Highly porous networks and reduced grain boundaries with one-dimensional (1-D) nanofibrous morphology offer enhanced charge transport in solar cells applications. Quantum dot (QDs) decorated TiO2 nanofibrous electrodes, unlike organic dye sensitizers, can yield multiple carrier generations due to the quantum confinement effect. This paper describes the first attempt to combine these two novel approaches, in which CdS (~18 nm) and CdSe (~8 nm) QDs are sensitized onto electrospun TiO2 nanofibrous (diameter ~80–100 nm) electrodes. The photovoltaic performances of single (CdS and CdSe) and coupled (CdS/CdSe) QDs-sensitized TiO2 fibrous electrodes are demonstrated in sandwich-type solar cells using polysulfide electrolyte. The observed difficulties in charge injection and lesser spectral coverage of single QDs-sensitizers are solved by coupling (CdS:CdSe) two QDs-sensitizers, resulting in a enhanced open-circuit voltage (0.64 V) with 2.69% efficiency. These results suggest the versatility of fibrous electrodes in QDs-sensitized solar cell applications.  相似文献

In this paper, we prepared TiO2@CdS core–shell nanorods films electrodes using a simple and low-cost chemical bath deposition method. The core–shell nanorods films electrodes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and UV–vis spectrometry techniques. After applying these TiO2@CdS core–shell nanorods electrodes in photovoltaic cells, we found that the photocurrent was dramatically enhanced, comparing with those of bare TiO2 nanorods and CdS films electrodes. Moreover, TiO2@CdS core–shell nanorods film electrode showed better cell performance than CdS nanoparticles deposited TiO2 nanoparticles (P25) film electrode. A photocurrent of 1.31 mA/cm2, a fill factor of 0.43, an open circuit photovoltage of 0.44 V, and a conversion efficiency of 0.8% were obtained under an illumination of 32 mW/cm2, when the CdS nanoparticles deposited on TiO2 nanorods film for about 20 min. The maximum quantum efficiency of 5.0% was obtained at an incident wavelength of 500 nm. We believe that TiO2@CdS core–shell heterostructured nanorods are excellent candidates for studying some fundamental aspects on charge separation and transfer in the fields of photovoltaic cells and photocatalysis.  相似文献

With 4.2 nm quantum-dots (QDs) as seeds on TiO2 film, a highly efficient TiO2 photoelectrode was prepared by a seed-growing process using chemical bath deposition technique, followed by a covering process with ZnS layer, and a post-sintering process at 400 °C. The assembled solar cells presented IPCE peak values of 73% and power conversion efficiency of 3.21% under AM 1.5 G irradiation.  相似文献

The present work describes the development of a new strategy to photoelectrochemical detection of L-Dopa at low potential based on oxygen reduction on TiO2 sensitized with iron phthalocyanine (FePc/TiO2). The FePc/TiO2 composite shows a photocurrent 10-fold higher than that of pure TiO2 nanoparticles and it was 4-fold higher than that of FePc exploiting visible light. The band gaps of pure TiO2 nanoparticles, FePc and FePc/TiO2, calculated according to the Kubelka–Munk equation, were 3.22 eV, 3.11 eV and 2.82 eV, respectively. The FePc/TiO2 composite showed a low charge transfer resistance in comparison to the photoelectrode modified with FePc or TiO2. Under optimized conditions, the photoelectrochemical sensor shows a linear response range from 20 up to 190 μmol L 1 with a sensitivity of 31.8 μA L mmol 1 and limit of detection of 1.5 μmol L 1 for the detection of L-Dopa.  相似文献

Ag and Au nanoparticles were found to significantly enhance the photocatalytic activity of self-organized TiO2 nanotubular structures. The catalyst systems are demonstrated to be highly efficient for the UV-light induced photocatalytic decomposition of a model organic pollutant – Acid Orange 7. The metallic nanoparticles with a diameter of ∼10 ± 2 nm (Ag) and ∼28 ± 3 nm (Au) were attached to a nanotubular TiO2 layer that consists of individual tubes of ∼100 nm of diameter, ∼2 μm in length and approx. 15 nm of wall thickness. Both metal particle catalyst systems enhance the photocatalytic decomposition significantly more on the nanotubes support than placed on a compact TiO2 surface.  相似文献

The layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly technique was applied to deposit organized multilayers of TiO2 or SiO2 nanoparticles of 30–80 nm diameter, and 50-nm diameter halloysite clay nanotubes on softwood fibers. Fluorescent and scanning electron microscopy images showed complete nanoparticle coating on these fibers. The thickness of the two-layer coating was estimated as 46, 58, and 115 nm for TiO2, SiO2, and halloysite tubules, respectively, which corresponds to ca. 1 wt% nanoparticle loading of the fibers. The brightness test of paper handsheets prepared from nanocoated fibers showed that TiO2 nanoparticle coating gave handsheet reflectance of 84% at 450 nm, which is 4% higher than the brightness of the control sample from virgin fibers. The paper handsheets prepared with nanoparticle-coated fibers had 30–50% higher porosity with tensile strength index retained close to the control sample.  相似文献

We present a ternary semiconductor nanoparticle sensitizer – AgSbS2 – for solar cells. AgSbS2 nanoparticles were grown using a two-stage successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction process. First, Ag2S nanoparticles were grown on the surface of a nanoporous TiO2 electrode. Secondly, a Sb–S film was coated on top of the Ag2S. The double-layered structure was transformed into AgSbS2 nanoparticles ~ 40 nm in diameter, after post-deposition heating at 350 °C. The AgSbS2-sensitized TiO2 electrodes were fabricated into liquid-junction solar cells. The best cell yielded a power conversion efficiency of 0.34% at 1 sun and 0.42% at 0.1 sun. The external quantum efficiency (EQE) spectrum covered the range of 380–680 nm with a maximal EQE of 10.5% at λ = 470 nm. The method can be applied to grow other systems of ternary semiconductor nanoparticles for solar absorbers.  相似文献

In this work, formation of porous TiOx layers and theirs corrosion behavior were studied. Application of H3PO4 electrolytes results in porous TiOx formation. The process is enhanced by small amount of HF content in the electrolyte. The HF results in higher current density, enhancing dissolution. Small 0.5% HF concentration results in nanopores formation, with pore diameter of about 45 nm. Increase of HF concentration up to 10% results in pores with average diameter of about 5.2 μm. An increase of etching time results in larger pore diameter, but between large 2–5 μm diameter pores smallest ones were observed with diameter below 200 nm. In the initial etching process a remnants of the flat surface are presents with initial cracks in the surface, indicating places for growth of the pores. The TiOx layers can be used as a biomaterial. The corrosion behavior of the layer investigated in Ringer’s solution, revealed an excellent corrosion resistance, with respect to pure Ti.  相似文献

Formation of CdS quantum dots (Q dots) on the vertically aligned ZnO nanorods electrode was carried out by chemical bath deposition. The diameter and thickness of ZnO nanorods are ~100–150 nm and ~1.6 μm, respectively, and CdS Q dots on ZnO nanorods have a diameter of smaller than 15 nm. In application of the Q dots-sensitized solar cells, composite film exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 0.54% under air mass 1.5 condition (80 mW/cm2), and incident-photon-to-current conversion efficiency showed 18.6%.  相似文献

TiO2–SrTiO3 heterostructure nanotube arrays have been utilized as a novel oxide substrate for CdS quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs). SrTiO3 on TiO2 surface passivates surface states of TiO2 and builds cascade-structured band alignment, which significantly reduces charge recombination at electrode surface. CdS/TiO2–SrTiO3 electrode exhibits a superior photoelectrochemical performance than CdS/TiO2 electrode with ~ 70% increase in external quantum efficiency. This study suggests that the suppression of charge recombination at electrode surface is critical to efficient solar energy conversion.  相似文献

A series of W-modified TiO2 (W–TiO2) photocatalysts were synthesized by a simple sol–gel method. The new photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–vis-diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area analyzer. The photoactivity of the W–TiO2 photocatalysts was evaluated by the photocatalytic oxidation of Congo red (CR) dye. It was found that the average size of the prepared photocatalysts is 10 nm. Moreover, they have high surface areas (∼ 216 m2 g−1) and their light-absorption extends to the visible region compared to pure TiO2. The effects of W-loading and of the calcination temperature of the prepared photocatalysts on their photocatalytic activity were also studied. The obtained results show that the W0.5–TiO2 photocatalyst calcined at 350 °C is much highly photoactive than non-doped or highly doped TiO2. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the weakly doped TiO2 may be attributed to the increase in the charge separation efficiency and the presence of surface acidity on the W0.5–TiO2 photocatalyst.  相似文献

Mesoporous TiO2?xAy (A = N, S) thin films were fabricated using thiourea as a doping resource by a combination of sol-gel and evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) processes. The results showed that thiourea could serve two functions of co-doping nitrogen and sulfur and changing the mesoporous structure of TiO2 thin films. The resultant mesoporous TiO2?xAy (A = N, S) exhibited anatase framework with a high porosity and a narrow pore distribution. The formation of the O–Ti–N and O–Ti–S bonds in the mesoporous TiO2?xAy (A = N, S) were substantiated by the XPS spectra. A new bandgap in visible light region (520 nm) corresponding to 2.38 eV could be formed by the co-doping. After being illuminated for 3 h, methyl orange could be degraded nearly completely by the co-doped sample under both ultraviolet irradiation and visible light illumination. While pure mesoporous TiO2 could only degrade 60% methyl orange under UV illumination and showed negligible photodegradation capability in the visible light range. Furthermore, the photo-induced hydrophilic activity of TiO2 film was improved by the co-doping. The mesoporous microstructure and high visible light absorption could be attributed to their good photocatalytic acitivity and hydrophilicity.  相似文献

In this study a process has been introduced to replace traditional liquid or solid electrolyte coatings on dye-sensitized photoelectrode in solar cells. This process has more efficient diffusion of electrolyte, hence higher sensitivity. Better interfacial contact between polymer electrolyte and TiO2 photoelectrode had improved electrochemical response and ionic conductivity of cell. Conductivity of this electrode was 9.33 × 10−3 S cm−1 (at room temperature), which is much higher than the using traditional process for addition of electrolytes. It has 0.68 V open-circuit voltage and 3.19 mA cm−2 short-circuit current density. Energy conversion efficiency of this cell was about 37% higher than the cell developed with traditional processes under constant light intensity (45 mW cm−2).  相似文献

Porous composite films containing cellulose nanofibrils (from sisal) and TiO2 nanoparticles (ca. 6 nm diameter) are obtained in a layer-by-layer assembly process. Each layer consists of ca. 0.18 μg cellulose nanofibrils and ca. 0.72 μg TiO2 (determined by QCMB) and adds a thickness of ca. 16 nm (by AFM) to the uniform deposit. The TiO2 nanophase is creating conducting pathways for electrons in a relatively open cellulose structure (ca. 82% open pores) potentially suitable for the immobilization of large redox proteins such as methemoglobin.Methemoglobin is shown to readily adsorb into the cellulose–TiO2 film. However, electrochemical responses for the immobilized methemoglobin in aqueous 0.1 M phosphate buffer at pH 5.5 suggest that facile demetallation occurs. Experiments with Fe3+ in the absence of protein result in voltammetric responses indistinguishable from those observed for immobilized methemoglobin. In the presence of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) the voltammetric signals for the Fe3+ immediately disappear. Complementary experiments conducted in 0.1 M acetate buffer at pH 5.5 demonstrate that methemoglobin can indeed be immobilized in electrochemically active form and without demetallation loss of the voltammetric signal in the presence of EDTA. Demetallation appears to occur (i) in the presence of phosphate, (ii) at pH 5.5, (iii) and in the presence of a charged surface.  相似文献

Transparent glasses, melt quenching derived, containing 10RO·20Bi2O3·(70 ? x)B2O3·xTiO2 [R = Ca, Sr] with x = 0, 0.5, 1.0 wt% were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction. Physical and spectroscopic properties viz., density, absorption, emission, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and FTIR were investigated. The absorption band around 823 nm in pure glass samples is attributed to the electronic transition of 3P0 to 3P2 of Bi+ radicals. A small absorption hump centered around 609 nm is found in all doped glasses due to 2T2g to 2Eg transition of octahedral Ti3+ ions. The emission results revealed that all the samples exhibit a broad emission band covering entire visible-light range, with λex = 360 nm, centered 470–520 nm corresponds to electronic transition of 3P1 to 1S0 of Bi3+ ions, therefore the present materials can be potentially used as tunable or full-color display systems. And a strong emission around 706 nm with λex = 514 nm due to transition of 2P3/2 to 2P1/2 of Bi2+ ions. In SrO mixed glasses Ti4+ ions effect the environment of Bi3+ ion symmetry units from C2 to C3i. A small EPR signal (at room temperature) is observed in titanium doped glasses due to Ti3+ ions. In both the series with increase of TiO2 concentration BO4 units are gradually converted into BO3 units and new cross linkages are formed, like B–O–Ti, Bi–O–Ti at the expense of B–O–B bonds.  相似文献

High-density CdS nanowire (NW) arrays were successfully grown on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)-coated glass substrates by vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) mechanism at a remarkably reduced temperature of ~450 °C. Bi catalyst layer and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) played a major role in the low-temperature synthesis of high-quality CdS NW arrays. CdS NWs were defect free single crystalline Wurtzite crystals and they were 50–100 nm and 2–5 μm in diameter and length, respectively. CdS NWs were combined with poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV), a conjugated polymer to form organic–inorganic hybrid structures. The UV–visible light absorption and emission behavior of MEH-PPV/CdS hybrids was investigated and their potential to be used as photovoltaic cells was demonstrated.  相似文献

We report ultraviolet (UV) light detection of thin wall TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) with open diameter ~ 20 nm obtained by a two anodization procedure. This small diameter nanotubular geometry shows significant enhancement of the photoresponsivity and results in a large increase of photocurrent. The photocurrent is one order higher than that of classical nanotubes with diameter of 140 nm at − 1.0 V bias. We attribute this improvement to the modulation of hole carrier density as a result of field effects from the diameter-dependent population of the surface-trapped electrons. This finding demonstrates inherent size effects of internal gain in semiconductor nanotubes.  相似文献

Photoanodes based on Ti/TiO2 thin films were prepared by the sol–gel method, using either tetraisopropoxide (Ti(OPri)4) or modified tetraisopropoxide, producing electrodes with different sized nanoparticle coatings, termed nanoporous (20 nm) or nanoparticulated (10 nm) electrodes. The anatase form dominated the composition of the nanoparticulated electrode, which presented a higher surface area, a flat band potential shift of ?160 mV and a 50% improvement in photoactivity, compared to the nanoporous electrode. 100% color removal, and 75% mineralization, of indigo carmine dye were achieved after 15 min of photoelectrocatalytic treatment using a nanoparticulated Ti/TiO2 electrode operated at a current density of 0.4 mA cm?2. Our findings indicate that the use of nanoparticulated electrodes, under UV irradiation and with controlled current density, is an efficient alternative for the removal of food dye contaminants during wastewater treatment.  相似文献

Cu and N-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized from titanium (IV) isopropoxide via a microwave-assisted sol-gel method. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-vis diffuse reflectance, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, photocurrent measurement technique, and nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms. Raman spectra and XRD showed an anatase phase structure. The SEM and TEM images revealed the formation of an almost spheroid mono disperse TiO2 with particle sizes in the range of 9-17 nm. Analysis of N2 isotherm measurements showed that all investigated TiO2 samples have mesoporous structures with high surface areas. The optical absorption edge for the doped TiO2 was significantly shifted to the visible light region. The photocurrent and photocatalytic activity of pure and doped TiO2 were evaluated with the degradation of methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB) solution under both UV and visible light illumination. The doped TiO2 nanoparticles exhibit higher catalytic activity under each of visible light and UV irradiation in contrast to pure TiO2. The photocatalytic activity and photocurrent ability of TiO2 have been enhanced by doping of the titania in the following order: (Cu, N) - codoped TiO2 > N-doped TiO2 > Cu-doped TiO2 > TiO2. COD result for (Cu, N)-codoped TiO2 reveals ∼92% mineralization of the MO dye on six h of visible light irradiation.  相似文献

We present a new photosensitizer – Ag2S quantum dots (QDs) – for solar cells. The QDs were grown by the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction deposition method. The assembled Ag2S-QD solar cells yield a best power conversion efficiency of 1.70% and a short-circuit current of 1.54 mA/cm2 under 10.8% sun. The solar cells have a maximal external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 50% at λ = 530 nm and an average EQE of ~ 42% over the spectral range of 400–1000 nm. The effective photovoltaic range covers the visible and near-infrared spectral regions and is ~ 2–4 times broader than that of the cadmium chalcogenide systems — CdS and CdSe. The results show that Ag2S QDs can be used as a highly efficient and broadband sensitizer for solar cells.  相似文献
