TEM. We also studied the H2, CO2 and N2 adsorption isotherms of Ni3(HITP)2 powder at room temperature, which shows Ni3(HITP)2 has high heats of adsorption for CO2 and high selectivity of CO2 over N2. Gas permeation tests indicate that the Ni3(HITP)2 membrane shows high permeance and selectivity of CO2 over N2, as well as good selectivity of H2 over N2. The ideal separation factors of CO2/N2 and H2/N2 from sing‐gas permeances are 13.6 and 7.8 respectively, with CO2 permeance of 3.15×10?6 mol?m?2?s?1?Pa?1. The membrane also showed good stability, durability and reproducibility, which are of potential interest for practical applications in the CO2 separations.  相似文献

Efficient reversible oxygen electrodes for both the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are vitally important for various energy conversion devices, such as regenerative fuel cells and metal–air batteries. However, realization of such electrodes is impeded by insufficient activity and instability of electrocatalysts for both water splitting and oxygen reduction. We report highly active bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen electrodes comprising core–shell Co@Co3O4 nanoparticles embedded in CNT‐grafted N‐doped carbon‐polyhedra obtained by the pyrolysis of cobalt metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) in a reductive H2 atmosphere and subsequent controlled oxidative calcination. The catalysts afford 0.85 V reversible overvoltage in 0.1 m KOH, surpassing Pt/C, IrO2, and RuO2 and thus ranking them among one of the best non‐precious‐metal electrocatalysts for reversible oxygen electrodes.  相似文献

Exploring low‐cost and high‐performance nonprecious metal catalysts (NPMCs) for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells and metal–air batteries is crucial for the commercialization of these energy conversion and storage devices. Here we report a novel NPMC consisting of Fe3C nanoparticles encapsulated in mesoporous Fe‐N‐doped carbon nanofibers, which is synthesized by a cost‐effective method using carbonaceous nanofibers, pyrrole, and FeCl3 as precursors. The electrocatalyst exhibits outstanding ORR activity (onset potential of ?0.02 V and half‐wave potential of ?0.140 V) closely comparable to the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C catalyst in alkaline media, and good ORR activity in acidic media, which is among the highest reported activities of NPMCs.  相似文献

Electrodes for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are required in energy conversion and storage technologies. An assembly strategy involves covalently grafting Co corrole 1 onto Fe3O4 nanoarrays grown on Ti mesh. The resulted electrode shows significantly improved activity and durability for OER and ORR in neutral media as compared to Fe3O4 alone and with directly adsorbed 1 . It also displays higher atom efficiency (at least two magnitudes larger turnover frequency) than reported electrodes. Using this electrode in a neutral Zn‐air battery, a small charge–discharge voltage gap of 1.19 V, large peak power density of 90.4 mW cm?2, and high rechargeable stability for >100 h are achieved, opening a promising avenue of molecular electrocatalysis in a metal–air battery. This work shows a molecule‐engineered electrode for electrocatalysis and demonstrates their potential applications in energy conversion and storage.  相似文献

Transition metal complexes of type M(L)2(H2O)x were synthesized, where L is deprotonated Schiff base 2,4‐dihalo‐6‐(substituted thiazol‐2‐ylimino)methylphenol derived from the condensation of aminothiazole or its derivatives with 2‐hydroxy‐3‐halobenzaldehyde and M = Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ (x = 0 for Cu2+ and Zn2+; x = 2 for Co2+ and Ni2+). The synthesized Schiff bases and their metal complexes were thoroughly characterized using infrared, 1H NMR, electronic and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies, elemental analysis, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The results reveal that the bidentate ligands form complexes having octahedral geometry around Co2+ and Ni2+ metal ions while the geometry around Cu2+ and Zn2+ metal ions is four‐coordinated. The geometries of newly synthesized Schiff bases and their metal complexes were fully optimized in Gaussian 09 using 6–31 + g(d,p) basis set. Fluorescence quenching data reveal that Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes bind more strongly to bovine serum albumin in comparison to Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes. The ligands and their complexes were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 (Gram negative) and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 (Gram positive) and cytotoxicity against lever hepatocellular cell line HepG2.  相似文献

N‐doped carbon materials represent promising metal‐free electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the cathode reaction in fuel cells, metal–air batteries, and so on. A challenge for optimizing the ORR catalytic activities of these electrocatalysts is to tune their local structures and chemical compositions in a rational and controlled way that can achieve the synergistic function of each factor. Herein, we report a tandem synthetic strategy that integrates multiple contributing factors into an N‐doped carbon. With an N‐containing MOF (ZIF‐8) as the precursor, carbonization at higher temperatures leads to a higher degree of graphitization. Subsequent NH3 etching of this highly graphitic carbon enabled the introduction of a higher content of pyridine‐N sites and higher porosity. By optimizing these three factors, the resultant carbon materials displayed ORR activity that was far superior to that of carbon derived from a one‐step pyrolysis. The onset potential of 0.955 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and the half‐wave potential of 0.835 V versus RHE are among the top ranks of metal‐free ORR catalysts and are comparable to commercial Pt/C (20 wt %) catalysts. Kinetic studies revealed lower H2O2 yields, higher electron‐transfer numbers, and lower Tafel slopes for these carbon materials compared with that derived from a one‐step carbonization. These findings verify the effectiveness of this tandem synthetic strategy to enhance the ORR activity of N‐doped carbon materials.  相似文献
